Job Description 

Under provider direction, the RN provides skilled nursing care to patients in a variety of clinical settings. The Accommodation Nurse Case Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the medical aspects of employee accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and have a current Registered Nurse license with the state of Connecticut.

Clinical Supervisor- Hospice

In general, most of the time will be spent in the following activities:

Accountable for team performance in achieving desired clinical and operational performance measures

Assures that clinical and functional outcomes are achieved at the highest level possible

Resolves patient care problems collaboratively with internal/external customers – collaborates with peers across the regions

Oversees the daily patient assignments for clinical staff based on client needs and staff competency to maintain team productivity standards; LEAN Daily Management process (Visual Boards)

Coordinates referrals and ensures timeliness of SOCs and timeliness of adjunct service delivery

Responsible for monitoring and responding to the overall health needs of students in the Clinical Day School. Responsibilities include performing initial student assessments (safety status, physical and/or emotional complaints, hygiene, etc.), monitoring self-administration of medications (prescribed or otherwise), maintaining state-required student health assessment records, prioritizing daily telephone calls regarding student’s health issues and/or medications, and observing, documenting and reporting medication issues/concerns to the appropriate MD or prescribing doctor.  This position requires a holistic approach to adolescent health and a working knowledge of health issues (medical and psychiatric) pertaining to the adolescent population. 



Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Denial Specialist is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and appealing denials related to DRG (Diagnostic Related Group) downgrades. This role involves validating the coding and clinical accuracy, ensuring proper documentation and collaborating with other departments to address payer concerns. Key responsibilities include timely investigation of DRG downgrades, submitting appeals, coordinating follow-up actions and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The specialist also plays a critical role in preventing future downgrades by identifying trends and providing feedback to improve coding and clinical documentation practices.

Position Responsibilities:

Key Areas of Responsibility

Denial Resolution

·       Conduct a thorough review of medical records, coding and clinical documentation to validate or appeal payer denials.

·       Prepare, document and submit appeals for DRG denials, ensuring appeals are well-supported with clinical evidence, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

·       Work closely with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) and Coding teams to ensure accurate DRG assignment and enhance documentation practices that support appropriate reimbursement.

·       Ensure that all DRG denial and appeal activities comply with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations, including maintaining knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelines and CMS regulations.

·       Maintain accurate records of denial appeals in the designated software, including the status of appeals, timelines, and outcomes.

·       Monitor appeal deadlines to ensure timely submission of all required documentation and compliance with payer appeal windows.

·       Contribute to revenue protection efforts by successfully overturning inappropriate denials and reducing the financial impact of DRG downgrades.

·       Meet departmental performance goals, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to denial turnaround times, appeal success rates, and denial reduction targets.

Denials Prevention

·       Analyze denial patterns to identify root causes and collaborate on preventive strategies.

·       Proactively address discrepancies between payer policies, regulatory standards and internal processes to prevent future denials.

·       Develop and implement process improvements aimed at preventing denials, such as better workflows, enhanced communication between departments, or technology solutions.

·       Provide regular reports and feedback to leadership and relevant departments on denial prevention efforts, identifying areas needing attention.

Education

·       Provide ongoing education to the coding and CDI teams regarding DRG validation, payer guidelines, and best practices to minimize future denials.

          Stays current on payer policies, regulatory changes, coding guidelines (e.g., ICD-10, DRG), and healthcare regulations that could impact denials and coding practices.

Communication

·       Collaborate with Revenue Cycle and Medical Staff teams to ensure a unified approach to denial management and appeals.

·       Serve as the primary contact with payers on DRG-related denials. Effectively communicate the clinical and coding rationale for the DRG assignment and challenge inappropriate denials.

·       Respond to department inquiries regarding claim denials, explaining the resolution process and providing updates as needed.

·       Communicates across departments as needed.

Other

·       Performs other related duties as required.

·       Mentors new and existing team members.

·       Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.

The Medical Imaging (Radiology) RN Clinician will be responsible for representing ECHN to the Radiology Intervention patient in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.  The Radiology nurse will report directly to the Manager of Vascular and Cardiology Services and indirectly to the Team Leader of Interventional Radiology. The Radiology RN Clinician provides nursing care by assessing the patient pre-intra and-post- procedure and assisting the Radiologist in the various diagnostic radiology testing. Examples are:  Interventional angiography, US guided thorocentesis / paracentesis, CT guided biopsies and any pt care needs that come up in the Medical Imaging Department.  The Radiology, RN Clinician, will administer moderate sedation and other prescribed medication or pharmacological agents pre,intra and-post- radiology procedure/imaging test.

Participates in the operational duties of the department, such as but not limited to; Quality Improvement, Policy and Procedure maintenance, revising and development of billing and gathering of statistical data, developing departmental educational opportunities and participating in the on-going growth and maintenance of the excellent customer services provided to all that ECHN serves as well as assisting the Manager in maximizing the department’s financial resources.

The Radiology RN Clinician also provides educational resources for patients and assesses each patient for understanding of procedures, post procedural education and lifestyle modifications necessary for maintaining optimum health and assists the department in planning and implementing new programs within the department.

 The Radiology RN Clinician accepts on-call responsibilities for the Medical Imaging Department.

 COMPETENCIES:

·         Must be proficient in cardiac monitoring, administration of moderate sedation and be IV competent.

The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.

This is a nurse residency position that upon hire or transfer into the program the nurse commits to a full time learning opportunity.  This program prepares the nurse for an operating room staff nurse position as well as forms the foundation required to successfully take pass the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) certification program. The program commences with a six month AORN, Periop 101 on line didactic program consisting of 27 modules, followed by a 3-5 month clinical orientation. The nurse will be assigned to a nurse educator and preceptor and earn 41.7 CEUs for completion of the online program.  Upon completion the nurse will be offered a full time position at either Manchester Memorial Hospital or Rockville General Hospital. A commitment to the Operating Room will be required for two years.

 The candidate must be willing to undergo a rigorous application process that consists of surgeon, manager, nursing education and staff interviews, observation day and letters of recommendation.  The candidate must be willing to take and pass the Certified Registered Operating Nurse (CNOR) certification exam within six months from residency completion.

Utilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient –centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, patients and families. Communicates, as appropriate, the patient’s clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served.  Promotes the profession of nursing and professional practice through collegial support and interactions. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
