Responsibilities

You will be responsible for scheduling on-site surveys and providing risk control reports to

Mooney, Lenaghan, Westberg Dorn, L.L.C., an Omaha-based insurance defense firm, seeks to add a workers' compensation attorney to join our team. Candidate must have an active Iowa law license in good standing and have knowledge of all phases of Iowa workers' compensation litigation.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney located in Omaha, NE. The attorney will handle all aspects of workers' compensation defense cases, including conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, representing clients at hearings, and negotiating settlements. The role involves active client interaction, advising on legal issues, and collaborating with peers on case strategies to ensure successful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years of experience litigating workers' compensation cases.
  • Independently handles caseload.
  • Exhibits superior written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Maintains the highest level of professional and ethical standards.
  • Reviews file materials upon case assignment and provides a detailed analysis of legal issues and a well-reasoned plan of action.
  • Prepares pleadings, motions, discovery, summaries, and trial/appellate briefs to further defense strategy.
  • Analyzes complex legal and medical issues, conducts appropriate research, and prepares research memoranda for clients.
  • Represents the interests of employers and insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
  • Effectively and timely negotiates settlement for optimal outcome.
  • Proactively attends continuing legal education seminars and utilizes training resources to preserve technical expertise.
