The Role

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) owns and facilitates tasks as outlined by the Project Manager or Project Executive, within the projects assigned.


Assistant Project Managers provide support and communication for successful project completion. APM’s provide a focus on the day-to-day details of these projects, including relaying correspondence between field and office (both internally and externally), ordering equipment, and managing project documentation. These duties help the Project Manager/Project Executive ensure that the schedule and project goals for the job are met. The Assistant Project Manager’s duties and responsibilities may be specialized toward HVAC and Plumbing Plan Spec type projects, Design/Build type projects or a combination of both depending on the experience and qualifications of the individual.

  • Work with the department leader on business/personal development plan
  • Develop submittal packages and check for accuracy compared to drawings and building standards.
  • Draft equipment POs and check for accuracy compared to drawings, submittals, quotes, and building standards.
  • Update equipment procurement logs.
  • Track delivery of equipment orders.
  • Understand construction schedules and how they were developed.
  • Assess drawing updates and determine if there are scope impacts.
  • Coordinate with the field, client, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Understand the basics of estimating.

Job Summary

Entry level engineer/project construction administration providing support to the Capital Improvements Project Team. Principal Accountabilities

Job Summary
The Capital Projects Coordinator is considered a journey level classification and performs engineering, architecture, construction management and/or project management responsibilities. This professional level position plans, budgets, and schedules all aspects of the parks, facilities, utilities and transportation capital improvements, as well as other City Funded/sponsored projects of basic to mid-level complexity. The position administers consultant contracts; coordinates design reviews, environmental reviews, coordinates property and permit acquisitions; coordinates building and contract awards; monitors construction contract progress and ensures proper project closeouts.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished from the senior-level of the series in that assigned projects are performed under the direction, and with the assistance of, a Senior Capital Project Coordinator or Senior Project Engineer.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinates and/or attends planning meetings to determine objectives, program plan and projects scopes.
  • Develops and negotiates schedules for design and construction, monitors and coordinates activities of contractors, consultants, committees, community organizations, and users during construction.
  • Coordinates consultant selection process. Prepares negotiates and administers consultant agreements.
  • Negotiates contracts for design and construction of projects.
  • Assists in developing contract and project specifications.
  • Coordinates review of design and construction work performed by consultants and contractors.
  • Monitors and evaluates project construction costs and schedules to ensure timely progress and compliance to specifications and budgetary restrictions.
  • Reviews and clears for approval contractor payments.
  • Prepares and processes contract change orders.
  • Verifies accuracy of product and service invoices and project accounting.
  • Coordinates project closeout and budget reconciliation and evaluation.
  • Plans capital improvement and other City funded/sponsored projects by preparing necessary documents, providing description of project objectives, participant responsibilities and project methodologies.
  • Prepares memos, reports, correspondence, advertisements, and official documents.
  • Assists in the development of citizen participation plans to inform and explain project objectives and answer questions from the public, media and other agencies.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned.
  • Provides technical support for negotiations on interagency or local agreements
  • Prepares cost and scheduling analysis reports for multiple projects and acts as technical resource to superiors on project schedule and budget.
  • Provides project oversight on assigned projects from conception to implementation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning or related field.
  • Experience: 4 years project or construction management or related experience.
  • Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to remain insurable under the City's insurance to operate motor vehicles.
  • Additional license(s) and/or certifications such as CA, EIT, LA, AIA, AICP, LEED, PMP, CCM, CCMA are desired.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Primarily office work, but the position also involves visiting construction sites under varying weather conditions. Potential hazards at construction sites include vehicular traffic, construction equipment, and uneven terrain.
The position may require climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working in trenches or other confined spaces.
This position encounters foot hazards as defined by the WAC, which may include any of the following: falling objects, rolling objects, piercing/cutting injuries, or electrical hazards.

Role description:

Arcadis is currently seeking a Roadway Project Design Engineer to join our team in Baton Rouge or Metairie, Louisiana. This position is an exciting opportunity for you to join our local Roadway team with support from one of the best qualified consulting firms in the country. In this role, you will assist in the technical design and plan production for projects of varying sizes. You will also assist in the day-to-day management of small to mid-size projects for our clients in Louisiana as well as throughout the nation.

Role accountabilities:

  • Assist the development and design of infrastructure projects for roadways, including intersections, collector streets, urban arterials, rural and urban expressways, interstates and interstate interchanges
  • Perform different roles on multi-disciplined projects including planning, technical design of minor project, production lead, task leader and assisting Project Manager and lead engineers
  • Assist in developing project scopes and budgets,
  • Interface with and maintenance of client needs for the Project Manager,
  • Mentor and development of junior staff and design/drafters,
  • Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices including quality and safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years’ work experience, with 4 of these years’ work experience on LADOTD projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineers License

Key Skill/Attributes:

  • Planning and/or Engineering experience with infrastructure, which may include environmental document preparation, cost estimates, technical reports, construction plans and project displays.
  • Proficiency with CAD particularly Microstation and OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with LADOTD design standards and policies.
  • Interpersonal and client facing requirements will require someone with excellent, clear and concise, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute information to meetings, assist with effective client presentations and prepare written reports and meeting minutes.
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple unique assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and be a self-motivated, team-oriented and flexible individual who possess the initiative and ability to tackle new projects, challenges, and concepts.
  • Prefer experience in a client facing role, either as a team or individual, making presentations and managing client expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years’ project management experience on LADOTD projects
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations.
  • Louisiana PE
