Required Qualifications

  • Active California Physician Assistant license (PA-C) and CA DEA registration
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in surgical settings (surgical PA experience required)
  • Board certification required
  • Robotics experience and certification (please provide documentation)
  • Ability to independently assist in surgical cases and manage inpatient care (OR first assist experience preferred)
  • Documentation of at least 25 general cases (notes, H&P, op reports) and 5 OR cases
  • Must be a Physician Assistant (PA-C) — NPs not accepted

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship in surgical subspecialty preferred
  • Prior locum tenens or contract experience in California or similar hospital settings

Responsibilities

  • Serve as first assist in surgical oncology and general surgery cases (OR first assist duties)
  • Provide inpatient medical and surgical care on hospital wards
  • Support surgeons in both major and minor operative cases, including robotics-assisted procedures
  • Conduct clinic visits, patient assessments, pre-op and post-op follow-ups
  • Manage patient phone calls and coordinate multidisciplinary care as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all patient encounters (H&Ps, op notes, progress notes)

Summary:
General Summary:
Provides simple, intermediate, and complex therapeutic and diagnostic procedures on the general care floors and special care units. Improves and maintains patient cardiopulmonary status through the application and administration of various medications, gases, devices, and procedures. Functions as a clinical specialist within one of three specialty areas: neonatal/pediatrics, adults, or pulmonary function testing & diagnostics. Orient new employees and precept students. Provides leadership, charge therapist duties, and serves as a team leader to optimize patient care and work with all staff to ensure quality and patient safety. Provides training to increase staff’s skills and competencies. Ensures communication between staff, physicians, and nursing. Additionally, in Pulmonary Function Testing Laboratory/Diagnostics, provides and has in depth knowledge in simple, intermediate, and complex cardiopulmonary diagnostic tests and procedures. NBRC Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) credential (Adults).
