Position Summary

The Associate Medical Director is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Associate Medical Director assumes responsibility for the medical component of the assigned Interdisciplinary Team. S/he does not replace the patient's primary physician but serves in a consultative, supportive role. S/he functions as a liaison between the medical community and Compassus. The Associate Medical Director provides support to both corporate and program staff, intercedes with attending physicians and facilities, and provides community and physician education and development.


Position Specific Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the medical component of the assigned Interdisciplinary (IDT).

• Develops proficiency in Clinical Services activities including, but not limited to, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, corporate policies, provider contracts, and quality improvement.

• Makes determination regarding admission to hospice while considering the primary, terminal condition, related diagnosis(es), current subjective and objective medical findings, current medication and treatment orders, and information about the medical management of any of the patient’s conditions unrelated to the terminal illness.

• Provides written certification and composes narrative statement of eligibility (after determination of appropriateness) that it is anticipated that the patient’s life expectancy is six months or less if the illness runs its normal course.

• Provides medical guidance and expertise in decisions regarding patient care.

• Attends and participates in weekly IDT meetings.

• Reviews clinical information and composes narrative statement of eligibility before the recertification period for each patient, and participates in recertification at appropriate intervals as specified by law.

• Meets the general medical needs of the patients to the extent that these needs are not met by the attending physician.

• Consults with the interdisciplinary team during a crisis situation when primary physician cannot be reached.

• Makes home visits to hospice patients if needed.

• Functions as liaison between the medical community and the hospice.

• Offers insight from the medical community to the hospice staff.

• Consults with patient’s primary physician regarding appropriateness of specific treatments and procedures.

• Assists with physician and facility communication and public relations.

• Actively collaborates regarding the QAPI activities of the agency.

• Develops recommendations for resolution for the PIP resulting in agency intervention.

• Inputs into policy/procedure formulation.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience

  • Ph.D. Medical Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine required.
  • Hospice and/or palliative care experience required.


Skills

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. We are seeking a Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) to support Medicare Risk Adjustment initiatives through detailed HCC medical record reviews and direct provider engagement. This position requires onsite presence Tuesday–Thursday in Des Moines, IA with 10% local travel, and remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

Position Overview


This role performs concurrent medical record reviews to ensure accurate capture of HCC conditions and appropriate documentation reflecting patient severity of illness. The coder will collaborate closely with physicians, clinical leadership, and provider engagement teams to improve documentation practices and support compliance with CMS guidelines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of medical records for accurate HCC diagnosis capture
  • Validate diagnosis codes within Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) alerts
  • Identify missed or unsupported diagnoses and initiate provider queries
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, ICD-10-CM, and Risk Adjustment guidelines
  • Interact directly with physicians to improve documentation quality
  • Analyze findings and present documentation improvement opportunities

4. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

We offer regional, local, dedicated, and OTR routes. As a driver, you will transport important goods and materials such as glass, steel, aluminum, building materials, machinery, coils, and specialty metals. FINANCIAL PACKAGEWeekly Pay:  Full-time drivers on this fleet can make $899.14 - $2,034.78 per week
Annual Pay:  Full-time drivers on this fleet can make $46,748.00 - $105,768.00 per year
**Depending on experience, routes, regular attendance, and length of service.

Full pay package also includes other accessorial compensation to include tarp pay, stop pay, detention pay, border crossing pay, safety bonuses, and over-dimensional pay as appropriate.
Including both mileage pay and all other accessorial pay, full-time drivers on this fleet can make $899.14 - $2,034.78 per week ($46,748.00 - $105,768.00 per year) depending on experience, routes, regular attendance, and length of service

Flatbed Driver Rates: $0.48 - $0.84 per mile, depending on experience.

Changing jobs is never easy - that’s why our transition package invests in you. We offer a $1,800 Transition Package; $1000 of which is allotted for orientation for your first 2 weeks so you can focus on driving while we take care of the rest.

PET POLICY + GUEST RIDER POLICY
System Transport does not allow pets.
However, System Transport allows riders aged 7 and up after 90 days of safe driving.

HIRING QUALIFICATIONS:
  1.  Required:  Must have a valid Class A CDL
  2.  Required:  Must be 21 years of age or older
  3.  Required:  4+ months of driving experience required
  4.  Required:  A safe driving record on the road.
  5.  Required:  No more than 6 jobs in the last 3 years
  6.  Prefer 1-year truck driving experience, but not necessary
  7.  Required:  A Background Check is required
  8.  Required:  A Clean Drug Test is required
  9.  Required:  A Clean Clearinghouse result required
  10.  Required:  For all flatbed driver opportunities, the driver must be physically able to lift a 90-pound tarp onto a 5-foot high platform twice. System Transport will test this during orientation, and flatbed drivers tarp about 70% of our loads. (this is required)
