Position Summary:
Provide basic patient care to include tube insertion, wound care and phlebotomy. Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure their safety and well being; report observations to Charge Nurse or appropriate designee
* PATIENT CARE - Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements
* PATIENT CARE - Assist with activities of daily living (ADL): meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen change and toileting as instructed
* PATIENT CARE - Maintain therapeutic plan of care and minute to minute care of patient who is at extreme risk to self or others
* PATIENT CARE - Complete documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record
* PATIENT CARE - Complete specific skills listed in the "University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions" Matrix
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

• Performs diagnostic radiology procedures to include common and special CT exams. CT exams use x-ray images and computer processing to generate pictures of tissue densities through the patient's body.

This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications and limitations associated with certain procedures.
• Provides direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
• Provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients and family members at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills, terminology and language.

• Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Uses ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) to protect patients, staff and general public, and follows radiation safety standards. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with radiation safety and infection control procedures. Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
• Reports “near misses” and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvement activities, and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety.
• Performs daily imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.

The Certified EP Lab Tech assists physicians in diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and performs delegated duties in support of the Electrophysiology Lab.

Education:

• Associates degree or professional licensure required.

Experience:

• 2+ years of healthcare related experience in any of the following: EMT, Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, ER Techs, Exercise Physiologists, Cardiac Tech, ARRT certified Radiologic Tech.

Licensure/Certification:

• Must have the ability to obtain a RCES/RCIS certification through CCI or Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) within 2 years of hire date unless currently hold an active ARRT certification.

• NH State licensure for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. Required within 30 days of hire if not currently held.

• State licensure for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy required.

• BLS certified. If not BLS certified, must obtain BLS certification prior to completion of orientation, not to exceed 21 days from date of hire with Catholic Medical Center. Must maintain BLS throughout employment.

• ACLS certified. If not ACLS, certified must have the ability to obtain ACLS certification during orientation period and maintain during employment.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Radiology Technician performs radiographic procedures using fixed and portable units in the imaging department, nursing units, and operating suites. Assists physicians in fluoroscopy using fixed and portable units. Practices radiation safety and observes universal precautions at all times. Pursues professional development for the continual improvement of patient care. Performs related work as required.

• Utilizes appropriate resources to complete assignment within allocated time period.
• Adapts to changes in volume/acuity demands. Remains calm in crisis situations.
• Adheres to Attendance and Tardiness Policy.
• Supports responsible staffing decisions (cancels, places staff on hold/on call, calls in on hold/on call staff appropriately).
• Demonstrates efforts to eliminate waste.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Graduate of a program in radiologic technology approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or documented equivalent education.
• Licensure: Current certification by the American Registry of Radiology: Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as an RT(R) or eligible for registry.
• Note: Registry eligible applicants must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
• BCLS certification required.
• Experience: Ability to perform radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures following accepted standards and departmental protocols.
