THE CONTEXT

PEMBs are a highly technical product that requires a level of engineering effort to generate an accurate proposal to secure project awards in a highly competitive market. In the past, we have relied on our production engineering team to support our sales efforts. With our recent, and expected future, growth, we are now looking to bring this engineering expertise directly into the sales team.

 We are looking for an experienced metal building engineer that enjoys solving difficult design problems (we don’t build boxes, check out our project gallery on our website) using the best tools available in the industry, all in a collaborative, challenging, and team-based sales process. This role reports directly to the CEO of the company, who is also the Sales Leader, and will be a key partner in enabling the continued growth and success of our business. THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Metal Building Engineer to serve as THE technical resource on our sales team. In this role, you will use your knowledge of metal building system design, with tools like Metal Building Software (MBS), RISA 3D, Enercalc and others, to develop accurate estimates, preliminary designs, and cost-effective solutions for pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB), steel structures, and related systems. You will create preliminary material takeoffs (using our internally-developed automated tools) and Excel summaries as part of a broader estimating effort (Hint: this is a team role and is very collaborative). Additionally, you will support our outside sales and business development activities with the generation of building concepts, schematic designs, and general technical guidance. Success in this role is defined as owning and delivering the technical aspects of our overall sales process.

(NOTE: This is a true engineering role, not a sales role. This role will not have to carry a sales quota.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare accurate and competitive metal building preliminary designs, and material takeoffs using industry-standard software (e.g., Metal Building Software (MBS), Tekla Structures, RISA 3D, Enercalc, CFS, Bluebeam Revu, and Excel)
• Perform preliminary structural design and layout of pre-engineered metal building systems, including complex framing, hybrid structures, and conventional steel buildings
• Ensure all estimates and designs comply with current building codes, local regulations, wind/seismic loads, and company engineering standards
• Collaborate closely with MBI outside sales executives, customers, architects, engineers, and contractors to understand project requirements, provide technical recommendations, and offer value-engineering suggestions to optimize cost, performance, and constructability
• Serve as the technical subject matter expert during customer meetings, presentations, and site visits; explain product features, structural capabilities, material options, and system benefits clearly and persuasively
• Support the full sales cycle: respond to RFQs/RFPs, conduct technical discovery, deliver product demonstrations, prepare proposals, and assist in negotiations to close deals
• Review and interpret architectural/engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop tailored solutions
• Provide post-sale technical support to facilitate handing off the project to our operations teams for execution
• Stay current on industry trends, new products, building codes, and competitive offerings; contribute competitive intelligence to the team
• Collaborate with MBI’s Director of Engineering on internal best practices to improve the design, performance and efficiency of our tools and processes related to design and engineering tasks

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, with experience in the Structural discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification; SE is NOT required for this position
• 7+ years of engineering experience with 3+ years in metal building design
• Proficiency in metal building design software (MBS) required
• Familiarity with 3D tools such as Revit, Tekla, or SketchUp required
• Solid understanding of structural steel design principles, building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC), load calculations, and metal building components/systems

Being an on-call employee means that your work schedule is not guaranteed, hours worked could range from 0 - 40 hours a week, depending on office needs. All hours worked are subject to Department of Retirement Services and Affordable Care Act reporting requirements. • Inspect buildings and structures to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations relating to building construction, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, state energy code requirements, local zoning requirements, and job site erosion control.
• Investigate compliance complaints and, if necessary, mediate a resolution.

• Conducts site inspections of new and old commercial and residential buildings and structures to ensure compliance with approved plans and codes, notes violations. Approved plans will be reviewed, are posted on the construction site, and are reviewed by the inspector to see that they are properly implemented. Reinspects to ensure all noted violations have been corrected. The incumbent has the authority to stop work on a construction site if code violations are not corrected and makes the final approval of a structure prior to occupancy.
• Plans and schedules routes in order to ensure the most efficient use of time.
• Answers questions and provides technical advice related to building and structure code compliance.
• Investigates and responds to complaints regarding code compliance; informs individual making the complaint if a violation occurred and, if so, what corrective action has been taken.
• Logs daily inspections and prepares inspection reports.
• Reads special inspection reports for compliance and files reports.
• Inspects sites for grading and soil excavation or other land modifications. Makes a visual survey of the construction site to determine if a licensed survey is to be required for setback verification.
• Responds to public and contractor inquiries concerning interpretation of the National Electrical and related codes, construction problems, and City administrative procedures. This requires clear, concise, oral and written communication skills.
• Monitors construction to see that it is completed before occupancy of the building, the permit expires, or sees that the permit is renewed in a timely fashion.
• Maintains adequate records to assure proper documentation of inspections.
• Inspects nonstructural problems with building sites, such as surface water problems and inadequate access, and assures that they are corrected or referred to the appropriate City department.
• Position requires daily use of computer. Incumbent must have, or be able to learn, basic keyboard and computer skills.
• Performs daily inspections of vehicles to include checking tires and lights and determining if service is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Experience: 3 years of construction or inspection experience.
• Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

• Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to remain insurable under the City's insurance to operate motor vehicles.
• Possess and maintain ICC Residential Building Inspector (B1) certification within 1 year.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
The position is driving to or being at construction sites a majority of the time. Potential hazards at construction sites might include falling objects, loose footing, and construction equipment. The position may be required to climb ladders, occasionally walk on scaffolding, crawl in crawl spaces, and be exposed to inclement weather and adverse conditions. The incumbent is expected to perform as an emergency worker in the event of a disaster.
Positions in this class typically involve indoor and outdoor work in extreme variable temperature and atmospheric conditions. Duties may require extended periods of talking or listening, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, feeling, and seeing. Incumbents may be subjected to being around moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, odors, gasses, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
Work typically includes exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 35 pounds of force more frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Position Summary:

The Building Engineer is responsible for performing or directing the performance of all service maintenance requests for a specific property or portfolio of properties.

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure that work performed in client space is accomplished with a minimum of disruption and is followed by adequate cleanup.
• Overseeing the accurate and timely completion of client maintenance service requests.
• Reviewing monthly client service request summaries to pinpoint and correct recurrent operational problems.

• Monitoring the allocation of building system capability to various base building and tenant needs, specifically UPS/Generator and cooling system capacities.
• Devising technical enhancements which will improve aspects of building operation.
• Identifying equipment, which may require replacement or reconditioning resulting in the need for client’s capital.
• Perform emergency or preventative maintenance repairs off hours as directed on nights and weekends as needed.
• Provide on-call support as required

Education and Experience Requested:

• HS Diploma with minimum 3 + years field experience with trade school training or 5 + years total field experience
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Good computer skills, proficient in MS Office programs.
• Highly proficient in the use of email and CMMS systems
• Superior customer service skills and orientation. Collaborative style needed. Ability to maintain professionalism at all times under stressful situations

Position Summary:

We are seeking a "hands-on" Project Consultant to join our growing team. This role involves a mix of office work and field reviews for new construction and existing building rehabilitation projects. You will contribute operational and technical expertise to projects, ensuring high-quality building enclosure performance and client satisfaction.

We are also considering candidates for a Senior Project Consultant position for those with previous experience in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform on-site inspections and field reviews during construction to verify correct installation of building enclosure systems.
• Conduct field investigations, including moisture intrusion and performance testing.
• Prepare detailed site visit reports documenting observations, field-testing results, and recommendations for deficiency items.
• Collaborate with senior staff, architects, contractors, and owners on building enclosure design, materials selection, and project progress.
• Review architectural plans, construction documents, and shop drawings for conformance with project intent and building science principles.

Qualifications and Skills:

Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience, knowledge of commercial roofing or exterior building enclosures, the ability to perform on-site field work, and effective communication skills. A degree in a related field and relevant professional certifications are desirable.

NOVA Engineering is currently seeking afully-certified Commercial Building Code Inspector in Panama City Beach FL. Primary duties will include performing building code inspections and/or plans review (building / structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing – as licensed) on residential and commercial buildings, as well as managing specific projects related to these types of code inspections. Some travel may be required for inspections and/or managing projects in the assigned area. The inspector positions are predominately located in the field but may occasionally include office assignments.

Essential Functions:

• Building Code Review and/or Quality Control Inspections on commercial construction projects (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing)
• Prepare written and electronic reports, and issue notices of correction
• Explain and interpret code and/or quality control regulations or requirements
• Recognize, evaluate and properly resolve unique problems or situations
• Maintain effective customer service relationship with clients and the public
• Assist the inspection management team with business development
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications:

• Required state of Florida commercial building inspection license (BN#) in two or more of the following disciplines: Building (Structural), Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing.
• 3+ years’ experience performing plan review and/or inspections
