β’ Calculate quantity take-offs from bid package drawings and specifications for work disciplines pursuant to company methods.
β’ Inquire and research issues developed pre-bid to vendors, clients and other team members.
β’ Provide and apply technical expertise, innovative solutions, productivity analysis, and review similar historical data for a complete project cost estimate.
β’ Evaluate project risk elements for respective estimate adjustments.
β’ Collaborate with estimating team, vendors and clients to determine the safest, most productive and best quality work approaches.
β’ Solicit vendors and subcontractors for bids, while also maintaining communication throughout estimating period with addenda and scope of work coordination.
β’ Prepare preliminary construction schedules, including analysis of material and equipment lead times.
β’ Prepare, coordinate, and lead bid review meetings.
β’ Research and review potential projects, attend pre-bid meetings and collaborate with management team.
β’ Perform additional assignments as required per managementβs direction, typically preconstruction duties.
Skills and Requirements: β’ Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar preferred.
β’ Minimum 7-10 yearsβ experience estimating in the construction industry with knowledge of structural concrete, pipe and mechanical systems.
β’ Experience in water and wastewater treatment facilities, storm water and freshwater pump stations, water storage facilities, and other water resource/recovery projects favorably preferred.
β’ Knowledge and understanding of unit costs and factors affecting such costs.
β’ Ability to quickly evaluate and confirm subcontractor proposals.
β’ Knowledge and experience in alternative delivery methods of contracting.
β’ Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software.
β’ Effective computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office suite, HCSS, Primavera P6, and Bluebeam.
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
β’ Strong technical writing skills.
β’ Ability to prioritize and manage time in order to meet tight bid and proposal deadlines.
β’ Leadership abilities to pursue large and complex project estimates.
