HVAC/Plumbing Engineer
Experience Required: 3–5 Years Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 (Commensurate with experience)
About the Organization
Founded in 2013, our organization is a full-service engineering firm specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Fire Alarm systems. We pride ourselves on being a high-growth, agile organization with a "zero-bureaucracy" philosophy. Our team is close-knit, friendly, and dedicated to maintaining a peaceful, collaborative work environment. We offer a wide range of services, including energy recovery systems, radiant flooring, complex site and sewer connections, and detailed construction administration.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and independent HVAC/Plumbing Engineer to join our growing team. Unlike roles at larger firms where you may act as an assistant, this position requires an engineer with "hands-on" experience capable of designing systems independently. You will manage projects across multiple disciplines internally while serving as the primary point of coordination for architects, contractors, and local city agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Design: Independently design HVAC and Plumbing systems using AutoCAD, ensuring all designs meet project specifications and applicable energy conservation codes.
- Project Management: Handle multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing the project lifecycle from initial design through to construction administration.
- Internal Coordination: Lead coordination between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines within the firm.
- External Liaison: Coordinate directly with external stakeholders, including architects and contractors, and navigate approval processes with relevant city agencies.
- Construction Administration: Manage RFIs, submittals, amendments, as-builts, and conduct field visits and punch lists.
Requirements
- Professional Experience: 3–5 years of professional MEP design experience.
- Regional Expertise: A minimum of 1 year of experience specifically on projects based in our major metropolitan area is required.
- Technical Mastery: Must be highly proficient in AutoCAD and able to design HVAC systems independently rather than as an assistant to a lead engineer.
- Code Knowledge: Strong familiarity with local energy conservation codes and building regulations.
- Multidisciplinary Skills: While HVAC and Plumbing are the core focus, additional experience in Sprinkler or Electrical systems is a significant plus.
- Soft Skills: We are looking for professionals who are easy to work with, friendly, and thrive in a supportive, close-knit team environment.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary Structure: $70,000 – $85,000 base. Higher compensation is available for candidates with broader multi-discipline design experience and additional years of tenure.
- Vacation: Generous vacation days and closure on all major holidays.
- Future Growth: We are a growing company and are actively working toward implementing a group medical plan in the near future.
- Environment: A supportive, low-bureaucracy office where your contributions are highly visible and valued.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or related Engineering
• 6–8+ years in a regulated industrial environment:
o Power plants, steam plants, utilities, industrial energy systems, or nuclear
• Strong ability to:
o Read electrical schematics/drawings
o Solve complex engineering problems independently
o Review design documents and evaluate technical options
o Communicate technical decisions clearly
- Experience leading multiple projects and communicate effectively with stakeholders
Nice to Have Skills & Experience:
• Experience in steam plants, district energy, or power generation
• P.E. license (or progress toward one)
• Experience with system upgrades, equipment replacement projects, or vendor design review
• Experience presenting to regulators or senior leadership
• Nuclear industry experience (valued for regulatory discipline, not required)
Job Description:
The Senior Engineer is the technical authority for steam plant systems. They evaluate equipment issues, make engineering decisions, support capital projects, and ensure safe, reliable, compliant plant operation. This role requires someone who can independently analyze technical problems and clearly justify recommendations.
This is a regulated industrial engineering role, not a technician role. Candidates must have strong engineering judgment, experience with large industrial systems, and the ability to work across Operations, Maintenance, and Project Management.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Ownership
• Serve as the technical decision maker for plant systems and equipment
• Evaluate failures, recommend repair/replace/modify solutions
• Review engineering analyses, vendor drawings, specifications, and bid packages
• Provide engineering direction for capital projects and system upgrades
System Support
• Apply mechanical/electrical engineering skills to boilers, turbines, pumps, and high pressure steam systems
• Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
Cross Functional Work
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, PMs, and contractors
• Support troubleshooting, outages, inspections, and system modifications
• Communicate technical recommendations clearly to mixed audiences
Regulatory & Documentation
• Support audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions
• Maintain engineering documentation and technical justifications
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect millions of entrepreneurs with millions of buyers around the world. As an Etsy Inc. employee, whether a team member of Etsy or Depop, you will tackle unique, meaningful, and large-scale problems alongside passionate coworkers, all the while making a rewarding impact and keeping commerce human.
Salary Range: $252,000.00 - $328,000.00
What's the role? We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Models team. In this role, you will manage a team of motivated ICs to build the next generation of Etsy's models platform, which in turn will enable your customer teams to improve the quality of search, ads, recommendations, and other ML applications for nearly 100M buyers and over 5M sellers. Do you have a passion for training, serving and scaling machine learning models? Are you excited by the challenges of building a platform for diverse machine learning use cases? Are you motivated to lead and develop ICs at different stages of their careers? If so, this could be the perfect match. This opportunity is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering for ML Enablement. This position will be in Brooklyn, NY or for remote candidates based in the United States.
What's this team like at Etsy? The Machine Learning Enablement Initiative builds and maintains a complete ecosystem of ML systems including our feature & embeddings store, model training, serving, orchestration and testing infrastructure. The Models team is responsible for the model catalog, APIs, and serving infrastructure that runs our online models at high scale (millions of inferences per second). It is a small team historically focused on operations, but transitioning to play a more direct role in the application layer. The team is presently leading Etsy's migration from Tensorflow to Pytorch, building upon an innovative architecture designed in-house and based on KServe, NVIDIA Triton, Apache Arrow, and Ray. We are using this opportunity to fill in historical gaps in automation, integration, and standardization across the ML platform. We aspire to unify modeling approaches across all major ML development teams at Etsy. This is a big, challenging opportunity to influence how models are created, trained, and deployed across the entire company!
What does the day-to-day look like? Meet with customers to understand their latest use cases. Work with your team and partners to translate those use cases into concrete requirements. Offer an informed point of view on engineering, system design, and machine learning considerations. Keep track of ongoing issues (stability, performance, cost) with models on the platform, and identify short-term fixes and long-term platform improvements. Maintain a product roadmap, lead agile processes and plan workstreams for a team of 4 ICs. Occasionally lead multi-functional \"tiger teams\" for dedicated projects. Coach your ICs and support their career development trajectories. Own and maintain the team's customer-facing surfaces: documentation, code examples, metrics, dashboards, UIs, launch announcements, etc. We are proud of our engineering culture that encourages career growth and learning in a blameless environment. You can learn more about our philosophies, tools, and some of the challenges we've been solving on our Engineering blog. Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualities that will help you thrive are: A strong track record of developing and serving machine learning models at scale, with at least 4 years in a leadership capacity (tech lead or EM) and 2 years as an engineering manager. You like to be deep in the technical work, but you can also build partnerships across teams in a highly collaborative environment. Passion for building platforms that don't just work, but that are easy to maintain and extend, and are delightful to use. You are a strong collaborator, communicator, and coach and you are passionate about helping the engineers around you grow and learn. You have 5+ years of experience building, iterating and solving complex problems with a significant backend component. Background and hands-on experience with Cloud technologies (Google Cloud, AWS, Kubernetes) is a plus.
Additional Information If you're interested in joining the team at Etsy, please share your resume with us and feel free to include a cover letter if you'd like. At Etsy, we believe that a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace furthers relevance, resilience, and longevity. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law. If, due to a disability, you need an accommodation during any part of the application or interview process, please let your recruiter know. While Etsy supports visa sponsorship, sponsorship opportunities may be limited to certain roles and skills.
