Qualifications and Skills:

• Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing environment, with a strong hands-on presence.
• Die Casting experience is required.
• Experience in metal stamping or injection molding.
• Demonstrated success managing skilled trades or tool room teams.
• Strong working knowledge of tooling processes, tool & die repair/build, and manufacturing best practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate with urgency and clarity.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites within the U.S. on an occasional basis (a few times per year).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tooling Warehouse Manager is responsible for controlling, maintaining, and optimizing all tools, equipment, and related inventory that support field operations. This role ensures that crews have the proper tools in proper condition while controlling costs and reducing downtime. This role also ensures that all company and government regulated safety standards are met.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

• Manages all current and incoming tooling inventory supporting transmission, distribution, and substation crews. Maintains accurate counts of hot-line tools, rubber goods, rigging, hand tools, power tools, and transmission equipment.
• Tracks tool condition, certifications, and replacement cycles, and coordinates testing and recertification as required.
• Administers and maintains the Yardz asset management system.
• Stocks and outfits line trucks, bucket trucks, diggers, and service vehicles based on crew type, customer specifications, and project scope.
• Works with multiple vendors to procure new tooling, replacement parts, PPE, rubber goods, and rigging. Coordinates specialty tooling rentals as needed and maintains strong vendor relationships to support pricing and availability.
• Maintains working knowledge of small engine repair and upkeep, including chainsaws, generators, air compressors, hydraulic power units, and pumps. Coordinates repairs internally or through third-party vendors and manages service schedules.
• Supervises and leads a warehouse team of 3–5 employees. Assigns daily responsibilities, provides coaching and performance feedback, and ensures safe work practices and compliance within the warehouse and yard.
• Maintains constant engagement with field leadership, including General Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers. Supports urgent tooling needs, storm mobilizations, and jobsite deliveries and returns.
• Oversees organization, storage, and security of the warehouse and laydown yard, including poles, wire, hardware, reel stands, and construction materials.
• Ensures all tooling and equipment meet OSHA, ASTM, IEEE, and company safety standards. Maintains inspection documentation and supports safety audits as needed.
• Prepares reports as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Description

Develop and support safety and continuous improvement activities by overseeing the tooling/fixture procurement process from design through build, including the supervision of tool makers & a broach bar technician. Investigate and order tools approved by your supervisor

Once a job is designed any changes should be approved by the supervisor

Rebuild and rework all tooling as needed

Build or assist in building of new tooling when needed

Keep all machines clean & maintained and report possible problems

Keep all tools, fixtures, benches & floors clean and free of oil

Works from prints, specifications, charts, formulae, drawings, sketches, written and verbal

Order, instructions, and request

Uses precision measuring instruments, including but not limited to, micrometers, vernier

calipers, depth and various other gauges, indicators, rule, square, surface plate, and also a

variety of hand tools

Sets up and operates a normal range of machinery and equipment such as but not limited to:

single and multi-spindled drill presses, surface and wet grinders, saw, lathes, milling machines

and other similar type machines

Selects, adjusts, changes, replaces and sharpens tools, cutters, holders, jigs, fixtures, etc

Adjusts speeds, feeds, travel of parts; set and adjust stops, limits, guides, etc

Fabricates various die parts, sections, inserts, punches, etc

Makes necessary tool and die tryouts

Disassembles as required, grind using special fixtures and holding devices, reassemble;

replaces punches, stripper springs, stops, inserts, etc

Maintains inventory of most commonly used parts, tools, materials, and items

Informs supervisor of low inventories. Maintain all maintenance records for dies

Reviews returned dies and items leaving tool room

Compares to prints, specifications, and work requests

Assures compliance to work standards, specifications, and prints

Performs machine maintenance to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various mechanical

problems

Detects and reports defective and unsafe equipment and material as well as unusual situations

to supervisor

Observes and obeys all safety rules, practices, and procedures. Wear and employ personal

protective equipment as required

Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner

Performs other similar or related duties as required or requested
