EXPERIENCE
Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line recommended, but none required. SPECIAL SKILLS
CRNA's must have sharp concentration and focus, along with the ability to stay calm under stressful conditions. CRNAs must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with surgeons and the surgical support team, as well as with patients and their families. A calm and reassuring manner is one way to inspire trust in patients, who may be apprehensive about surgery, as well as the surgical team. Anesthetic patient management must be immediate and responsive. Flexibility and adaptability are required.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
A CRNA must be able to demonstrate intellectual-conceptual, integrative and quantitative abilities; skills in observation, communication and motor functions; and mature behavioral and social attributes. Sensory- CRNA must be able to detect and interpret changes in monitoring alarms and equipment. Functional vision, hearing. no impairment of sense of smell and tactile sensation must be adequate. CRNA must be able to observe a patient accurately at a distance and close.Communication-CRNA should be able to speak, hear and observe. CRNA must be able to communicate effectively- includes speech, reading and writing.Motor -CRNA should have sufficient motor function to elicit pertinent information. CRNAs should be able to stand for long periods of time and wear lead as needed for fluoroscopy, X-Ray cases. CRNAs must have the ability to lift 25 pounds and reach above and below shoulder height. CRNA must be able to negotiate patient care environments and be able to move self/patients between anesthesia locations. Coordination of both gross and fine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional use of the senses of touch and vision is required. Intellectual-Conceptual, Integrative and Quantitative Abilities-Abilities include measurement, calculation, reasoning, analysis and synthesis. Problem-solving, the critical skill demanded requires all of these intellectual abilities. CRNA should be able to comprehend 3-dimensional relationships and understand the spatial relationships. Behavioral and Social Attributes -CRNA must possess the emotional health required for full utilization of intellectual abilities, the exercise of good judgment, the prompt completion of responsibilities. CRNA must be able to tolerate physically taxing workloads and to function effectively under stress and able to adapt to changing environments, display flexibility and learn to function in the face of uncertainties inherent in the clinical problems of many patients.

Direct Patient Care:

- Independently manage patients with multi-organ system failure, acute respiratory failure, shock states, complex arrhythmia, sepsis, post-operative complications, and advanced hemodynamic instability.
- Perform and interpret bedside diagnostics, including Point of Care Ultrasound, EKGs, hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator waveforms, and radiographic studies.
- Initiate and titrate medications, including vasoactive agents, sedatives, analgesics, antiarrhythmics, insulin infusion, and critical drips according to protocols and patient condition.
- Provide end-of-life support and assist with goals-of-care conversations, in collaboration with attending intensivists.
Procedures (as credentialed)
- Perform ICU procedures, including:
- Central Venous Catheter Placement
- Arterial line placement
- Temporary pacing wire management (CV surgery patients)
- Chest tube/mediastinal drain management and/or removal
- Intubation and airway management
- Bedside ultrasound-guided procedures (paracentesis, thoracentesis, vascular access)
- Swan-Ganz catheter interpretation and management (if applicable for CV surgery ICU)
- Manage advanced devices such as IABP, Impella, CRRT, and ECMO in collaboration with specialists (based on your hospital’s scope).
Night Coverage & Collaborative Decision-Making
- Collaborates with the intensivist to provide overnight care for both NSCCU and CVICU, responding rapidly to changes in patient condition.
- Communicate significant overnight changes to the daytime multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity and safe handoff.
- Triaging with intensivist urgent consults from ED, floors, and post-operative areas for potential ICU admission.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Partner with intensivists, cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and dietitians to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
- Collaborate with CV surgery teams regarding post-operative protocols, including management of chest tubes, pacing wires, anticoagulation, hemodynamics, and early complication recognition.
- Support bedside nurses with real-time clinical decision-making, hemodynamic adjustments, and emergent interventions.
Rounding, Handoff, and Documentation
- Participate in structured evening rounds, ensuring accurate and thorough transitions of care.
- Complete timely, clear, and compliant documentation, procedure notes, critical care time, and billing within the EHR.
- Update families when clinically appropriate and ensure communication of changes to daytime providers.
Quality, Safety, and Protocol Adherence
- Adhere to and help optimize ICU evidence-based protocols, including:
- Ventilator liberation
- Sepsis management
- Glycemic control
- DVT and stress ulcer prophylaxis
- Early mobility and sedation minimization
- Identify and escalate safety concerns, near misses, or system issues to leadership.
- Participate in ICU quality initiatives, morbidity & mortality reviews, and performance improvement projects.

The Theranostics Center at Banner - University Medical Center and The University of Arizona - Tucson is designated as a Comprehensive Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Center of Excellence.
- Nuclear Medicine is offered at all 3 Tucson locations: BUMC-T, BUMC-S, and BUMC-N. Scanners include Siemens Bold and Intevo SPECT/CT’s, GE Discovery 640 SPECT/CT, Siemens Gamma Evo, two GE 530c’s for dedicated cardiac imaging, and a GE Discovery MI Digital PET/CT, GE Omni Legend 32 cm PET CT.
- The division offers a variety of studies including oncology, and advanced general nuclear medicine imaging such as brain metabolism/perfusion, myocardial perfusion and gating, bone, liver, lung, GI, sentinel lymph node, and Dopamine transporter imaging.

- The division offers Theranostic services including 131I, 223Ra, and 177Lu, for both FDA-approved PET tracers and research protocols. In addition, we offer 90Y liver ablation therapies in conjunction with IR.

Department Overview
The Department of Medical Imaging is one of 17 clinical departments in the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson that provides medical care through Banner University Health. The clinical caseload serves as an excellent resource for our training programs, which includes both Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Residencies, and multiple accredited fellowship training programs. Medical Imaging supports an ACGME accredited Nuclear Radiology/PET-CT Fellowship Program approved for 2 candidates.
Medical Imaging serves the two main hospitals, Banner University Medical Center – Tucson, BUMC-T (479 licensed beds) and Banner University Medical Center – South, BUMC-S (150 licensed beds), and the Diamond Children’s Medical Center, as well as two outpatient centers: Banner University Medicine-North, BUMC-N, and the Advanced Breast Imaging Center, ABIC.
Job Qualifications:
Prospective candidates, Assistant, Associate or full Professor (appointment rank is commensurate with experience), will have an MD or DO degree, and dedicated training in nuclear medicine including board certification by ABNM and/or ABR/NR with ABNM eligibility and is or eligible to become Authorized User of Radioisotopes. The candidate will be eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona.
The ideal applicant will have expertise in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging including different PET tracers, radiopharmaceutical therapies and procedures, both from clinical and scientific perspectives. Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval. Prepare, coordinate and execute all staff communications; prepare huddle agendas and lead meeting. Determine staffing needs; make nursing assignments as well as assign overtime. Recommend effective annual increases. Interview staff for open positions; evaluate and conduct performance reviews as assigned; draft and issue corrective actions/coaching; follow up regarding any disciplinary action to determine compliance.
* Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations on areas of improvement if needed.

Position Details:
- Day Shift Hours: 4 days @ 10 hour shifts (6:15am-4:45pm)

The Radiation Oncology Department utilizes a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, including 9 vaults; a full brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical suite; a Gamma Knife center; two independent proton treatment machines; two CT simulators and a dedicated MR unit. The department supports radiation therapy training programs and a medical dosimetry program via affiliations with local universities.
