McLean is currently seeking experienced crane operators to join our team in the Chesapeake, VA and Baltimore, MD regions. Selected applicants will work on a wide range of equipment from marine cranes, crawler cranes, and hydraulic cranes. Ideal candidates will possess the ability to safely and accurately operator and maintain assigned crane(s).
Candidates should have 5+ years of experience driving pile with different hammers, and experience using clamshell bucket. Current NCCCO LBC certification is required, and Friction crane operating experience is a plus!
Essential Skills
- Observe load rigging or hookup, determines safety of loads, operate within parameters of load chart.
- Places loads within fine tolerances, operates with skill using pile hammers, extractors and various bucket types.
- Manipulate or depress crane controls such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
- Operate in a smooth and controlled manner.
- Use hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, electromagnet, or bucket as load requires.
- Clean and maintain crane and hoisting mechanism.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and prepare engineering plans and designs for various crane improvement projects; estimate quantities and costs of such projects.
Assists consultants in the development of construction projects; issues work orders to consultants, surveyors and testing labs; reviews consultant's plans and specifications at various stages of development for conformance to design standards, completeness and accuracy; monitors consultant's cost estimates and verifies consultant's invoices and recommends payment.
Coordinates bid advertisements; schedules and assists in conducting pre-bid conferences; assists in evaluating bids and making recommendations for award of contract.
Schedules and assists in conducting pre-bid construction meetings with consultants, contractors and subcontractors; issues Notice to Proceed to contractors; reviews field inspection reports.
Assists in the preparation of schedules and monitors construction progress; assists in the preparation of change orders; maintains records of consultant's payments.
Assists in the inspection of projects for substantial completion and prepares punch list of any deficiencies; arranges for correction of defects by contractor during warranty period and conducts inspection at end of warranty period to ensure correction of defects.
Prepares required paperwork for capitalizing and closing the project; performs special investigations, sites analyses and feasibility studies as required and submits technical and management reports.

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused drill rig operator to join our team. Operator will be responsible for drilling shaft footings for overhead sign structures throughout the metro area. Our footing vary from 30' - 60' in diameter and 12' - 40' deep. Infrequently some in state travel will be required. Your day will generally start and end at our shop in Eagan.

We are seeking a Crane Service Technician – Level 2 or Level 3 to join our Boise/Twin Falls location. This position is ideal for experienced technicians with strong mechanical and electrical skills who are ready to take on more complex service tasks. SUMMARY
As a Mechanic (Class B), this position is responsible for repairing and maintaining company-owned equipment. The Mechanic is accountable for diagnosing issues and making necessary adjustments, repairs, or overhauls on various heavy machinery used in heavy civil, railroad, and marine construction.

- Plan and schedule regular maintenance for industrial machines and equipment. Maintain accurate equipment service records.
- Conduct planned maintenance by examining parts for damage or excessive use, repairing and replacing damaged or worn parts, cleaning, lubricating, assembling, and testing equipment to ensure operational efficiency. May install batteries and windows on specific equipment.
- Diagnose and examine faults or malfunctions in equipment to determine repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized tests and calibration devices.
- Order materials and supplies needed for repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Test mechanical equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with the manufacturer’s specifications, which may include the assembly of gear systems, aligning frames and gears on heavy equipment, and/or fitting the proper bearings for mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be willing/eligible to obtain one upon hire. Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Experience: Five (5) years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, hydraulic cranes, and friction cranes.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Select and check cutting tools according to program specifications, ensuring they are the correct type, length, diameter, and in good condition before installation.
Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including cutter offsets, tool heights, and probes, using appropriate measuring tools.
Run CNC programs to machine rough and precision cut parts, monitoring machine operations for unusual vibrations, sounds, or warning indicators.

Perform safety checks on machines, ensuring the area is clear of obstacles, power switches are off, and safety guards are installed.
Move heavy materials, equipment, tools, and dies to the work area using stackers, Kalamar, die loaders, or overhead cranes, asking for assistance as needed.
Check steam lines for cracks or cuts and verify o-rings are properly seated prior to hookup.
Preheat dies and punches using electricity or steam, and verify temperature accuracy for hot dies with a temperature stick or pyrometer.
Determine machine setup by reviewing work orders, tooling usage instructions, and die setup charts, making adjustments as required.
Load and secure dies into the press, checking for defects and torquing as necessary.
Examine tools, dies, and fixtures for damage, separating them using appropriate handling procedures.
Set up press cycle programs using control panels or manual switches to adjust height, stroke, pressure, and cycle time.
Develop patterns when necessary, cutting and tailoring materials like fiberglass and graphite to die requirements.
Perform pull-outs on various types of metal and alloy tubes using a hydraulic tube pull-out machine.
Verify that materials are free from burrs and debris, using hand deburring tools and denatured alcohol prior to forming operations.
Consult with Team Lead and other personnel (e.g., engineering, planning, inspection) on process or job-related issues as required.
Maintain a written tie-in book or electronic communication to coordinate with other shifts and dispose of hazardous materials in an approved manner.
