The EmPATH Peer Recovery Support Specialist
Job Purpose/Summary
- EmPATH will provide non-hospital facility-based services that render short-term treatment to facilitate access to services and stabilization to prevent ED and acute psychiatric hospitalization admissions.
- EmPATH will provide these services to individuals who present to the program or are transferred from area EDs.
- Initial admission will be on a voluntary status to adults (18 years and older) who are presenting with a mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders that are experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
Summary of role of team:
- The EmPATH Peer Support Specialist serves as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing education, rehabilitation, and support for individuals.
- The Peer Support Specialist position is intended to provide hope for clients by having a support person who is or has been a primary consumer of mental health or addiction services and is willing to share their experiences and story with mental illness, treatment, and recovery; to be a role model for clients who are currently in crisis.
Typical Working Conditions/ Environment
- Working conditions consist of a 16-lounger bed unit.
- Hours of operation are 24/7.
- The role of the Peer Support Specialist is to ensure coverage is provided 24/7 despite any weather conditions or holidays that arise.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Daily Staff Duties
- Participates in crisis planning.
- Offers 1:1 counseling/ Recovery Coaching as requested by individuals or treatment team.
- Responds to all flags, emails, and voicemails within 2 business days.
- Completes Staff Daily Duties assigned by supervisor before the end of each shift.
- Follow Daily Schedule to give clients an effective daily structure for optimum progress.
2. Complete all documentation in compliance with CARF and Center standards.
- Completes group logs, progress notes, and other requested documentation as well as on time.
3. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Must be punctual and maintain good attendance record.
- Must stay awake and alert on all shifts.
- Maintaining a strong line of communication with all staff to effectively and safely provides assistance to the people we serve.
- Demonstrates willingness to promote a harmonious work environment by maintaining a positive and professional working relationship with all staff members and supervisors.
- Communicates and approaches conflict in a problem solving and professional manner with all staff members and supervisors.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and F-endorsement.
COMPENSATION:
- Starting salary for this position is approximately $17.40/hr based on relevant experience and education.
Schedule:

QUALIFICATIONS - EmPATH Peer Recovery Support Specialist
Experience:
- Experience in working with special populations including individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, Co-occurring Disorders, and Dual Diagnosis is preferred.
- Computer experience is helpful.
- Experience working in a crisis setting/Recovery response center is preferred.
- Regular attendance is an essential job function.
- Must be able to tell your story and engage in recovery coaching with individuals as well as assisting clients in developing transition plans.
Education / Knowledge:
- Must have experience as behavioral health services consumer and/or lived recovery experience.
- A bachelor's degree in a health-related field of counseling, psychology, social work, or three years' experience working with individuals with mental illness, special populations with co-occurring and dual diagnoses preferred.
- Must have coursework and/or experience in the areas of cultural diversity, human development, etiology and treatment of mental illness, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, suicide, and crisis intervention.
Physical/Emotional/Social - Skills/Abilities:
- Possible exposure to biological hazards.

Recovery Coach
Recovery Coaches (RCs) are individuals currently in recovery who have lived experience with substance use and/or co-occurring mental health challenges and have been trained to help individuals with a similar experience to gain hope, explore their own recovery pathway, and achieve their life goals.
The RC will be a part of a multidisciplinary team including a recovery support navigator, medical staff, clinicians, and prescribers in the CBHC. Additionally, the RC will potentially need to coordinate with external providers for cohesive care to ensure the persons goals are met. The RC will provide education to persons engaged in services but may also utilize their own recovery experience and knowledge with the entire treatment team.
The RC will also be responsible for:
- Provide care in individual and group formats
- Maintain knowledge base of Medication Assisted Treatments (MATs), recovery pathways, common mental health diagnoses, and self-help supports, such as: AA, NA, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, Moderation Management, and Dual Recovery Anonymous supports
- Educate Persons engaged in services and treatment team about the individual's recovery values and recovery
- Support the person served in creating and enacting their Recovery Wellness Plan.
Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours
- while this role is predominantly in-person, there are opportunities for some hybrid work
- Weekend work is not required, but highly monetarily incentivized

Recovery Coach - Connect2Recovery
The primary responsibility of a recovery coach is to support the voices and choices of the people they help, removing obstacles to recovery, linking Members to a recovery community, and serve as a personal guide and mentor. The recovery coach will work with the individual to develop a Wellness Plan that orients the activities of the recovery coach's service.
The recovery coach will be a part of a larger team of other recovery coaches and case managers but will also be an active interdisciplinary member of the Outpatient Centerβs track of specialty clinicians, supervisors, and prescribers who serve people with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. The recovery coach will provide education to persons engaged in services but may also utilize their own recovery experience and knowledge with the entire treatment team.

