Full Stack Engineer, Flourish
Full-Time, New York City
The Opportunity
Our mission is to provide innovative access to financial products that help RIAs secure their clients' financial futures and the Flourish Engineers play a key role in doing just that. We're seeking backend and full-stack engineers to help build a scalable platform. Cross functional collaboration is key to success and you will collaborate with teams across the organization, including Product, Design, Operations and Risk.
You will develop an understanding of at least one business line and partner with product managers and fellow engineers to solve complex business problems with software and deliver commercially feasible solutions. Working with other engineers, you will bring ideas from the whiteboard to reality, providing input to key architectural decisions, extending existing features, developing entirely new services and applications, and performing code reviews. You have working knowledge of distributed systems and application service frameworks, and are excited to work throughout the tech-stack to deliver a delightful experience for customers and coworkers.
The Team
Since 2017, Flourish has been on a mission to help financial advisors evolve from holistic advice to holistic implementation to more fully serve their clients and achieve better outcomes. We focus on independent Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), delivering financial products that advisors can't easily access today through beautiful, scalable, and easy-to-use technology.
Today, we work with over 900 RIAs that collectively represent more than $1.6T in assets under management across two products — Flourish Annuities and Flourish Cash — and with our recent acquisition of Sora Finance, we'll be adding a lending offering in 2026. Headquartered in New York City, we are an independently-operating, wholly-owned subsidiary of MassMutual Life Insurance Company.
Read on if you are interested in joining a small, highly-collaborative, rapidly-growing startup—backed by the support and stability of a Fortune 500 company.
The Impact
You are an engineer, first and foremost. You can rapidly build products that will delight users, with best practices in terms of both development and security. You thrive in a work environment that requires strong problem solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication. You are a strong communicator, explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you.
You possess strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval. And finally, your accomplishments are much more important than your paper credentials.
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or Engineering or equivalent working experience

- Strong experience designing and building distributed systems
- 3+ years experience programming in Python, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript
- Solid understanding of modern database technology (Redis, Postgres, RedShift, BigQuery)

HVAC/Plumbing Engineer
Experience Required: 3–5 Years Salary: $70,000 – $85,000 (Commensurate with experience)
About the Organization
Founded in 2013, our organization is a full-service engineering firm specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Fire Alarm systems. We pride ourselves on being a high-growth, agile organization with a "zero-bureaucracy" philosophy. Our team is close-knit, friendly, and dedicated to maintaining a peaceful, collaborative work environment. We offer a wide range of services, including energy recovery systems, radiant flooring, complex site and sewer connections, and detailed construction administration.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and independent HVAC/Plumbing Engineer to join our growing team. Unlike roles at larger firms where you may act as an assistant, this position requires an engineer with "hands-on" experience capable of designing systems independently. You will manage projects across multiple disciplines internally while serving as the primary point of coordination for architects, contractors, and local city agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Design: Independently design HVAC and Plumbing systems using AutoCAD, ensuring all designs meet project specifications and applicable energy conservation codes.
- Project Management: Handle multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing the project lifecycle from initial design through to construction administration.
- Internal Coordination: Lead coordination between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines within the firm.
- External Liaison: Coordinate directly with external stakeholders, including architects and contractors, and navigate approval processes with relevant city agencies.
- Construction Administration: Manage RFIs, submittals, amendments, as-builts, and conduct field visits and punch lists.
Requirements
- Professional Experience: 3–5 years of professional MEP design experience.
- Regional Expertise: A minimum of 1 year of experience specifically on projects based in our major metropolitan area is required.
- Technical Mastery: Must be highly proficient in AutoCAD and able to design HVAC systems independently rather than as an assistant to a lead engineer.
- Code Knowledge: Strong familiarity with local energy conservation codes and building regulations.
- Multidisciplinary Skills: While HVAC and Plumbing are the core focus, additional experience in Sprinkler or Electrical systems is a significant plus.
- Soft Skills: We are looking for professionals who are easy to work with, friendly, and thrive in a supportive, close-knit team environment.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary Structure: $70,000 – $85,000 base. Higher compensation is available for candidates with broader multi-discipline design experience and additional years of tenure.
- Vacation: Generous vacation days and closure on all major holidays.
- Future Growth: We are a growing company and are actively working toward implementing a group medical plan in the near future.
- Environment: A supportive, low-bureaucracy office where your contributions are highly visible and valued.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, or related Engineering
