Neuroradiology, comprises highly trained Radiologists, Radiologic Technologists and Registered Nurses who work as a team to perform complex procedures such as cerebral angiography, myelography, stent placements and aneurysm coilings and embolizations. The Radiology Department at the Washington University Medical Center is regarded as one of the top five in the United States. It performs over 453,000 diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures annually.

Summary:
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive procedures in the IR lab. This role involves pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, sedation administration, and post-procedure recovery management. - Perform comprehensive pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing medical history and lab results
- Educate patients and families about IR procedures, sedation, and post-procedure care
- Administer and monitor moderate sedation, ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and oxygenation levels during procedures
- Assist physicians during procedures, ensuring proper positioning, sterile technique, and instrument handling
- Recognize and respond to complications, escalating care when necessary
- Provide post-procedure monitoring and recovery care, including pain management and patient discharge education
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, medications, and procedural details
- Collaborate with IR technologists, radiologists, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated care
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
