Acutis is seeking motivated and enthusiastic interns to join our clinical molecular laboratory team. The unpaid 8-week internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in molecular diagnostics, specifically focusing on urinary tract infection (UTI) testing. Interns will be trained through a structured program that includes orientation, shadowing experienced technologists, and hands-on practice with laboratory techniques.

Interns may have the opportunity to apply for a NYS Restricted License in Molecular Diagnostics.

The Molecular Diagnostics Intern responsibilities include:

·        Participate in an orientation program that includes laboratory tours, safety protocols, and administrative tasks.

·        Shadow laboratory technologists to understand the workflow of molecular testing and UTI processing.

·        Training in accessioning samples.

·        Learn and perform various laboratory techniques, including pipetting, sample processing, and data analysis.

·        Engage in hands-on practice with contrived samples to develop skills in UTI sample plating, extraction, and PCR.

·        Review and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to UTI testing and viral processing.

·        Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and protocols.

·        Undergo assessments to track progress.

·        Deliver a final presentation.

• ARRT-R - Radiologic Technologist - Radiographer (ARRT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologist_PSV and
• CMRT - Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist - State Licensure - Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation_PSV Registration as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT-GC) and
• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association and
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association

• Performs interventional and therapeutic radiologic procedures including but not limited to: peripheral and coronary angioplasty, stents, rotablators, artherectomy, laser, and coronary ultrasound; electrophysiology procedures including ablations and device implantation, fluoroscopy and cine modalities, as well as recommending various radiological techniques to maximize best visualization of patient’s cardiac anatomy.
• Actively participates and scrubs into Cath Lab cases to assist with the movement and alignment of equipment as well as the control of radiation throughout procedures.
• Provides care for the physical needs of patients by executing various Radiologic concepts to maximize performance. This includes: positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors. Modifies technical factors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizes complications / limitations associated with certain procedures. Proactively identifies how to address these for optimum outcomes.

• Follows radiation safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly. Properly utilizes patient radiation protection and immobilization during diagnostic procedures. Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with infection control procedures. Complies with job, departmental and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
• Ensures all imaging equipment has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.

• Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered.

Responsibilities:

• Serves as resource for circulating, scrubbing and recording on adult diagnostic/interventional procedures and in 3 out of 5 other service areas (electrophysiology, pediatrics, neuro intervention, structural heart and/or vascular).

• Assists with the maintenance of team cohesiveness and positive customer relationships.

• Assist in orientation and training of staff and acts as clinical resource for new staff.

• Develops, tracks and reports department service indicators for quality assurance.

• Perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, ensuring maintenance of equipment and cleanliness of lab.

• Serves as daily team lead and ensures accurate medication, charge and reporting accuracy of daily procedural case load which may include audits.

• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in invasive cardiovascular/cardiopulmonary technologist program, radiology, respiratory therapy, paramedic; surgical tech (certificate must be 1 yr. min program). 3 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.

• Plus 3 years of adult cath lab diagnostic and interventional procedure in performing scrubbing, circulating and monitoring and recording duties.

• RCIS or RCES required.

• ACLS (PALS is only required at Presbyterian Downtown) is required within the first 6 months

• Requires detailed knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease processes and principles of cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional technology.
