We are seeking a Sub-Investigator at ourย Florida Research Institute (FRI),ย a global leader in gastroenterology and hepatology research, with a team of more than 20 highly trained clinical research experts.ย The role of the Sub-Investigator isย to apply medical knowledge and experience, under the direction of the Principal Investigator to oversee and direct clinical course of research participants in clinical trials. The Sub-Investigator will assess physical health and administer treatments throughout the study aligned with scope of practice delegated responsibilities. He/she will oversee study conduct and assure study participant safety. The Sub-Investigator will coordinate and manage care for participants enrolled in a clinical research trial. The sub investigator will also be responsible for overseeing the execution of study protocols, delegating study related duties to site staff and ensuring site compliance with study protocols, study-specific laboratory procedures, standard operating procedures, standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), adhering to OSHA guidelines and other state and local regulations as applicable.


Under the direction of the Director and the Principal Investigator, responsibilities will include, identify and recruitment of participants, participate in study visits, communicate with families, participants, referring physicians and other health care providers, Educating and guidance to participants and families to ensure compliance and retention of study participants, tracking and recording of adverse events, perform physical exams to ensure enrollment criteria and to track for any changes during study participation, diagnose and treat medical conditions such as allergic reactions and anaphylaxis during study drug administration, exacerbations of illness, formulate and evaluate treatment plans, manage common conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma and eczema, review home diaries and be available for on call advice and emergencies between clinic visits, administer rescue medications based on clinical judgment.ย 


Essential Duties:ย 

  • Ensure the safety of study participants, and maintain communication with patients, FRI team members, and clinicians
  • Provide clinical and medical support and oversight for research clinical trials based on scope of practice; obtain complete study participant history, conduct physical exams, review medical charts, assess findings, prescribe and re-fill medication, and perform designated procedures according to written protocols.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, researchers, outside vendors, and other staff to administer treatment and study protocols
  • Assess, grade, and document adverse events; apply triage and judgment to determine course of action
  • Oversee and as needed, administer medications and treatments per study protocol and scope of practice
  • Comply with institutional policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines; prepare and submit documentation as required by the study protocol and study sponsor; interpret complex protocols. Coordinate and collaborate with principal investigator to review study protocol.ย 
  • Identify, recruit, and enroll study participants, as well as maintain study participant records; determine study participant criteria
  • Support sponsor investigator research with investigational new drug/investigational device exemption applications
  • Communicate with FDHS partner when indicated
  • Guidance of medical assistance team
  • Management of patient medical and scheduling issues when indicated

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree with current medical licensure in the state of Florida is required
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of the: Drug development process, Clinical trial management, study team management, Clinical monitoring, FDA regulations, ICH Good Clinical Practice, and Good Documentation Practice, HIPAA
  • Current Basic CPR certification

The practice of a physician assistant shall provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan including medications; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposes, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and the patient?s physician is not immediately available.

In addition, the PA must have experience providing diagnostic and treatment options for allergic diseases, performing allergy skin testing for adults and children, treating, and managing food allergy, asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis.

The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other community or institution settings in several locations such as 1180 Morris Park, 1250 Waters Place, White Plains and Harrison.

How You Improve Our Patients Lives!

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and obtain medical histories focused on allergy and sinus conditions.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic allergic and sinus conditions, including allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, and asthma.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including allergy testing, sinus CT scans, and pulmonary function tests.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans including medications, immunotherapy, and procedural recommendations.
  • Perform and assist with in-office procedures such as:
    • Administration and supervision of allergy immunotherapy (SCIT and SLIT)
    • Nasal endoscopy
  • Educate patients on disease management, treatment options, and medication use.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Document all patient encounters accurately in EHR within 24 hours of their visit
  • Oversee and manage both food and environmental allergy testing for patients by utilizing both Percutaneous Allergy Skin Testing and Intracutaneous Allergy Testing.
  • Provide pre-op and post-op evaluation and treatment after a variety of surgeon performed sinus procedures.
  • Develop relationships with referring medical providers and the local medical community.
  • Attend lunches and events with the assigned territory provider relationship rep. to help garner credibility and market Aspire.
  • Adhere to standard metrics:
    • Testing: 50% minimum threshold
    • Treatment: 30% minimum threshold
    • IOP Conversion: 7% minimum threshold
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Needed to be Successful

Required education and experience

  • 3+ Years of Practicing as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate from an approved Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Current Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardia Life Support (ACLS) Certified
  • Must have a valid driver?s license
