Job Description
The City of Renton is recruiting for Recreation Leaders to support our Adaptive Recreation Program. This program provides a variety of inclusive recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and the position is responsible for planning, preparing and implementing recreational activities and sports for Adaptive Recreation participants.
Recreation Leader 1: Assist and support Recreation Coordinator and other City staff as needed. Provide direct assistance to Recreation Leader 2 and 3 level employees with planning, preparing, and implementing recreational activities and sports for program participants. Responsible for the set-up of programs, security, and general cleaning of the facility.
Recreation Leader 2: Provide support to Recreation Coordinator and other city staff as needed to assist with planning, preparing, and implementing recreational activities and sports for program participants. May provide direction and oversight to Recreation Leader I level employees. Responsible for the set-up of programs, security, and general cleaning of the facility.
Recreation Leader 3: Provide direction to Recreation Leader 1/2 level employees. Provide support to, and collaborate with, Recreation Coordinator and other city staff as needed to assist with planning, preparing, and implementing recreational activities and sports for program participants. Responsible for the designated site location to ensure proper program set-up, security measures and the general cleaning of the facility.
Hourly Rates:
Recreation Leader 1: $21.57 per hour
Recreation Leader 2: $23.00 per hour
Recreation Leader 3: $26.00 per hour
**Placement at the Recreation Leader 1, 2, or 3 level, is dependent on years of experience and qualifications.
SUPERVISION:

Essential Functions:
- Plan, organize, and implement Adaptive Recreation athletic, social, group leisure activities, and special interest programs.
- Provide each participant with the opportunity to succeed and improve their social and physical skills through recreational activities.
- Assist with efforts to recruit and recognize volunteers assigned to assist in Adaptive Recreation programs.
- Provide volunteer direction as needed.
- Enforce program and facility discipline policies and safety guidelines.
- Assist with preparation and development of brochures, flyers, and promotional materials.
- Set up equipment as necessary, inspect recreational facilities and equipment to assure safe and proper working conditions, request required maintenance and repair.
- In coordination with a Recreation Coordinator or other Recreation Staff, complete requisitions for needed equipment, maintain adequate equipment inventories, and develop and recommend long-range programming equipment and supply needs.
- Observe necessary precautions to ensure general public safety, administer first aid for minor injuries as necessary, and follow department procedures in cases of more severe medical needs.
- Schedule classes, meetings and coordinates facilities operations.
- Assist in evaluating, planning and developing, modifying, adding, and/or deleting comprehensive community recreation and cultural programs and activities.
- Maintain communications and effective working relationships with City employees, government agencies, community organizations and groups, and the general public.
- Responsible for the designated site location to ensure proper security measures and setups.
- May assist with coordinating programs and special events.
- Assist with orientation training for new volunteers.
- Perform evening, weekend and/or holiday work as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Recreation Leader 1:
- At least 16 years of age.
- Must be able to successfully pass a required background check.
- Volunteer experience related to recreation preferred.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Minimum 2 years of previous work, or volunteer, experience related to the designated or assigned recreation program required.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Job Summary
The program assistant supports and assists with programs, facilities, services, and events within Parks and Community Services (PCS) and serves as a primary customer service agent.
This assignment is for a seasonal, ongoing, non-benefited on-call program assistant, to support year-round community building events including Lunar New Year, Dia de Los Muertos, Outdoor Summer Movie Series, Celebrate Kirkland July 4th Parade, Harvest Festival, and many other events hosted by PCS, plus the LED screen rental program. This position is anticipated to begin in February and be ongoing with hours varying, usually 15- 40 hours per week depending on need and is not to exceed 1040 hours per year. Most work will be done Monday-Friday at Kirkland City Hall, with occasional weekend or evening shifts primarily for events. The on-call program assistant must be available to work July 4 and the days immediately preceding and following the holiday.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, the capacity to prioritize tasks and work on a variety of projects with competing deadlines. Candidates should have the ability to be adaptable to new situations, ideas, and challenges and must be able to take initiative and work proactively. Must be self-motivated and work well as part of a supportive team.
This position will work closely with the Community Building Events team to help plan and carry out multiple events. Primary tasks include purchasing, vendor and parade entry support, volunteer recruitment and record keeping, marketing and outreach support, LED screen operation and other administrative functions.
The on-call program assistant is the primary contact for vendors, contractors, and volunteers to ensure logistical needs as well as contract terms and conditions are met.
The program assistant also serves as the on-site liaison for several events, facilitating the delivery and set-up of event equipment such as tables, chairs, pop-up canopies, marketing materials, audio-visual equipment and other supplies.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Parks and Community Services (PCS) program series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Program Coordinator in that the latter performs more complex technical duties and responsible program coordination requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.

