The J.D. and LL.M. programs host a diverse and constantly evolving curriculum. Hundreds of courses are offered, including dozens in our top-ranked Law and Technology, Business Law, International Law, Environmental Law, and Social Justice programs.



This pool encompasses courses in litigation and transactional lawyering skills, including negotiation, pre-trial practice, civil trial practice, criminal trial practice, appellate advocacy, legal writing, drafting, legal research, alternative dispute resolution, oral advocacy, mediation, and other related professional practice education. These courses are taught experientially, using extensive simulation, video, and other "learning by doing" pedagogies.



Instructors for lecture courses are appointed in the Lecturer title; instructors for experiential center courses are appointed to the Field Work Supervisor title. The applicant selected will have important teaching responsibilities, including preparing course materials (such as the syllabus) and maintaining a course website, and will also be expected to hold office hours, assess and offer feedback on student work, assign grades, and advise students.



UC Lecturers and Field Work Supervisors are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by the American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.



Qualifications

* J.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., LL.M. or Master's degree, or equivalent international degree, and a minimum of three years of professional experience in either legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching, in the United States, or

* Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years professional experience in either legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching, in the United States.

* Availability to teach in-person during required law school class times.



Preferred qualifications

* Experience teaching courses in a United States law school, with outstanding student valuations; and/or

* Five or more years of legal practice experience in the United States or another jurisdiction, in the area of experiential education.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

All officers perform the following essential functions. Time devoted to each of these functions may vary according to assignment, shift, or departmental needs. May be assigned to recruit and/or Cadet development, including instruction and application of laws, department rules and policies, proper use and maintenance of equipment, and proper safety techniques. Evaluates and reports progress of recruit officers. Utilizes computers in research, report writing, booking prisoners, crime investigation, communications and other related functions. Performs administrative functions such as providing input into short or long term goals, training, budget, scheduling, equipment, and other special concerns. Special assignments are defined by the Chief of Police and consist of work of a specialized nature performed on a full time basis for an extended period of time. These assignments are responsible to perform the essential functions of Police Officer, but with considerable special emphasis in certain of these functions during their special assignment and they may also require additional skills or training. Special assignments currently consist of Detective, Motorcycle Officer, Canine Officer, School Resource Officer, and Community Livability Officer.
