The C53 Spine Surgery, Neurology Medicine & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is a 14-bed, all private room neurosciences specialty unit at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, a five-time designated Magnet® Hospital. C53 nurses work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide high-quality, patient-centered, specialty care to neurological patients, postoperative neurosurgical patients with brain and spine disorders and general medicine patients, as well as specialized epilepsy monitoring patients.
MedStar Georgetown’s neuroscience specialty centers and programs include our:
- Multidisciplinary Spine Center, offering advanced treatment for spinal cord tumors, spine cancer, neck disorders and degenerative conditions, often through minimally invasive surgical techniques or CyberKnife
- Epilepsy Center, a comprehensive program for evaluation and treatment of epilepsy including diagnosis, drug therapy, and epilepsy surgery
- National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence for Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders for specialized evaluation and treatments, including deep brain stimulation

Integrated Spine is a newly integrated inpatient spine unit that consolidates neurologic and orthopedic spine patients into one location. This allows for high-quality, standardized care for all patients regardless of surgeon specialty. This unit is the newest addition to the surgical services team and provides an opportunity for nurses to help build this unique unit. Nurses on this unit will become adept in both the neurologic and orthopedic realms of nursing as they will care for patients who undergo a wide variety of surgical procedures. We specialize in treatment of degenerative spine conditions, traumatic spinal injuries, complex spinal reconstructive surgeries, spinal tumors, and spinal revision surgeries.

Job Summary and QualificationsAs a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty.
