  • Protect patients, employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and controlled substance regulations. Utilize universal precautions and practice at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care staff.
  • Document patient care service by charting in patients’ medical records accurately and timely in accordance with licensure and regulatory/hospital standards.
  • Maintain continuity of care with the nursing team by communicating plan of care and follow through with multidisciplinary team ensuring that patient administration of care for all services provided are organized, planned and delivered.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain nursing supplies inventory checking stock to determine inventory and PAR level; anticipating needs supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies; using equipment to accomplish job.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, mandatory in-services; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • The nurse participates in the advancement of the profession through contributions to practice, education, administration, and knowledge development.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives including continuing education, participation in hospital-wide and unit specific teams, identifying nursing practice areas for quality improvement and safe outcomes.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among the healthcare team by communicating information; responding to request; building rapport; participating in team problem solving.
  • Provide service excellence to patients and their families/visitors that meets or exceeds patient expectations through offering empathetic and compassionate patient-centered care.
  • Professionally manage patient and family/visitor needs and concerns using AIDET and positive service recovery methods.
  • Respond to patient requests and makes active referrals to subject matter expert/decision maker who can fulfill the patient request

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an associate’s degree.

 

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program or higher degree.
  • One or more years of experience in related setting.
     
Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current New York State licensure as a Registered Nurse

 

PREFERRED:

General Summary of Position
Professional care provider who assesses plans implements and evaluates the nursing care of patients from admission through discharge. In collaboration with the patient and family provides theory-based professional nursing care and coordinates care delivery with various members of the interdisciplinary team

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifies current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions.
  • Incorporates evidence-based practice and research into patient care delivery with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Serves as a patient advocate by independently communicating clinical concerns including ethical decisions in a timely manner to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Practices within legal boundaries of nurse practice act and possesses a theoretical understanding of the universal ethical principles. Recognizes ethical discourse in practice and may seek other resources in advocacy for support and counsel.
  • Individualizes patients plan of care focusing on short and long-range goals and effectively uses a variety of teaching resources to meet the learning needs of patients and families.

  • Evaluates the patient's response to treatment and progress toward short and long-range goals and revises nursing interventions as appropriate.
  • Identifies patient and family needs prior to discharge. Initiates and monitors discharge planning activities in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Supports and contributes to the unit department entity and organizational goals inclusive of the mission vision and values.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited academic nursing program required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited academic nursing program preferred
  • If prepared at the associate degree in nursing level required to enroll in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date and completion within 4 years of hire date.

Experience

  • 1-2 years RN experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the state or jurisdiction of the facility seeking employment required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) is required for Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery antepartum antenatal testing) within 12 months from date of hire. New graduate nurses or new to specialty nurses (labor and delivery antepartum antenatal testing) will have 15 months from date of hire to obtain the EFM certification.

Qualifications

Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.

Inpatient Medical Surgical

Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, cellulitis, diverticulitis, respiratory infections, and small bowel obstructions.

Neurology – 8E

Care for patients experiencing strokes, seizures, brain tumors, and intracranial bleeds while collaborating with neurology specialists.

Orthopedics

Support patients recovering from joint replacements, spine surgeries, and foot/ankle procedures.

General Surgery – 3W

Care for surgical patients ranging from appendectomies to colon resections and bariatric procedures.

Medical Telemetry – 7E & 7W

Monitor patients with cardiac concerns, chest pain, COPD exacerbations, infections, and gastrointestinal conditions.

Oncology – 8W

Provide compassionate care for oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, cancer treatment, and supportive medical care.

Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program with one of the following:

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Responsibilities

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. Qualifications

(b) Uses proper body mechanics. (c) Ambulates/ transfers residents per plan of care. (d) Positions residents to maintain body alignment per policy and procedure and plan of care.

    • Answers call lights promptly and determine residents’ needs.

    • Ensures that residents are clean, neatly dressed according to preference or age, and well-groomed.
