About the Role
As an Offset Second Press Operator, youβll play a critical role in delivering exceptional print quality, ensuring client satisfaction, and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment. Working closely with the First Press Operator, youβll assist with press make-readies, equipment operation, and quality control while providing leadership and guidance to the press crew. This position is key to achieving productivity, quality, and safety goals.
What Youβll Do
- Follow all standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
- Verify job specifications, including paper size, color, ink, and other details.
- Monitor color and registration accuracy with demonstrated proficiency.
- Inspect printed sheets and make adjustments to correct spacing, ink distribution, and other quality issues.
- Assist in plate changes and press adjustments as needed.
- Re-thread paper and adjust tension rollers when web breaks occur.
- Provide training, direction, and support to junior crew members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
- Contribute ideas for process improvements and collaborate with supervisors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to work irregular schedules, including rotating day/night shifts.
- Ability to maintain close attention to detail for extended periods.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work overtime as mandated by production needs.
- Physical requirements:
- Lift 10β15 lbs continuously and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Stand for long hours and use hands/wrists in controlled movements.
- Use vision to identify defects and follow instructions accurately.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts (7 AMβ7 PM or 7 PMβ7 AM), including days, nights, weekends, and overtime.
Preferred Experience
- 2-3 years of previous experience operating offset presses.Β
- Experience with Harris, Heidelberg, Goss, and/or Manroland Offset Presses is preferred, but we will consider all candidates with press experience.
- Strong understanding of press operations and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret job orders and follow detailed instructions.
- Basic math skills related to press operations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for issues like tension, ink distribution, and web breaks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead and mentor team members.

About the Role
As an Offset First Press Operator , you'll play a critical role in operating and maintaining the press equipment, while guiding the crew to meet and exceed production standards, while delivering exceptional print quality, ensuring client satisfaction, and maintaining a safe, efficient work environment
What You'll Do
* Operate and maintain the press and all auxiliary equipment.
* Direct and guide crew members to achieve productivity and quality goals.
* Keep accurate records of delay time during the shift.
* Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Perform press set-up and maintenance procedures.
* Troubleshoot unit, folder, reel, and stacker problems with minimal delay.
* Maintain proper ink and water balance and monitor ink densities per customer specifications.
* Maintain a list of maintenance issues for scheduled service and assign tasks during maintenance periods.
* Check and set rollers; replace as needed.
* Communicate with supervisors to prioritize and resolve issues.
* Read and follow job tickets, including special instructions, ink colors, and paper specifications.
* Perform maintenance during downtime and plan ahead for multi-color make-readies.
* Promote and enforce safety, 6S, and Lean programs.
* Train and develop pressroom personnel; assist supervisors with evaluations and process improvements.
* Facilitate teamwork across crews and shifts.
* Attend operator meetings and stay current on new processes.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Quad is currently seeking a Second Press Operator to work in the Pewaukee, Wisconsin plant. It is the job of the 2nd Press Operator to assist in performing functions to support the operation of printing presses in the following areas: set up, color quality, makes color adjustments, ensures printed quality conforms to customer specification, performs basic maintenance and repairs on press, and may assist in training employees and giving general direction to employees assigned to a specific press. Additionally, the 2nd Press Operator is responsible for providing performance feedback to Lead Press Operators and supervisors on corresponding crew members and prepares departmental reports.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge and Experience
* Must have a minimum of two years experience in the printing industry as Roll Tender.
* Understanding of Operations to carry out instructions.
* Familiarity with Safety Program, administration of policies and procedures, directing and dealing with employees, resolving work issues. Ability to evaluate the performance of the department and employees.
* Willingness to update skills on a regular basis to keep abreast of rapidly changing technology.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
* Highly publicized function that requires excellent verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills.
* Requires frequent interactions with employees, managers and vendors.
Problem Solving and Major Capabilities
* The problem solving aspect of this job alternates unexpectedly between problems on the printing processes, presses and problems as reported by employees at all levels. This position requires independent thinking and strong analytical skills, along with the ability to observe, recognize and resolve practical problems.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
* Finger dexterity is needed to access/retrieve information, troubleshoot problems and for use of hand-held tools.
* Physical requirements include hand coordination, bending, walking, climbing, and standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, pulling, pushing, and overhead reaching.
* Vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Check steam lines for cracks or cuts and verify o-rings are properly seated prior to hookup.
Preheat dies and punches using electricity or steam, and verify temperature accuracy for hot dies with a temperature stick or pyrometer.
Determine machine setup by reviewing work orders, tooling usage instructions, and die setup charts, making adjustments as required.
Load and secure dies into the press, checking for defects and torquing as necessary.

Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare for Operation - Check order documentation to prepare for make-ready operations. Make ready for production by setting up machine components to create products in line with customer specifications.
- Operate Sheeting Machine - Operate assigned equipment according to Company policies and standard operating procedures. Observe and monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are needed. Perform routine adjustments as needed to alter position, alignment, speed, or pressure.
- Perform Maintenance - Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of assigned equipment during shift.
- Perform Quality Checks - Complete quality checklist(s) and other paperwork according to established standard operating procedures and perform quality checks of product throughout to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Perform Line Clearance - Clean assigned area by removing all products from the line, trash, boxes, and other supplies associated with a completed order.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of the equipment platform.
- Solid Continuous Improvement background.
- Expertise in all technologies of Production equipment.
- Expert mechanical aptitude with experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of production equipment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated to lead, model, and direct leaders' and crew members' efforts to maintain schedule and deadlines.
- Must be able to read and follow directions and able to manage multiple tasks/projects.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
- Must be prompt and reliable and able to work overtime as required.
- Ability to organize, and manage people effectively.
- Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds continuously, and lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Previous manufacturing/warehouse experience is a plus but will train the right candidate.Β
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

What Youβll Do
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on digital press equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control issues
- Partner with OEM support and field engineers on complex repairs
- Handle installs, upgrades, rebuilds, and critical components
- Respond quickly to downtime tickets and production issues
- Maintain service records and parts inventory
- Follow all safety and lockout/tagout procedures
What You Bring
- 2+ years of experience servicing digital presses or similar industrial production equipment
- Manufacturer training or certification on HP Indigo systems
