Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer at Quality Steel Corporation (QSC) supports engineering and automation work across the company’s four sites. This role is part of the machine-build group responsible for designing and building manufacturing equipment for internal use. The Manufacturing Engineer supports the full build cycle of manufacturing equipment, including design, fabrication support, assembly, construction, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support. This role works on a cross-discipline team and spends time in the machine build shop and on plant floors during evaluation, planning, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support mechanical design and improvement projects for manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and plant systems.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, work instructions, build notes, BOMs, spare parts lists).
- Assist with equipment build, testing, and commissioning activities; participate in runoffs and troubleshooting.
- Collect and analyze data related to downtime, scrap, throughput, and process capability; help implement corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives (layout improvements, error-proofing, standard work, cycle time reduction).
- Assist controls engineers with basic tasks such as panel assembly, I/O checks, sensor selection, device documentation, panel labeling, and simple HMI/PLC changes (training provided; complexity scales with ability).
- Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and quality teams to prioritize issues and close the loop on fixes.
- Work with vendors on components, quotes, and technical details for engineering projects.
- Participate directly in fabrication support, assembly, and build activities in the machine build shop as needed.
Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in manufacturing preferred, consideration given for other relevant experience.
- Willingness to work in a hands-on environment and spend regular time in the machine build shop and on plant floors during commissioning.
- Comfort learning new tools quickly; able to follow structured troubleshooting and documentation practices.
- Internship/co-op, senior design, or hands-on project experience (machines, automation, fabrication, robotics, PLC exposure, etc.) preferred.
- Basic CAD familiarity (SolidWorks/Inventor/Fusion 360 or similar).
- Basic electrical/controls familiarity (sensors, wiring concepts, ladder logic exposure) preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Summary
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the candidate will perform field and office-based tasks aligned with company policies, standards, and best practices. You’ll also contribute to project success by providing quality control support, observations, and technical recommendations to the project team.
Main Responsibilities
· Install and maintain the performance of various geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments following Sixense procedures, including but not limited to datalogging systems, Vibration Monitors, Noise Monitors and Automatic Motorized Total Stations.

The Automation Technician plays a vital role in supporting and advancing the automated systems throughout the food manufacturing facility. This individual will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of electrical and control systems with a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in automation, instrumentation, or controls within a food manufacturing or industrial setting. ·
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Ensure food safety compliance in all activities, report concerns promptly to
supervisors or managers.
2.Recommend and specify new automation systems and control solutions to
improve plant efficiency.
3.Maintain and troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems including PLCs, HMIs,
robotics, servos, sensors, and associated hardware.
4.Lead or support the design, programming, and installation of control systems
using Allen-Bradley or equivalent platforms.
5.Collaborate on continuous improvement projects and plant-wide modernization efforts.
6.Assist with the execution and management of capital projects under the direction
of the Director of Engineering.
7.Provide day-to-day support for the Engineering and Maintenance Department,
including documentation and scheduling.
8.Maintain accurate and detailed records of work performed, including updates to
schematics and software logs.
9.Promote a culture of teamwork, integrity, and proactive communication.
10.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (especially
Allen-Bradley hardware/software).
- Working knowledge of operator interfaces (HMIs), robotics, VFDs, and servo systems.
- Ability to interpret and modify electrical schematics and automation documentation.
- Strong capabilities in ladder logic, control narratives, and system integration.
- Experience using AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a cross-functional team
environment.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Schedule:
This position typically follows the hours of the shift scheduled to work; however, working days may vary based on season. Typically, Monday through Friday. Very often Saturday & 12 hours Shifts may be required during busy times.
Hours:
2nd Shift - 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM/
3rd Shift - 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
30 minutes unpaid lunch

Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for safety performance of job assignments and maintain good housekeeping.
Work from complicated drawings, specifications and sketches and can completely follow through on job assignments.
Install, operate test, calibrate, maintain, and repair various types of measurement and control instruments, electronic, mechanical, or pneumatic, either manual or automatic. These instruments record, indicate or control, heating value, humidity or dew point, specific gravity, temperature, combustible mixtures, flow, height, odorant, volume, liquid level, speed, weight, and time. Also included are analyzers (chemical, mechanical and electronic), telematics or remote transmission, alarms and safety devices, clocks, and regulators. Installs wells, tubing, and thermocouples.
Strong knowledge and understanding of the problems of gas measurement and control within the plants, metering stations and industrial supply runs, and can make adaptations of instruments for special jobs. Conducts all necessary test and instrument maintenance on such installations.

Must make reports for all repairs, tests inspections, and calibrations of instruments.
Must qualify as an operator of plant vehicles such as trucks (dump, flat, pick-up, forklift, bobcat and loader, etc.).
Clean and prepare surface (steel, wood, etc.) for painting by washing, scrubbing, wire brushing, scrapping, and chipping. Apply primer and finish coating.
Clean equipment, check oil, gas and water levels. Reports and defective parts that may need repairs on plant vehicles.
May have the ability to operate all mill workshop tools, band saw, chop box, table saw etc.
Must be able to assist in opening and closing hand valves.
Craft Specialty Work
Service and repair DCS equipment.
Calibrate and troubleshoot instruments loops.
Service analyzer and recording instruments.
Check and maintain combustible gas indicators.
Check and maintain plant odorization system
Maintain water and CO2 analyzers.
Install, set up and calibrate new devices.
Set-up, program and install plant transmitter as needed or required.
Maintain M&R station valves and regulations.
Operate various test equipment and plant system.
Check and maintain Scott freedom oxygen detectors plant wide.
Install, set-up and program Moore site-programmable volt and milliamp limit trip alarms.
Set-up and install chart recorders.
Maintain Sensit Gold Gas Detector, calibrate and repair.
Maintain manual loading stations.
Install and maintain Hazardous Detection System components.
Install, program and set-up smart process control instrumentation.
Note: Only those trained or certified in the following craft specialties may perform these tasks.

Must maintain current TWIC {Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
Must be current with OQ (Operator Qualification) to perform job duties and remain in compliance.
Able to work in inclement weather and general gas plant conditions.
Must be able to work in confined spaces when required.
Must be able to climb ladders/stairs and work at extreme heights when required.
Must be able to don/doff a full-face respirator when required.
Must be always clean shaven (PGW Respirator Readiness policy 007-10).
Must wear PPE (FR clothing, steel/composite toe work boots - no sneaker type, hard hat, safety glasses etc.-when required.
Must possess high reach, forklift, rigging and signaling training etc.
Must be knowledgeable of the Plant’s Emergency Alarm System.
Must be able to work extended hours and shifts if conditions are required.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must acquire and maintain a CDL License.
Certified Control Technician by the International Society of Automation {ISA) or similar preferred.
Promotion to this position requires demonstrated ability to perform the job functions. Must pass a written test and (Hands on Test).
This is a drug testing position.
