Overview: The Packaging Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations by performing setups and maintenance tasks on assigned production lines. This position requires in-depth knowledge of each component in a bottle packaging line, the correct setup, connection between components, and efficient completion of changeovers. The ideal candidate can operate multiple machines simultaneously and perform maintenance on various equipment within the bottle packaging area, including bottle unscramblers, tablet counters, cappers, labelers, and case packers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform moderate to complex adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on packaging and pneumatic equipment.
- Conduct machine changeovers, troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical systems, and make appropriate repairs.
- Execute daily preventative maintenance on packaging equipment, conveyors, compressors, and assist with equipment installations.
- Complete work orders for machinery repairs, interpret equipment manuals, diagnose issues, replace or repair parts, test, and adjust equipment.
- Utilize hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in daily tasks.
- Set up full line configurations independently, identifying and reporting any faulty operations or defective materials.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, cGMPs, ethical practices, and SOPs, completing documentation such as operation logs and batch records accurately.
- Perform quality inspections during operations, adhering to product quality standards, and execute all required sampling and testing.
- Train and guide Packaging Operators in safe and effective machine operation, including breakdown and sanitation tasks.
- Adhere to proper gowning and hygiene as per SOPs and cGMPs, promoting a safe work environment by following all safety protocols.
- Support other mechanical or maintenance needs as required and maintain regular, punctual attendance with flexibility for extended hours and occasional weekend overtime.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance of bottle packaging lines, including troubleshooting, repairs, setup, and disassembly.
- 2+ years of experience in nutraceutical, supplement, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing in a maintenance mechanic role for bottle packaging lines.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and work orders.
- Proficient in using measuring equipment like micrometers, calipers, scales, and Volt/Ohm Meters.
- Familiarity with cGMP and OSHA standards; strong mechanical aptitude for machine repair and troubleshooting.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Perform routine and highly complex assignments involved in the installation, maintenance, modification, trouble shooting, repair and calibration of complex therapeutic and diagnostic devices and systems.
Resolve highly complex equipment failures that have immediate risks to patient safety, utilizing comprehensive knowledge of imaging techniques, technologies, radiological practices and procedures.
Collaborate with other facility support departments, including Engineering Services (ES), Information Technology and Information Security Officer (IT/ISO).
Utilize advanced radiological test equipment, including but not limited to radiation dosimeters, calibration phantoms, high voltage testing devices, KV and MA meters and monitor calibration devices in addition to common test equipment including electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, patient simulators, pulse generators, network analyzers, and multimeters, among others.
Manage the lifecycle of other medical devices and systems such as life support, dialysis, and monitoring.
Complete assignments involved in the installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of these complex therapeutic, diagnostic and life support medical devices and systems, including inspections, regular and unscheduled maintenance, and planning for end-of-life replacement in conjunction with clinical services.
Maintain timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Provide leadership in troubleshooting and decision-making for complex or high-priority equipment issues.
Ensure that equipment meets clinical needs and suggest improvements or new technologies to optimize patient care.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

· Pump tests: Conduct pump and well performance tests requiring monitoring and evaluation of well discharge metering. Collect and document detailed performance data in handwritten or digital spreadsheets.

Evaluate and determine next steps for repair or replacement and communicate with supervisor.

YOU MUST HAVE:
· Experience and education: Must have 2+ years of relevant experience in water well pump systems and a high school diploma or equivalent.
· Operational experience: Must have experience with machinery through work in construction, drilling, electrical, mechanical, or other contract projects.
· Ability to travel and work remotely up to 100% of the time. All work is outdoors and is year-round.
· Drug-free status: Must be able to pass regular DOT drug screenings.
· Licenses and certifications: Commercial drivers license, class A (CDL A) is HIGHLY desirable Must possess a driver's license with a clean driving record.

Position Responsibilities:
Operate, install electrical systems and perform functional testing of building and plant equipment (e.g., machines, motor controls, room re-models)
Determine if system should be shut down or work must be performed with power source on
Lock out, tag out, try out equipment and related systems
Perform primary and secondary testing on electrical breakers during routine maintenance; replace, update and retro fit breakers
Perform routine tests on high voltage switches and relays, using hi-potential test equipment (Hipot), replace switch or relay
Troubleshoot electric motors using appropriate test equipment
Monitor current, voltage, amperage, frequency and watts hours at sub-stations using online computing system
Check and service electrical systems, using infrared analysis sheets to locate hot spots in service panel
Service and maintain electrical systems on various types of overhead cranes
Operate, install electrical systems and perform functional test of building and plant equipment (e.g., machines, motor controls, room re-models)
Install and perform routine maintenance on all types of lighting fixtures (e.g., fluorescent, halide, standard); clean and check sockets, and replace ballast and bulbs
Run high voltage electrical cable from sub-station to unit station; cut and splice cable, test cable for resistance
Install, replace and repair fiber optic cable for computers and computing systems
Bend conduit and install junction boxes; pull wire of various gauge and color through conduit using a fish tape; install and connect switches and outlets
Check work after completion or after each operation; ensure job is per drawing and WAC, NEC codes; evaluate job for work to be performed (e.g., wire size, electrical load, conduit)
Operate mechanical lifts of various types (e.g. tiger lift, spider lift, snorkel lift), to access work areas
Install wire, crimp, terminate, and solder using tools (e.g., crimpers, wire cutters, soldering gun) in plant electrical systems
Establish/verify voltage, amperage, frequency and watts using test equipment (e.g., circuit trackers, sonic circuit chasers, volt, amperage meters)

Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)
* 2 years of previous experience working in at least one maintenance discipline
* High School Diploma or GED preferred
* Certificate/Diploma in Industrial Maintenance or similar area strongly preferred.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Follow diagrams, operation manuals, manufacturing instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions
* Communicate with all levels in organization
* Ability to take accurate measurements and maintain paperwork throughout the shift.
* Ability to work independently to make decisions with minimal supervision

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Previous experience is a Refrigeration maintenance position.
* Industrial Refrigeration Certification
* Weld equipment and parts using mig, tig, and stick methods.
* Perform mill/lathe work as needed.
* Perform plumbing work as needed.
* Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Physical Demands
* While performing the duties of this job, an IMT is frequently required to stand, walk, have hands/finger dexterity, reach with hands/arms, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, climb, speak and hear.
* The IMT is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
* Ability to wear respirator and/or work in confined spaces.
* Must pass Hazmat physical
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements
* Work is performed in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities.
* Work assignments may range across the entirety of the plant complex, including non-refrigerated and refrigerated areas, with temperatures that range from -20 degrees Fahrenheit to 90+ degrees Fahrenheit.
* Position requires working around processing plant equipment.
* Must wear the required PPE to include steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hardhat, safety vest, gloves, and hearing protection.
* The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection.
* May work with raw and/or cooked meat.
