Job Description: 

L3Harris has an opportunity for a highly skilled Thermal Analyst to join our talented engineering organization. The Thermal Analyst will be a technical leader across multidisciplinary teams of engineers to create the best overall system design including thermal design, analysis, and test of optical systems operating in harsh space and ground environments. The candidate will possess in-depth understanding of aerospace thermal engineering technology and payload architectures for spacecraft sub-systems and instruments. These talents are used to direct and oversee teams who specialize in conductive, convective, and radiative analyses, understanding of heat pipes, radiative heat transfer, and thermal control hardware design (thermal blankets, surface treatments, heater tapes, thermistors) and the interaction with optical structures in order to minimize optical errors, and achieve operational temperatures. The role requires utilizing state of the art custom software in conjunction with Thermal Desktop and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) packages and often mentor other Thermal Analysts in the use of such tools.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • System level thermal design & development, payload level integration and test, and risk mitigation for space-based environments
  • Perform thermal design and analysis tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision mechanisms, electro-mechanical devices, aerospace mechanism design, complex electronics packaging, supporting space-based deployable mechanisms, avionics, innovative thermal and ground based systems
  • Create and analyze design concepts using thermal analysis software & FEA
  • Defines and establishes the technical approach to meet assigned objective
  • Directs, coordinates and provides assistance to engineering team in order to meet assigned objectives
  • Program support also includes requirements derivation and verification, system architecture development, loads derivation, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design analysis, generation of analysis documentation (including presentation materials, and deliverable data packages), and leading system test activities
  • Organization of thermal design and analysis as an IPT lead; frequently interfacing directly with customer technical leads and management.
  • Prepares reports, formal documentation and presentation materials summarizing analysis results and present results to both external and internal groups, including leadership and customers
  • Participates in and present information for Preliminary Design reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR) and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM)
  • Interfaces with outside suppliers/customers and other engineering disciplines to drive designs to closure (Structural, Systems Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing, Performance, Quality, Configuration Management)

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
  • 7+ years of professional experience using thermal analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop (preferred), Sinda, Flotherm, Icepak, etc.
  • 4+ years of providing technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary mechanical engineering team through system requirements, design, analysis, test, hardware build, delivery and launch
  • Professional experience with thermal analysis of mechanical and electronic systems, in space, air or ground environments
  • Professional experience with thermal vacuum testing
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory ( ) seeks self-motivated and talented individuals to participate in and support operations of a research laboratory. Our mission is to develop and translate approaches, devices, algorithms, and agents with clinical impact based on a synergistic combination of biomedical imaging, image-guided therapy, and bionanotechnology. Overall, we are a collaborative, full-spectrum research group leading the discovery, development, and integration of biomedical imaging technologies and theranostic agents for both fundamental research and clinical applications.

The Ultrasound Imaging and Therapeutics Research Laboratory is part of the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University School of Medicine.

The research engineer will provide technical oversight of the research laboratory operations focused on in-vitro/preclinical/clinical imaging. The responsibilities will include daily interactions with graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical collaborators, and other researchers, technical and other support to research staff, and direct reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Designing and fabricating electro-mechanical systems;
  • Facilitate construction and maintenance of custom lab equipment (ultrasound transducers and imaging systems, laser systems, motorized linear axis and robotic positioners, etc.);

  • Analyze and interpret large Robot Framework keyword libraries and enable reuse within Python-based executions.
  • Optimize hybrid execution models involving both Pytest and Robot Framework assets.
  • Develop wrapper layers, fixtures, utilities, and reusable automation components.
  • Independently debug complex cross-layer automation issues spanning Python, Robot Framework, QNX OS, and device-level tools.
  • Integrate automation frameworks with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Execute and maintain UI and device automation using Appium, Selenium, or equivalent tools.
  • Enforce modular test design principles, including page-object and page-keyword patterns, to ensure long-term automation maintainability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and uphold automation design, coding standards, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Python automation and Pytest.
  • Strong practical experience with Robot Framework, including keywords, resources, variables, and test structuring.
  • Proven experience managing and maintaining large keyword repositories (1000+ keywords).
  • Experience working with QNX OS, POSIX systems, Hypervisor-based virtualization, and Cloud environments (AWS).
  • Solid understanding of Git version control, branching strategies, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with UI and device automation tools such as Appium and Selenium.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mobility, embedded systems, aviation, or high-volume regression environments.
  • Exposure to automation framework migration, cross-framework interoperability, or keyword reuse models.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Engineering, or a related field.