- Coordinates training and scheduling of staff, volunteers, and interns; provides emergency backup staffing as needed.
- Creates and maintains instructor contracts and enters into the City's record management software. Coordinates the processing of contracts.
- Assists with the organization and production of department events (i.e. Green Kirkland Program, community building events, etc.).
- Assists with publicizing and promoting programs, program brochure preparation, and maintaining City webpages.
- Inventories, purchases, maintains, and organizes program supplies and equipment.

- Performs functions as assigned in the City's emergency response plan in the event of an emergency.

- Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
- Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of hire.
- 2 years of cashiering or bookkeeping experience preferred.

We are recruiting for two different programs our Summer Day Camp Program at the Highlands Neighborhood Center and our Summer Meals Program that operates at various Renton parks. Job Summary
The Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department is seeking Recreation Attendant staff for the North Kirkland Community Center. This position acts as on-site City representative for recreation programs and activities. Preschool Park Art and Play is an Art and play minicamp for ages 3-5. Crafts, games, exploring and free play at the playground. Each day will include a craft, story, and some active play. Minicamp is Tuesday-Thursday, July 7-August 13 9am to 2:30pm.
The role of the Recreation Attendant is to provide outstanding customer service and assist in providing operational support to recreation programs, facilities, and events within Parks and Community Services. Recreation Attendants serve as the on-site City representative and may work at City facilities, athletic fields, school gymnasiums, City parks, and/or off-site program locations. Recreation Attendants provide operational support including preparing spaces, assisting in leading and monitoring activities, and performing clerical work. Recreation Attendants aged 18 or older may work without on-site supervision.

Job Summary
Responsible for performing general firefighting and emergency medical care at fire and disaster scenes.
Essential Duties
- Responds to fire alarms with a company; lays and connects hose, holds nozzles and directs water stream; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines, and other equipment.
- Drives fire apparatus; operates pumps, and other auxiliary fire apparatus.
- Ventilates burning buildings by opening windows and skylights or cutting holes in roofs and floors.
- Removes persons from danger and administers emergency care to injured or ill persons.
- Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of department property, cleans and washes walls and floors, cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs, washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment.
- Performs salvage and overhaul operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water and removing debris.
- Participates in fire drills and attends classes in firefighting and emergency medical care.

The Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department is seeking Recreation Attendant staff for the North Kirkland Community Center. This position acts as on-site City representative for recreation programs, activities and rentals. Performs miscellaneous clerical, and registration tasks. Job Summary
Performs the functions of law enforcement necessary to maintain community interaction, public peace, protect life and property, prevent crime, apprehend violators of the law and otherwise assure proper enforcement of the laws and ordinances of the City of Kirkland and the State of Washington. Contribute to the apprehension of criminal suspects by conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations. This would involve contacting and interviewing witnesses and victims of a crime; sketching, photographing a crime scene; dusting for latent fingerprints; and collecting other evidence and preserving the chain of evidence. The position prepares criminal investigation reports and testifies in court.
**Applicants hired as a Lateral Police Officer for the Kirkland Police Department will receive a $25,000 incentive:
$5,000 to be paid on the first paycheck following the Lateral Officer's hire;
$10,000 to be paid after the Lateral Officer's successful completion of the field training program; and
$10,000 to be paid after the Lateral Officer's successful completion of the probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess the ability to read, write and speak fluent English. Must have the physical capability to successfully meet the Criminal Justice Training Commission Fitness Ability Test Battery. Must have successfully completed an accredited Police Basic Training Academy curriculum and have a minimum of 12 months full-time service in the last 60 months (prefer current) as a sworn municipal, county or state officer. Out of state laterals must complete the State Equivalency Academy. At time of hiring applicant must have a valid Washington State Drivers' License.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities
The working environment is characterized by the potential for physical, verbal and psychological assault by prisoners or individuals suspected of crime. Dependent on assignment and task, the work period may be eight to twelve hours a day. Other physical activities include, but are not limited to, operating a patrol vehicle, walking, running, or sitting at a workstation performing administrative tasks. The scope of work performed has the potential for other physical or cardiovascular exertion in the performance of duties. Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions and adverse conditions. Assignments may include but are not limited to Patrol, Investigations, Traffic, Training, Neighborhood Resource Officer, School Resource Officer, Pro-Act Unit, and K-9 after at least 12 months in patrol.
Collateral duty assignments available to commissioned officers are: Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Firearms Training Unit, Less Lethal Training Unit, Defensive Tactics, Bicycle Patrol, and Foot Patrol.

Must be available to work 8 or 10 hour rotating shifts.
Patrol Officers work four 10 hour shifts, followed by three days off. Officers work Monday - Thursday or Thursday - Sunday. Available shifts are days, swing, and nights, and are bid by seniority.

Job Summary
Entry level engineer/project construction administration providing support to the Capital Improvements Project Team. Assists experienced engineers/coordinators in developing project criteria, studies, plans, specifications, providing calculations, tracking budgets, reviewing construction documentation, and communication related to City Capital Projects.
Principal Accountabilities
Entry level non-supervisory engineer/construction administration. Reports to the Capital Projects Supervisor for coordinated work with experienced engineers and coordinators. Accountable for the follow tasks:
- Assists in various phases of City Capital Improvement Project work including contract administration, project management documentation, public outreach and accounting.
- Supports dissemination of project information to other City Groups and Divisions.
- Aids in the recording of construction records documentation.
Essential Functions
- Supports dissemination of project information by preparation of exhibits.
- Helps gather stakeholder requirements for technical specifications to promote quality assurance.
- Performs field reconnaissance when/as required.
- Assists staff in the review of construction documents including plans, specification and construction management documents through all stages of Public Works projects.
- Works with experienced engineers/coordinators and other staff to coordinate and document field changes.
- Maintains knowledge of current construction codes and changes in industry standards related to construction material and procedure developments.
- Aids in the preparation of project status reports for proper coordination and scheduling of projects.
- Assists with final acceptance report upon project completion.
Peripheral Duties
- Coordinates field activities of City projects with private and public utilities within Kirkland.
- Works with Maintenance and Operations on engineering issues.
- Reviews traffic control plans with the Traffic Engineer.
- Responds to public inquiries or complaints relating to construction activities, standards, administrative procedures, and requested improvements.
- Provides public counter and back-up telephone coverage. Provides information regarding the policy of the City in response to inquiries.
- Assists in maintaining and updating Kirkland Pre-Approved Plans for the Public Works Department.
- Conducts field inspection on an as needed basis to assist inspection staff when workload or absences dictate.
- Maintaining the CIP Group's Lessons Learned file.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
In the event of a civic or civil emergency, position will provide assistance as determined by the City's emergency operations program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work with staff, the public and general contractors in a knowledgeable and professional manner. Must have proficient research and documentation skills.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background that may be substituted as equivalent.
- Proficient in use of all office equipment including personal computers and related software applications.
- Valid Washington State driver's license.

Working Conditions
Primarily office work, but duties will require some field work both in street rights-of-way and on construction sites under varying weather conditions.
