  • 31-bed main ED as well as 3 trauma bays.
  • Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
  • STEMI Receiving Center, interventional stroke and cardiac.
  • All core subspecialties available excluding transplant.
  • Site resources include PEDS EM physician from 12pm-10pm, Behavioral Health response team, and in-house trauma service/ICU.

This position will coordinate laboratory sections of the introductory Habitable Planet course (EAS 1601) that serves 500 undergraduate students per academic year and will teach upper-level undergraduate meteorology courses. The Vice Chair for Research will work under the direction of the Systems Chair and in collaboration with other departmental Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs, and Center Directors to provide overall vision, leadership, and coordination of the Department of Emergency Medicine's diverse research team and portfolio that includes clinical, health services, laboratory, translational, operations, and education research. The successful candidate for this position must have a MD, MD/PhD, or PhD. The candidate would be considered for faculty rank of tenured Associate Professor or Professor at RSOM. We seek candidates with current extramural research funding, including federal grants (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, CDC) and other funding agencies. Leadership is an important feature of this position, and successfully mentoring and leading teams of investigators is also an important qualification. This research leader will focus on the development of faculty researchers and expanding the structures that support research in the Department and across the Stony Brook Medicine system. The position will develop an updated research strategy, advance federally funded research , diversify research funding sources, and collaborate with our Center of Excellence for Research and Clinical Trials within the department. The candidate must be experienced in successfully training learners and/or junior faculty in research methods and promoting the independent research careers of these trainees.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Evaluate research needs and work with the Departmental and Hospital leadership to analyze and recommend strategic goals (e.g., Space, funding, research management, support, instrumentation, equipment, capital).
  • Lead and facilitate collaborations within the department and across the institution.
  • Expand and further develop research in a supportive clinical environment.
  • Guide the department's research programs and provide strong research mentorship to clinical faculty and fellows in basic, clinical , and population sciences.
  • Guide the development of translational science that covers multiple disciplines.
  • Ensure that all hospital and department requirements are met for research faculty (e.g., grant submissions, career development activities and other academic achievements).
  • Grow research education and department offerings (e.g., grant writing).

About the School of Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Computer Science, one of five schools in the top ten ranked College of Computing, focuses on research that makes computing and communication smart, fast, reliable, and secure, with research groups in computer architecture, databases, machine learning, networking, programming languages & compilers, software engineering, systems, and theory. Faculty from our school are leaders in a variety of Georgia Tech initiatives, including the Algorithms and Randomness Center (ARC), the Center for Machine Learning ( ), the Center for Research into Novel Computing Hierarchies (CRNCH), and the Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS).

Job Summary

The School of Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. We seek candidates in all areas of computer science that complement and enhance our current research strengths and are especially interested this year in candidates whose research focus is in the broad areas of software engineering, data systems (database), theoretical computer science, and quantum systems.



Responsibilities

As a tenure-track faculty member, a successful candidate will engage in substantive research individually and/or with collaborators in the same or other disciplines. In addition, a successful candidate will be expected to teach one graduate or undergraduate course per semester, in Georgia Tech's Atlanta campus, as well as contribute service to the School and Institute.



Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related field (including Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Science, or Computing) by the start of the appointment.



Preferred Qualifications

Applicants must show evidence of outstanding academic research credentials and stellar potential in their field of study, a sincere commitment to teaching, and an interest and ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment. We seek faculty candidates committed to student success including but not limited to:

  • The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
  • The ability to engage in high-impact practices that support deep learning for student success.