Recovery Support Coordinator - CBHC
Recovery Support Coordinators are an integral member of the CBHC multidisciplinary team, providing case and care management and system navigation supports to individuals with substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders. The purpose of these services is to partner with individuals in accessing treatment services, community resources, and recovery-supported peer/social supports (job, education, health, and dental care, etc.). In addition, the RSC will partner with the person and recovery team in identifying and working through system barriers to recovery.
In this vital role, the RSC will:
- Plans and provides supportive, safe activities of varying type and functional level in response to identified needs of the individual
- Assists the individual in becoming engaged with treatment services, 12-step/peer services, and community supports through supportive outreach meetings
- Provides information about, and facilitate access to, community and recovery supports, including supports for families.
- Maintains confidentiality of clinical records and privileged consumer information in conformity with state and federal law and regulations.
Schedule: Full Time, 40 hours
- Hybrid position with opportunity for 1 to 2 remote days a week
- One weekend shift - 9am to 5pm and One weekday evening shift until 8pm required

Essential Functions

As a PACU Registered Nurse, you will play a critical role in the immediate post-operative care of surgical patients. The Opportunity
Within defined guidelines and framework, provides specialized Auto claims service in the recovery of payments made to USAA members by legally pursuing through arbitration a third party that caused an insurance loss to the insured. The Subrogation Specialist may also defend through arbitration claims by other insurance carriers against USAA.
What you'll do:
Conduct claim investigations for moderate to high complexity cases in arbitration by analyzing the facts surrounding a loss to reach a recovery conclusion, including recorded statements, securing public records and analyzing report findings.
Apply advanced knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services and processes to include P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, common law, contract law, state statutes, evidence and damages, and arbitration program rules.
Generate contentions that accurately illustrate the facts of loss to effectuate maximum indemnity recovery or defense based on thorough analysis of claim and applicable program rules in Automobile, Medical Pay, or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims. Recognizes and documents subrogation, SIU, and salvage opportunities, and refer accordingly.
Reimburse policyholder's deductible after recovery is made.
Serve as an arbitrator who reviews contentions and evidence submitted by multiple carriers and renders decisions that appropriately cite program rules, statutory language, and other considerations to articulate the rationale for the decision reached.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.
2 years claims adjusting experience.
Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and designated number of attempts.
Ability to pass required exams to serve as a panelist in arbitrations for Automobile, Medical Pay, or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claims within 90 days (which requires 3 years claims adjusting experience).
Advanced knowledge of common law, contract and negligence laws.
Ability to confidently resolve issues and negotiate fair settlements.
Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

The OpportunityΒ
- Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing the Vituity HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program.
- This role encompasses liaison activities between Administration, the Surgical Staff, the Medical Staff, performance measurement, protocol development, research, and quality improvement activities for the procurement of donor Heart and Lung grafts for thoracic transplantation.
- Responsible for the recovery of donor Heart and Lung grafts for the Heart and Lung Transplant Program in keeping with the policies, rules, and regulations of Vituity-contracted Hospital Systems, clients, and its medical and surgical staff.
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable State, Federal, and local laws, policies, and regulations.
- Aid in compliance with International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, (ISHLT), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), and Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), surveys, and laboratory data collection.
- Help in preparation for federal, state, or JCAHO inspections.
- Collaborate with physicians and Thoracic Transplant Program team members to promote the concepts and practice of Quality Assurance by linking improvement activities, education, and information.
- Facilitate appropriate financial and operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate with hospital to ensure adequate training of nursing staff and clinical transplant coordinators in the care of donor thoracic transplant patients.
- Ensure that tissue typing and organ procurement services are available.
- Ensure that heart and lung transplant procurement is performed by, or under direct supervision of, a qualified surgeon.
- Participate in hospital and Medical Staff committees dealing with thoracic transplant donor issues.
- Follow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions and attend applicable safety education sessions.
- Review operations, policies and procedures, and staff education and training, including a disaster preparedness plan.
Required Experience and Competencies
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required.
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States required.
- Providers who graduated from a Thoracic training program before 1990 and has at least seven (7) yearsβ experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery will be considered.
- Providers who are newly graduated within the time specified by the American Board of Medical Specialists and Medical Staff by-laws will be considered.
- Maintain appropriate current professional knowledge in the care of Thoracic Transplant patients by obtaining at least 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years and an additional training of one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation required.
- A minimum of two years documented experience with a transplant program that meets the qualification for UNOS membership required.
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative patient care responsibility for an optimum of 20 and minimum of 10 heart transplants for adults required.
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative patient care responsibility for an optimum of 20 and minimum of 10 lung transplants in a UNOS approved transplant program required.
- Cumulative experience of at least 20 thoracic transplants over more than two years required.
- Maintain current knowledge in the care of thoracic transplant patients by obtaining a minimum of 12 CMEβs in thoracic transplantation AND/OR Thoracic surgery every three years required.
- Additional training of one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation OR a minimum of two yearsβ documented experience with a thoracic transplant program that meets the qualification for UNOS membership preferred.

