This position will be located in our Virtual Care Command Center located at Cox South Hospital
** The Early Intervention Team (EIT) Nurse is a registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and is responsible for coordination of EIT assessment of patient, prioritization and implementation of interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes, documentation of interventions and outcomes, communication with other team members and disciplines, and safe delivery of age appropriate and culturally aware patient care.

As an EIT Nurse you will also be responsible for: Addressing the patient/family biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and education needs.

The EIT Nurse serves as a resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments.

Rapid Response calls, follow-up visits, EIT data collection, entry and analysis, development of EIT practice guidelines, evaluation of patient codes and informal education of staff.

Managing rapid prevention and treatment of patients experiencing sepsis, CVA, respiratory distress, acute coronary syndrome and other comorbidities.

Recognizing, assessing, coordinating, interpreting clinical surveillance data, re-evaluating the nursing care plan of patients and communicating that plan to the assigned team members and bedside clinical team.

Possessing an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of nursing care for a specific unit patient population to include patients and their families, utilizing conscientious consideration for patients with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Performing crisis intervention as a first priority and be a lead resource when responding to Rapid Response, Code Blue, Class 1 Stroke, In-House STEMI and In-House Trauma.

Being regarded as a resource and subject matter expert for staff on patient care issues.

Providing consultative assessments to help facilitate higher level transfers within the hospital.

To provide safe and effective respiratory care as an advanced Respiratory Therapist for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations in accordance with discipline training, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and hospital standards and protocols. Essential Job Statements

Initiates, Monitors & Maintains Mechanical Ventilation

Performs set-up, monitoring, transport, appropriate alarm setting, teaching, and hand-off for ventilation and support, to include CPAP and BiPAP. Maintains all ventilator related equipment to ensure safety of ventilator operation. Therapist utilizes own clinical skill to assess the effects of all ventilator changes ordered.

Respiratory Care Modalities

Performs respiratory care assessments, interventions, teaching (patients, families, care givers, students and other healthcare staff), and handoff that may include the following: volume expansion, airway clearance, inhaled medications, airway care to include tracheostomy and laryngectomy tube changes, intubation (if applicable), and medical gas administration. Therapist utilizes own clinical skill to assess the effects of all therapies ordered and/or performed.

Complies with Laws, Regulations, Policies & Procedures

Demonstrates compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations, including those related to Medicaid and Medicare; Joint Commission standards; College of American Pathologists; credentialing and licensure requirements and all VCUHS policies and procedures.

Documentation

Documents equipment and patient assessments, consultation, clinical notes on ordered therapies, interventions, and the plan of care; documents and charges for services provided. Maintains accurate records of time worked by utilizing hospital timekeeping system.

Diagnostic Modalities

Performs or assists with diagnostic procedures that may include blood gas sampling and analysis, pressure-volume measurements, peak flow measurements, simple spirometry, and bronchoscopy assistance. Therapist utilizes own clinical skill to assess the quality and reliability of test results performed.

Resource Accountability

Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and accountability in use of VCUHS resources.

QI Activities & Continuing Education

Participates in QI activities, continuing education, annual recertification, and research opportunities.

Labor & Delivery Assistance (if assigned)

Performs labor and delivery assistance that may include oxygenation and ventilatory support. Therapist utilizes own clinical skill to assess the effects of all interventions ordered and/or performed.

External Critical Care Transports (if assigned)

Performs external transports for critically ill neonatal/pediatric patients to include comprehensive equipment and supplies gathering, medical gas administration, and ventilatory support. Therapist utilizes own clinical skill to assess the effects of all interventions ordered and/or performed.

Shift Team Leader or Resource Therapist

Performs shift team leader role in absence of supervisor or performs role of Resource Therapist for assigned shift.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department. Provides assistance to team members. Accepts alternate assignments, as required, graciously.

Employment Qualifications

Required Education:

Education, training and/or experience that has satisfied the eligibility requirements for the National Board for Respiratory Care (or its predecessor organizations)

Combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program

Licensure/Certification Required:

Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist required.

Current registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)/(*CRT) required.

OR

A current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) eligible to sit for the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exam. Must pass the NBRC Registry Exam within 6 months of hire date

Current CPR certification as required by practice setting.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for leading, managing and directing assigned responsibilities and functions that contribute to the operational and financial success of the hospital clinical laboratory.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Directs personnel actions including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, salary determinations, training, and personnel evaluations. 5. Serves as a communication liaison for the Integrated Laboratory System. Interacts with physicians, nurses, clients, system staff, all employees of the company and other healthcare professionals. Effectively communicates concerning technical and operational issues, as applicable, using appropriate verbal and written skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in business, health care administration or related field.
  • Must be qualified as a technical supervisor OR as a general supervisor depending on the specific site or discipline, as defined under CLIA '88 regulations.
  • Must have four (4) years leadership experience with direct reports and management level responsibility.
  • A significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures of different software programs is required.

*Qualifications*
Qualifications include:
* High School diploma or equivalent required.
* Associate degree or higher in Radiologic Technology preferred
* ARRT Certified Required and must maintain CEUs.
* Associates degree or equivalent education/experience
* Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. If required certification is not current at time of hire, must complete within six months.
* Radiologic Technologist experience preferred.
* CT and/or MRI experience preferred.
* Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and adjust to shifting priorities
*Working conditions*
Environmentally controlled hospital environment. Fast paced and occasionally high pressure or emergent situations. Exposure to radiation which is minimized using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective lead aprons, gloves, thyroid shields, and other shielding devices and monitored by radiation badges. Possible exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
Serve multiple Age groups neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric.
*Schedule will be 5pm Friday evening to 6am Monday, with On-Call hours being paid at the rate of $6 an hour. If you live within 30 miles of Community Hospital-Fairfax you may leave site for on call, otherwise you will need to stay on location. Sleep room is provided. On-Call hours are 10pm to 7am Friday and Saturday night and 10pm to 6am on Sunday.*

Overview: The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenator (ECMO) Specialist is responsible for the daily operation of the ECMO program under the direction of the ECMO Coordinator.

The ECMO Specialist is responsible for all aspects of monitoring and troubleshooting the ECMO circuit and related equipment during the management period.

They are expected to maintain and effectively assess ECMO circuit function and integrity.

The ECMO Specialist independently ensures administration of blood products and medication delivery is accurate and safe for all patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.

The ECMO Specialist will maintain proactive involvement in quality improvement by the identification of issues, planning and evaluation of quality.
