Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer to join our team in one of the listed locations.

We are seeking Systems Engineers with Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering principles in modern software environments, with strong understanding of DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native architectures. Candidates should be comfortable working across disciplines to integrate hardware, software, and mission systems in secure environments, collaborating closely with developers and test engineers to validate end-to-end functionality. Experience with containerized applications, automated build and test processes, and infrastructure as code is essential to ensuring system performance, security, and mission assurance. The integration and test team will lead system-level integration, verification, and acceptance test activities to ensure software systems meet performance, reliability, and interoperability requirements in an operational environment.

Position Responsibilities

• Review, develop, document, and maintain system requirements and traceability across the lifecycle.
• Define test strategies, plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for component, integration, and system-level testing.
• Design and execute verification & validation activities (functional, interface, performance, reliability, regression).
• Analyze test results, perform root cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines, working closely with software developers, system architects, and test engineers to validate end-to-end functionality and mission effectiveness.
• Lead integration of hardware, software, and mission systems in secure DoD environments, ensuring interoperability, performance, and mission assurance.
• Apply modern DevSecOps practices—including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerized deployments, and infrastructure as code—to streamline integration and test activities.
• Stand up, configure, and maintain secure test environments leveraging cloud-native and virtualized resources (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-premise equivalents).
• Use model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and requirements management tools to support design, analysis, and traceability.
• Contribute to risk, issue, and opportunity management; assess and report technical readiness and critical path impacts.
• Drive continuous improvement of integration and test processes, incorporating automation, metrics, and lessons learned to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Document integration results and test findings for design reviews, readiness assessments, and formal customer deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers; at higher levels, provide technical leadership across projects and broader mentoring responsibilities.

Travel may be required up to 20% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• 14+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience

• Strong systems thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Practical experience with requirements decomposition, requirements tracing and configuration management.
• Experience writing test plans and procedures and executing system-level integration and verification.
• Familiar with standard engineering tools such as requirements management (DOORS or similar), MBSE (MSOSA/Cameo or similar), test management, and common collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, Git).
• Proficient with one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Matlab) for test automation and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Systems Engineering or related field.
• Experience with mission systems, avionics, command & control architectures, embedded systems, sensor systems, or related defense/space programs.
• Prior work on software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, flight test, or distributed system integration.
• Knowledge of certification and compliance frameworks relevant to the program (FAA, DoD, NASA, etc.).
• Experience with cloud, container, and CI/CD test infrastructure (Docker/Kubernetes, AWS).
• Experience with performance and reliability testing, and statistical test methods (DOE).

Responsibilities

In your role as Sr. Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer, you will assist in the design and installation of modified flight control systems, throughout the development of a remotely operated autoflight system. You will ensure the proper build-up of functions and capabilities, beginning in the lab and ending on the vehicle. You will be expected to verify the end-to-end functionality of the system and ensure the ability to assess all desired test requirements. This will require engaging with many teams throughout the organization and having a firm understanding of the vehicle's capabilities. As a Sr. Hardware Test Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a critical part of the Hardware Test team. This is a small team of broadly experienced engineers that strive to ensure that all hardware being produced meets the stringent requirements for aviation. You will be one of the essential interfaces between the design, production, and flight test teams and will be exposed to a wide variety of technical challenges.

You will be architecting automated test stands to replicate extreme flight conditions on our hardware and mechanisms that will serve as the backbone of our qualification testing. You will help to break our development hardware, help root-cause the failure modes, and provide critical input in redesigning it. You will be writing the software and building the hardware platforms for the command, control and data collection systems that will test our systems to rigorous aerospace standards. As a Sr. Harness Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Vehicle Design and Integration team and will report to the Vehicle Design and Integration Engineering Manager. This team is a small group of highly motivated engineers designing, integrating, testing, and flying advanced mechanical and electrical systems. The harness engineer is a very cross-functional role at the convergence of the avionics, mechanical, integration, and production teams, with significant hands-on work designing, building, integrating, and testing our harnesses, enclosures, and mounting hardware; expect to broaden your design and application experience. This position can be filled locally or hybrid with frequent travel to our facility in Mountain View, California.

