Job Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered perioperative care in alignment with the DUHS Professional Practice Model. The RN is responsible for delivering and coordinating direct and indirect nursing care using the nursing process to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for surgical patients
• Providing advanced and specialized perioperative nursing care
• Participating in clinical ladder advancement, education, committees, and quality initiatives
• Ensuring compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional nursing practice requirements
• Maintaining respectful, collaborative relationships with patients, families, and care team members

Schedule

• Orientation: MondayFriday, five (5) 8-hour day shifts (6:30 a.m.3:00 p.m.)
• Post-orientation: MondayFriday, three (3) 12-hour shifts (6:30 a.m.7:00 p.m.)
• On-call, holidays, and weekends are required as needed
• Schedule subject to change based on unit needs

Required Qualifications

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Nursing Diploma, or higher is required
• Nurses without a BSN must enroll in an approved BSN program within 2 years of hire and complete it within 7 years

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• 1+ year of Operating Room experience preferred
• Scrub and/or circulating experience required

Licensure & Certification

• Current RN licensure in North Carolina or a compact RN license required
• BLS certification (or higher) required
• Professional specialty certification preferred

Job Summary:

Performs professional nursing care for patients in a primary care setting (the home or alternate-site setting) according to nursing practices, agency policies and regulations. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Major Job Responsibilities:

1. Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with the NC nurse practice act, physician orders and established policies and procedures. 7. Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences, as necessary, to assure appropriate care and service are provided to the patient.
8. Maintain up to date knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid/JCAHO standards thru inservices and workshop attendance.
9. Assesses the severity of patient symptoms, communicate to the physician and record significant findings, intervenes as appropriate.
10. Document care and services provided in accordance with DHCH Policy and Procedures and regulatory standards.
11. Complete documentation accurately, timely, concisely.
12. Medication reconciliation and education to prevent adverse events and readmission to hospital
13. Observe patient's reactions to medications and reports significant incidents to the physicians.
14. Communicate regularly with team members, caregivers, and physicians.
15. Follow infection control standard precautions and uses personal protective equipment as required.
16. Delegate and supervise care given by NCA's/LPN's.
17. Develop plan of care for aides, assign care to aides based on the skills of the aide, the availability of the aide for patient care continuity, patient preference (when possible), and other considerations as determined by the patient's care needs.
18. Identify personal learning needs and implements corrective action: assists in planning and conducting staff development programs to improve DHCC effectiveness.
19. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
20. Implement agency policy, procedures and objectives.
21. Work closely and collaboratively with agency billing staff to ensure accuracy of billing.
22. Maintain confidentiality of employee and patient information.

The Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides direct patient care services and performs medical acts under the supervision of the supervisory physician to patients >18 years of age requiring palliative care and symptom management. The APP performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. The Palliative Care APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership in the organization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• In collaboration with attending palliative care physicians, diagnose, plan treatment, set priorities and realistic outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost efficiency of patient care.
• Provide and coordinate clinical care through established protocols and under the supervising physician or back up physician who is either on site or available by pager.
• Assess patients for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate emergency interventions to stabilize the patient until physician support arrives.
• Develop patient care pathways, protocols and guidelines for the management of specific problems in conjunction with physicians and other members of the health care team.
• Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
• Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising MD, nursing staff, patient resource manager, home health agency, hospice agency and other relevant healthcare providers.

The APP will augment a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients in the clinic (will mainly be outpatient) and hospital as well as possible assist in the operating room. The APP will work in collaboration with physicians and advanced practice providers providing direct patient care services, performing consultations, collecting and documenting data, assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and ordering and scheduling laboratory studies.

In-patient consults are performed at Duke University Hospital.

Experience

• Preference for 1+ years of work experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (APP) in Women's Health and/or Oncology.

Job Responsibilities

• Care for patients with gynecologic malignancies and benign gynecologic conditions such as dysplasia, hyperplasia, and germline genetic mutations.
• Obtain patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record data in the patient's record; write progress notes; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic-therapeutic procedures; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects to the patient.
• Utilize medical decision making to create an individualized patient plan of care.
• Perform and/or assist with IUD placement/removal and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures such as colposcopy, cervical-vulvar-vaginal biopsies, and endometrial biopsies to aid in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. • Play a significant role in managing end of life and supportive care issues across the scope of our practice in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This position will work with our emergency general surgery services and our trauma service.
