Your Impact and Core Responsibilities

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable AI/ML Engineer to join our fast-moving team building impactful AI solutions in healthcare. Our work focuses on extracting and interpreting data from unstructured medical documents, improving clinical coding accuracy, streamlining administrative processes, and enhancing patient outreach.
Projects will evolve rapidly, from fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) on specialized medical PDFs, to optimizing OCR pipelines in Azure, and new challenges emerge regularly. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Design, fine-tune, and optimize large language models (LLMs) and multimodal models for healthcare-specific NLP tasks, such as information extraction, classification, and summarization from clinical documents (e.g., medical charts, patient files, scanned forms).
- Develop and improve document understanding pipelines, including fine-tuning OCR / layout-aware models (especially in cloud environments like Azure AI, Azure Foundry) to handle real-world variability in medical forms, handwriting, and scanned PDFs.
- Build and iterate on end-to-end ML solutions that transform unstructured healthcare data into structured, actionable insights
- Collaborate closely with clinicians, product managers, data annotators, and engineers to define problems, curate/annotate datasets, evaluate model performance against clinical and business metrics, and iterate quickly.
- Deploy models into production environments (cloud-based inference, batch processing, or API endpoints) with attention to latency, cost, scalability, and healthcare compliance considerations (HIPAA, data privacy).
- Stay current with advancements in LLMs, vision-language models, efficient fine-tuning techniques (LoRA/QLoRA, PEFT), RAG, multimodal AI, and domain-specific healthcare AI research.
- Contribute to a culture of rapid prototyping, rigorous evaluation, and continuous improvement in a dynamic project landscape where priorities can shift based on new opportunities or stakeholder needs.

The practice is owned by a board certified plastic surgeon who has performed thousands of cosmetic surgery procedures with impressive, natural-looking results and focuses on providing a uniquely concierge approach to their patients.
The winning candidate must:
- Be willing to work in a sleeves-rolled, hands-on fashion, doing "whatever it takes" to help the team grow.
- Focus on driving sales and results, coupled with a fervent desire to implement and sustain organization and efficiency throughout the practice. This is NOT an administrative position - it is a sales position with some admin work.
- Have a strong ability to build relationships as well as a desire to perform outreach with a positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
- Be able to work in a beautiful office (this is not a remote position).
Responsibilities:
- Sales -Β sell procedures, treatments and medical spa services ranging from several hundred dollars to over $30,000 to prospective patients through extensive phone conversations and live in-person consultations. 5 days per week will be focused on selling, through phone consultations, live & virtual consultations, email and phone follow-up and similar activities. 50-100+ outgoing and incoming email and phone efforts are commonplace in this role daily. The SICU team excels in managing patients with neurocritical conditions such as traumatic brain injuries (TBI), strokes, spinal cord injuries, and those recovering from complex surgeries and trauma.
- The Laguna Beach ICU is a 4-bed unit caring for moderate acuity patients with a wide variety of critical conditions.
- The Definitive Stepdown Unit (DSU) is a fast paced 15-bed critical care stepdown unit. The definitive stepdown unit treats all adult patients requiring close and frequent monitoring and specializes in CABG and TAVR patients.

We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Pain Management Physician (MD/DO) to join our Irvine team on a part-time basis, 3 days per week, with the potential to transition into a full-time role as our practice continues to expand. Responsibilities:
The position of Physician Assistant in the Department of Surgery, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the management and coordination of all inpatient care of surgical patients, primarily located at a new hospital in Irvine, California.
The surgical patients will include general surgery and specialty surgical services, on all levels of care., including the intensive care unit. Inpatient surgical services include colorectal surgery, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, hand surgery, minimally invasive surgery, plastic surgery, surgical oncology, thoracic, urology, vascular.
Duties will include consults and inpatient care and management. Duties include and not limited to evaluating care, ordering diagnostics and creating a treatment plan. The physician assistant will participate with inpatient sign out/hand-off at beginning and end of shift. The physician assistant will round and communicate with the surgery teams/residents/attending physicians. The physician assistant will be responsible of surgical consultations on potential surgical patients. The physician assistant will be involved in resuscitations of surgical patients from the ED and ICU. Responsibilities include coordination of procedures (including scheduling operations and other procedures, etc) and follow-up, admit and discharge patients (including admission H&P, orders, discharge summary, instructions, and medications) when appropriate. The physician assistant will triage phone calls from patients and nurses and be responsible for the reviewing critical labs, follow-up of results with patients and medical staff, obtaining comprehensive medical histories, performing initial and daily physical examinations/assessments, and exploring patient?s health needs in a trauma informed manner. The physician assistant will identify, treat, and manage hospitalized patients. The physician assistant should demonstrate an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. The physician assistant will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. In addition, the physician assistant will assist in the operating room, working closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal patient care throughout surgical procedures. Required:
- Practice agreements completed and on file in Department.
- Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
- HIPPA and other training completion as required by Medical Center Annual TB screening and any applicable test to meet JCAHO requirements
- Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
- Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.

- Must be a current, active, and unrestricted licensed Physician Assistant in the State of California.
- Active Board Certification from NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
- The PA must have a current DEA number from the US Drug Enforcement Administration
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
- Within six months of hire, ATLS certification.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, Power point and Outlook).
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese
- Familiarity with UC policies and procedures.