Responsibilities

In your role as Sr. Harness Engineer you will work with the avionics, mechanical, and integration teams to define the harness architecture, including routing, bulkhead planning, and manufacturing and integration processes. You'll be responsible for the detailed design of both flight and test harnesses, and you'll be working with the production technicians and A&Ps to get the harnesses built and installed on the aircraft. Compensation Range: $180K - $260K

The Sr Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the technical development, oversight and improvement of manufacturing processes within the area of responsibility. This individual will lead process optimization, technical problem-solving, and cross-functional manufacturing initiatives. This role is accountable for achieving senior-level competence Plans and presents engineering program and product design reviews for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications. Develops and requests design and specification change releases. Assesses and communicates impact of engineering initiatives to functional groups. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced technical depth, measurable impact on production performance, and the ability to mentor mid-level and entry-level engineers while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders. This role is classified as Exempt for FLSA purposes and reports to the Engineering Manager.

Pay Range: $110,00.00 to $137,000.00 per year. Final compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.

Essential Responsibilities

• 
  
• Develop, release, and maintain detailed technical work instructions for the manufacture and repair of aerospace metallic structures and assemblies, ensuring full compliance with customer(s) engineering definition and regulatory requirements.
  
• Partner with CNC Programming group to develop and implement manufacturing plan for complex metallic machined components/assemblies.
  
• Provide advanced technical support to Quality and Operations teams to achieve site-level Safety, Cost, Quality, and Delivery (SCQD) objectives; act as a primary escalation point for complex manufacturing issues.
  
• Partner with Purchasing and Sales during the quoting process to define manufacturing approach, assess technical risk, establish labor standards, and ensure cost competitiveness.
  
• Establish and validate operational standard hours using time studies and process analysis; drive accuracy in routing and capacity planning assumptions.
  
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and model-based definitions to ensure manufacturability; translate design requirements into controlled shop-floor documentation.
  
• Train and mentor operators and junior engineers on manufacturing methods, process controls, and quality standards; elevate overall technical capability of the team.
  
• Lead productivity and cost-reduction initiatives through Lean principles, waste elimination, and process optimization; quantify and report measurable performance improvements.
  
• Develop, validate, and industrialize manufacturing processes for new product introduction (NPI), ensuring processes meet defined capability, repeatability, and quality targets prior to production release.
  
• Evaluate nonconforming components and determine repair feasibility; develop and validate repair schemes in coordination with Engineering and Quality functions
  

The individual is required to be a supportive member of Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) and Quality System policies to provide a safe work place and eliminate conditions and behaviors which may cause work related illnesses and/or injuries while delivering quality product and services on time.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or relevant technical discipline, or HS Diploma/GED w/equivalent composite/aerospace manufacturing/repair experience. 5+ years of technical experience with composites and/or aerospace components production or repair.

Desired Characteristics

• Demonstrated experience creating, structuring, and maintaining complex multi-level Bills of Material (BOMs) for aerospace assemblies, ensuring configuration control and production readiness.
• Proven experience in the developing and implementing machining strategies of large-scale metallic aerospace structures, including fixturing for both Milling and Turning.
• Hands-on experience machining large metallic aerospace components, including process planning, tooling strategy, and dimensional validation.
• Strong proficiency in engineering drawing interpretation, including advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) application and tolerance analysis.
• Working knowledge of CAD systems such as CATIA, SolidWorks, NX; ability to interrogate models to support manufacturability and tooling design decisions.
• Experience designing and validating manufacturing tooling for, including production fixtures, machining/holding fixtures and assembly aids.
• Demonstrated change management capability, including leading engineering change implementation across cross-functional teams; ability to manage risk, stakeholder alignment, and execution discipline.
• Strategic thinker capable of translating high-level engineering change initiatives into structured, tactical execution plans; analytical, data-driven, and results-oriented.
• Strong background in continuous improvement methodologies including Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and ACE; proven record of measurable operational improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence across organizational levels; demonstrated ability to build engagement and sustain a culture of operational excellence
• Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) required.
