The Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visual Evolution: Design graphics and visual elements for our consumer mobile application while pushing the boundaries of an existing design system.

This role will serve as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all program elements (systems engineering/software/support/test) and lead a multi-disciplined team managing the technical performance of the program meeting cost and schedule requirements including subcontracted elements.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Ownership of the technical baseline and oversees technical activities across multiple contracts within the SiAW Program

  • Maintain cognizance over technical activities within and across contracts for requirements development, hardware/software design, integration, and verification/validation activities.

  • Provides technical leadership, direction and mentoring to other technical employees in the application of systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical end results.

  • Chair technical meetings such as requirements reviews, design reviews, and readiness reviews.​

  • Facilitate technical support, review, and approval of engineering documents and drawings.

  • Support program reviews as an engineering review authority, and assist in resolution of program engineering challenges (technical, financial, and staffing)

  • Drive process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives

  • Ensures that the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, test, and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

  • Support assessment of cost and schedule impacts of technical decisions

  • Be the technical liaison to the program manager to ensure successful execution to project budgets and schedules.

  • Support the program manager in risk and opportunity management by identifying and owning risks associated with system performance.

  • Interface with functional departments to secure team staffing

  • Work with suppliers and be able to articulate project requirements.

  • Brief internal and customer leadership on progress of work assigned.

  • Act as customer interface for all technical and execution matters related to SiAW Program activity.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Staff Chief Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM-related discipline with 14 years of experience, or 12 years with a master’s degree and 10 years of experience with a Ph.D.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgments with limited information.

  • Well-versed, skilled, and disciplined in system engineering processes

  • Experience leading design, production, and integration of complex systems

  • Background in aerospace systems; working knowledge of aircraft systems, missile systems, avionics, software systems, and their design drivers.

  • Candidate must have good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and good oral and written presentation skills.

  • *Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)

The Director develop sshort-, mid-, and long-term quality strategies, builds and mentors a high-performing team, and collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain to align quality objectives with business goals and foster a culture of accountability and improvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

  • Champion and enforce adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards across all operations. Actively lead by example to embed a safety-first mindset throughout the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and minimizing workplace risks.
  • Maintain a disciplined, organized (6S) environment to support safety and quality excellence. Drive initiatives that promote cleanliness, orderliness, and efficiency, reducing hazards and creating a foundation for consistent, high-quality output.

QUALITY SYSTEM LEADERSHIP

  • Develop, implement, and sustain robust Quality Management Systems across three North American sites. Ensure systems are aligned with industry standards and customer requirements, enabling uniform practices and continuous compliance.
  • Lead internal and supplier audit programs, ensuring timely corrective actions and preventive measures. Oversee audit planning, execution, and follow-up to identify gaps, mitigate risks, and strengthen supplier partnerships.

PERFORMANCE & METRICS

  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators such as Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), first-pass yield, and customer satisfaction.Use data-driven insights to identify trends, prioritize improvement areas, and enhance overall operational performance.
  • Provide regular KPI reporting and apply advanced statistical methods to drive quality improvements. Translate complex data into actionable strategies that support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING

  • Lead root-cause analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Apply structured problem-solving techniques to eliminate recurring issues and optimize processes.
  • Implement documented process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and standardization.

Collaborate with cross-functional teamsto streamline workflows, reduce variability, andimprove productivity.


TALENT DEVELOPMENT

  • Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing quality team with a focus on succession planning and leadership development. Create an environment that fosters growth, accountability, and engagement.
  • Partner with HR to manage recruitment, training, and performance development initiatives. Ensure the team has the skills and resources needed to meet evolving business and customer requirements.

STRATEGIC COLLABORATION

  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Sales to align quality objectives with overall business goals. Act as a strategic partner to integrat equality into every stage of the value chain.
  • Communicate proactively and foster strong cross-functional partnerships to drive organizational success.

Promote transparency and team work to accelerate problem resolution and achieve shared objectives.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Work Experience Required:

  • 10+ years of quality leadership experience in manufacturing, with multi-site responsibility.
  • Proven success applying Lean, Six Sigma, and formal problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and quality software; advanced MS Office skills.

Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.

Technical skills

  • Experience flying custom built quadcopter, running ArduPilot.
  • Experience, finding the right components and building custom QuadCopters, FPV drones or similar RC vehicles
  • Experience piloting drone manually without GPS-assisted modes like altitude-hold and stabilize mode.
  • Experience debugging ArduPilot and/or PX4 issues on the field
  • Part 107 Holder
  • Familiar with ardupilot's EKF-3 Estimation code.
  • Knowledge of vision-based navigation systems
  • Comfortable with Python, C++ and linux.
