Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing project team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and coordination of electrical systems for building and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and local building codes.
This role requires strong experience in electrical design for commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects, along with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support projects through design and construction phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical design drawings and layouts including power distribution, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, grounding, and communication systems using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
- Perform electrical load calculations, short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and coordination studies.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and Massachusetts local building codes.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical engineering teams to integrate electrical systems into overall building design.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.S. or equivalent).
- 7-8 years of experience in electrical design for construction, commercial buildings, infrastructure, or industrial projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for electrical design and documentation.
- Experience with electrical analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or similar tools.

Main Responsibilities
- Technical Services and Emergency Support
- Provide guidance and support for equipment installation, electrical system commissioning, and final acceptance testing at major project sites.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related fields
- Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical design/after-sales electrical technical support for commercial/central air conditioning systems, including at least 3 years in an electrical technical expert or team lead role.

Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to plant electrician staff primarily focused on the installation and repair of electrical controls, automation, motors & starters, lighting, and power distribution on 110V-220V-480V-13,800V systems.
- Manage and expand the application of Predictive Maintenance technologies across the plant to drive improved plant reliability.
- Provide direct supervision to approximately 15 skilled crafts with varying trade skills.

Compensation and Benefits
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $73,400 - $122,850.

Department Information
The Campus Engineering team exists to provide support to all aspects of design, construction, operation, and maintenance of campus facilities. Campus facilities include not only the buildings which are occupied by our students, faculty and staff, but it also includes central campus utility plants and the associated utility systems, including chilled water, steam, power, and natural gas
During the design process, first, our Team creates and maintains the design standards for building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, power distribution, and lighting. These standards are used by us, and by our outside consultants, to guide the design efforts of new buildings and renovation projects. Our team is also responsible for reviewing the design documents created by the consultants to ensure that their designs comply with standards.
During construction projects, our Team is often called upon to provide advice related to unforeseen conditions which are discovered during demolition work. We often provide a second review of material and equipment submittals, as well as shop drawings. On most campus construction projects, the day-to-day interaction with the contractor is managed by our co-workers within one of the Construction teams. However, on a few projects we may be called on to manage those day-to-day contractor activities.
Post construction, and throughout the life of the facilities, our team serves to provide advice to our Operation & Maintenance teams, and our Utilities Maintenance team, when a problem grows larger than their capacity. We also plan and prepare the way for projects to replace equipment as it nears the end of life. We are always looking ahead for opportunities to increase efficiency and resiliency in the systems.

Job Description:
The Sr Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and testing electrical designs for specialized equipment. This position has comprehensive knowledge of equipment, business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solutions and participates in all phases of product development lifecycle, including the analysis, design and equipment construction, and installation support of designed equipment and confers with other engineering staff for programming and site startup support.
This is an on-site position in the Cincinnati, Ohio, Blue Ash area.
Responsibilities
- Designs and conducts research to evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications.
- Assists field engineers with installation of designed systems and verifies proper build of designed systems.
- Develops electrical products that conform to standards and customer requirements, researches and tests manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
- Prepares technical drawings and specifications for electrical control panels.
- Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components.
- Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational, safety, or environmental standards.
- Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Resolves required changes, and support solution to complete designed equipment during installation.
- Maintains product database by writing computer programs.

Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 – 8 years previous professional electrical engineering experience
- Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
- Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