The OpportunityΒ
- Responsible for supporting, organizing, conducting, and directing the Vituity HEART Thoracic Donor Organ Transplant Recovery Program.
- This role encompasses liaison activities between Administration, the Surgical Staff, the Medical Staff, performance measurement, protocol development, research, and quality improvement activities for the procurement of donor Heart and Lung grafts for thoracic transplantation.
- Responsible for the recovery of donor Heart and Lung grafts for the Heart and Lung Transplant Program in keeping with the policies, rules, and regulations of Vituity-contracted Hospital Systems, clients, and its medical and surgical staff.
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable State, Federal, and local laws, policies, and regulations.
- Aid in compliance with International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, (ISHLT), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), and Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), surveys, and laboratory data collection.
- Help in preparation for federal, state, or JCAHO inspections.
- Collaborate with physicians and Thoracic Transplant Program team members to promote the concepts and practice of Quality Assurance by linking improvement activities, education, and information.
- Facilitate appropriate financial and operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate with hospital to ensure adequate training of nursing staff and clinical transplant coordinators in the care of donor thoracic transplant patients.
- Ensure that tissue typing and organ procurement services are available.
- Ensure that heart and lung transplant procurement is performed by, or under direct supervision of, a qualified surgeon.
- Participate in hospital and Medical Staff committees dealing with thoracic transplant donor issues.
- Follow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions and attend applicable safety education sessions.
- Review operations, policies and procedures, and staff education and training, including a disaster preparedness plan.

Required Experience and Competencies
- Board Certified/Eligible Thoracic Surgery physicians required.
- Valid license to practice medicine in one of the contiguous United States required.
- Providers who graduated from a Thoracic training program before 1990 and has at least seven (7) yearsβ experience in Thoracic Transplant Surgery will be considered.
- Providers who are newly graduated within the time specified by the American Board of Medical Specialists and Medical Staff by-laws will be considered.
- Maintain appropriate current professional knowledge in the care of Thoracic Transplant patients by obtaining at least 12 CMEs in Thoracic OR Surgery every three years and an additional training of one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation required.
- A minimum of two years documented experience with a transplant program that meets the qualification for UNOS membership required.
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative patient care responsibility for an optimum of 20 and minimum of 10 heart transplants for adults required.
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative patient care responsibility for an optimum of 20 and minimum of 10 lung transplants in a UNOS approved transplant program required.
- Cumulative experience of at least 20 thoracic transplants over more than two years required.
- Maintain current knowledge in the care of thoracic transplant patients by obtaining a minimum of 12 CMEβs in thoracic transplantation AND/OR Thoracic surgery every three years required.
- Additional training of one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation OR a minimum of two yearsβ documented experience with a thoracic transplant program that meets the qualification for UNOS membership preferred.
- Experience in pre-operative and post-operative patient care responsibility for at least 10 thoracic transplant recipients in a UNOS-qualified program OR cumulative experience of at least 20 thoracic transplants over more than two years preferred.
- Maintain current knowledge in the care of thoracic transplant patients by obtaining a minimum of 12 CMEβs in thoracic transplantation AND/OR thoracic surgery every three years preferred.

The OpportunityΒ

- Additional training of one year formalized training in thoracic transplantation OR a minimum of two yearsβ documented experience with a thoracic transplant program that meets the qualification for UNOS membership preferred.
