POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership and supervision to all technical staff that work in the Inpatient (not IV Sterile Admixture), decentralized areas. Assures that all requirements to meet JCAHO, OSHA and Texas State Board of Pharmacy are met with regard to inpatient drug distribution. Responsible for hiring, firing, training, evaluating and retaining technical staff in the Inpatient area. Assists the designated Manager of Support Services in all matters related to drug distribution and decentralized activities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school/GED required or equivalent experience is required. Some coursework at the college level is preferred. Five years of experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician is required. Four or more years of experience as a Chief or Lead Technician in a contemporary hospital pharmacy is preferred. May substitute required experience as Registered Pharmacy Technician with additional years of management experience.
LICENSURE
Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration required. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is recommended.
POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares pharmacy prior authorization requests for review by nurse/pharmacist/physician reviewers. Completes pharmacy authorization requests and issues review outcome notifications to Community First Health Plans (CFHP) members and providers. Follows clinical criteria and instructions to approve prior authorization requests based on established criteria, plan policies and procedures. Performs non-medical research including eligibility verification and benefits verification. Reviews medication utilization reports and identifies trends through advanced data analytics. Produces reports to comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school/GED required. Bachelorβs degree preferred. Five years of pharmacy experience required. Some coursework at the college level is preferred. Excellent customer service, phone etiquette, attention to detail, and typing skills is required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet required. Experience in health insurance/pharmacy insurance or managed care organization preferred. Prior authorization processing experience desired. Experience in a PBM or managed care call center desired. Knowledge of InterQual screening criteria as well as DRG, ICD-10 and CPT coding is preferred.

Medication Distribution
* Single Dispense - must prepare medications and/or IV for dispensing, select correct medication, correct strength, and correct form. Fill, label, and initial medication bag for a pharmacist verification.
* Bulk Dispense- Must fill multiple patient specific medications in accordance with department procedure.
* Transportation- bulk fill, first dose, and missing doses will be delivered securely to the appropriate units, while practicing appropriate procedure to ensure confidentiality for all patients.
* Missing Doses- upon request, must properly generate label, fill and have checked by a pharmacist, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
* Product Preparation- must properly prepare, measure, count, medications including compound ointments, creams, oral solutions, oral solids, IV, etc.

* User- must be capable of accurately adding new users to the ADC system.

Must complete an aseptic technique competency to show compliance with USP standards, conducted by supervisor or Lead Pharmacy Technician.
* Small volume- Demonstrate knowledge of preparing small volume admixtures
