The Division of Geriatrics, Hospice, and Palliative Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, is recruiting for one full-time faculty member in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in Geriatric Medicine and as Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative. Faculty in the Clinical X series is expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

The Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative from the School of Medicine will work in partnership with the Co-Director of the Healthy Aging in a Digital World Initiative from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and will build upon strong connections with the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC), Family Caregiving Institute (FCI), the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), and the College of Engineering (COE) to advance research discerning optimal supports for older adults with dementia and other complex health care needs. The primary purpose of this is to build capacity and advance research and collaborations that improve the health and well-being of older adults. Healthy Aging in a Digital World (HADW) is a major research effort promoting health and independence for older adults through accessible and age-friendly innovative technology solutions. These initiatives bring together an array of transdisciplinary collaborators across the UC Davis comprehensive university and engage a wide variety of community groups and individuals, offering valuable connections for investigators associated with HADW.

Geriatric Medicine Faculty responsibilities include inpatient and/or outpatient clinical care; teaching medical students, residents, and fellows; university/public service; and regular attendance at scheduled meetings and CME activities. The incumbents should be able to provide expert clinical care in the field of geriatric medicine. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues depending on their clinical area of focus. Multidisciplinary collaboration is expected for consultative ambulatory practice with support from physical therapy, pharmacy, nursing and social work. Inpatient geriatrics consultative work to support orthopedics, trauma service and hospital medicine is also available.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications  (required at time of application)

  • Must possess and maintain a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree or equivalent degree.

Additional qualifications  (required at time of start)

  • Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and board certified in Geriatrics

  • Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine in California

  • Ability to foster and sustain partnerships with community stakeholders, including health systems, post-acute care providers, skilled nursing facilities, and memory care organizations, to strengthen translational research and real-world impact.

  • In coordination with the Development team, must have the ability to secure and steward extramural funding from philanthropic gifts, competitive grants, and industry partnerships to ensure the growth and sustainability of Healthy Aging in a Digital World.

The Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering inputs integral to both small and large scale hydro projects. You will lead and mentor teams, support management of production and coordinate delivery of engineering inputs often with multi-disciplinary project team members and senior stakeholders. You will not only support and help grow the broader engineering team capabilities, but your particular focus will be on continuing the development of our powerhouse and energy capabilities and working with key staff in growing that aspect of the business.

You’ll also be involved in supporting project management duties, liaising with both internal and external clients as well as assisting with guiding and mentoring graduate engineers within the team. In this role you will lead teams conducting technical work for feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out onsite visits for rehabilitation and upgrades to dams, hydroelectric facilities and new hydroelectric developments. You will participate in design and play a large role in mentoring the team. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a great team of engineers and scientists, and you will also interface directly with clients.

  • Provide input to those managing and executing multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects.
  • Establish and facilitate connections with other departments to support and enhance service delivery.

About You

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university. A post graduate degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering with demonstrated project management skills (tracking budgets and meeting schedules).
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California, Oregon, or Washington, as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in other states by comity through NCEES.
  • Demonstrated leadership of electrical design projects in the industrial power generation field, with experience managing and mentoring younger staff.
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Client interaction: must be able to effectively assume a lead role as project engineer at project meetings and communicate project and technical information.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the scheduling, coordination, and monitoring of construction projects to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion.
  • Lead and mentor a team comprising project engineers, quality control personnel, and project coordinators.
  • Implement and maintain site-specific safety and quality control plans.
  • Manage subcontractor selection and contract negotiations, ensuring compliance with project standards and specifications.
  • Utilize Primavera P6 for project scheduling and update as needed.
  • Promote and implement Lean Construction and Last Planner System methodologies.
  • Collaborate with project superintendents to oversee material deliveries and construction activities, resolving any issues that arise.

Job Requirements, Qualifications, Characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • 7+ years of work experience in project engineering or management.
  • Firm understanding of all construction trades.
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6, Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Pype, GCPay and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of different delivery methods and contract types.
  • Exceptional communication and writing abilities.
  • Experienced in implementing Lean Construction and the Last Planner System.
  • LEED accreditation and DBIA certification are highly desirable.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven leadership and strong organizational skills.
