Job Summary


Exo is seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Acoustics Design Engineer to perform acoustic and transducer design of its ultrasonic imaging products. In this role, you will help evolve the specification and modeling of Exo’s core pMUT technology into next- generation devices. You will work closely with Product Engineering, Imaging, Manufacturing, and Characterization to translate imaging and system requirements into robust acoustic designs, ensure manufacturability, and resolve acoustic issues from concept through verification and production.


Job Responsibilities (but not limited to)


  • Design, analysis, and optimization of Exo’s pMUT transducer architectures, spanning coupled electrical, mechanical, and acoustic domains across large arrays.
  • Develop and maintain scalable modeling workflows to rapidly explore and optimize pMUT designs within an open design space, accounting for system requirements, architectural trade-offs, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Partner with internal design, process, and manufacturing teams to define, refine, and align on design targets, tolerances, and constraints.
  • Provide detailed modeling support for layout and DFM (design for manufacturing) activities, including prediction of performance variation due to process and material variability.
  • Close the loop between design, process, and test by analyzing characterization data, comparing results to design targets, updating models and specifications, and driving design improvements.
  • Model and analyze acoustic interactions with adjacent structures including lenses and matching layers, reflectors and absorbers, housings, silicon die, PCBs, and interconnects.
  • Translate imaging and system-level requirements into pMUT specifications, making informed trade-offs when competing requirements cannot be met by a single design.
  • Develop simplified and reduced-order models, where appropriate, to capture array- level and system-level physics while maintaining predictive accuracy.
  • Development projects under this organization are at the leading edge of technology and require creative development approaches, particularly with regard to design, architecture, and process variation. Dynamism with flexibility and adaptability to accept new tasks is key.
  • Document models, assumptions, results, and design decisions clearly through reports and presentations to support cross-functional decision-making.


Education/Experience Requirements


  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Acoustics or an equivalent field.

  • Extensive experience with finite element modeling of coupled multi-physics
  • systems.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry or research experience in acoustics, transducers,

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Invent, develop, industrialize, procure, and/or install machinery, tools, and equipment related to the testing of tires (on vehicles and on machines) and materials for tires.

Modify and improve tire-test and material-test equipment.

Manage projects for the purchase of machines/equipment for the testing departments. Follow Michelin project approach through the project stages including:

  • Opportunity Study, Feasibility Study, Risk Analysis, Solution Selection & Development, Installation and Startup, Homologation & Qualification, ROI

Study, select, and purchase equipment and components from outside suppliers which will provide solutions to problems (or desired outcomes) presented by the testing departments.

Collaborate with personnel from various departments including operations, maintenance, test engineers, tire design engineers, purchasing, IT, and management.

Use 3D modeling software (SolidWorks) for developing parts, assemblies, and drawings. Use SolidWorks Simulation tools as required to guarantee integrity of parts and assemblies.

Occasional travel to outside vendors for equipment evaluation/acceptance and to other Michelin sites for equipment startup/installation.

Select and manage contractors and outside vendors performing on-site work.

Analyze data from tire test equipment as required to troubleshoot problems or to improve confidence in test results. Develop an understanding of how tire behavior and measurement can affect the final results. Consider and apply these findings in the development/ procurement/ modification of test equipment.

While you contribute your 1-2 years of site experience, we will provide the platform for you to master the complex logic behind high-purity piping, automated delivery, and international safety codes. You will transition from "building models" to "designing critical infrastructure" for the world's leading tech fabs.


General Responsibilities:

  • Architectural & System Modeling: Develop and prepare high-precision 3D architectural and MEP designs using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Integrated Coordination: Collaborate with engineers and PMs to ensure design accuracy, ensuring all process requirements are met.
  • Design Evolution: Proactively review and update models to reflect real-time design changes and field adjustments.
  • Conflict Resolution: Perform Clash Detection and lead the reporting/solving of spatial discrepancies to ensure a seamless build.
  • Team Leadership: Participate in technical meetings and provide progress updates to stakeholders.

Specialized Knowledge & Growth

  • P&ID Translation: Read and interpret P&IDs/PFDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) to align 3D models with functional process logic.
