The Water Resources Engineer position will be dedicated to supporting the departments' hydrology and stormwater quality review, analysis, modeling, and report writing. The Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering inputs integral to both small and large-scale hydro and dam projects. You will lead technical teams and mentor junior staff, support production, and coordinate delivery of engineering work products with multi-disciplinary project team members and external stakeholders. You will not only support and help grow the broader engineering team capabilities, but your particular focus will be on continuing the development of our hydropower capabilities and working with key staff in growing the business.

You’ll also be involved in supporting project management duties, coordinating with internal and external clients as well as assisting with guiding and mentoring other engineers within the team. In this role you will lead teams conducting technical work involving turbines, generators, and their associated ancillary systems, as well as other balance of plant systems such as gates, hoists, cranes, pumping systems, lubrication systems, and other critical equipment at hydroelectric powerplants. You will lead teams conducting technical work for feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out site visits and inspections. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a great team of engineers, technicians, scientists, and other industry-leading peers, and you will also interface directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems related to dams, control structures, water retaining structures, and hydroelectric generating stations.
• Execute multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects involving water resources, flood control, and hydroelectric sectors.
• Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and provide design and construction support.
• Mechanical engineering design and refurbishment of cranes, hoists, hydroelectric turbines, generators, and other balance of plant systems.
• Conduct feasibility studies for proposed designs and assess costs and benefits for alternatives in a systematic and thorough manner.
• Preparation and review of reports.
• Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensure that quality objectives, schedules, and budgets are met.
• Edit and prepare design specifications.
• Contribute to the development of the hydro-mechanical practice at KGS by assisting the US mechanical design lead by documenting technical knowledge, improving internal production processes, coordinating and developing internal training content, and other tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights should include:

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. A post-graduate degree would be an asset.
• Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
• Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington, Oregon, or California, as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in other states by comity through NCEES; or, if not already registered as a PE, would be able to obtain licensure within 1 year from date of hire.
• Previous consulting experience is preferred, but not required.

General Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to develop system-technology co-optimized solutions for the slowing Moore’s law era. The focus is on identifying and driving individual process technology components to achieve the best E2E system KPIs of AI and other emerging workloads scalable across different BUs. Multiple and varied individual technology components and their interactions across the system stack drive the E2E system KPIs. 

The E2E system KPIs for AI and emerging workloads include the power, performance and TCO of the entire system. A Contingent position that will work with Designers, Vehicle Performance, and Electronics Specialists to test, modify, and evolve hardware systems on race cars and track-focused road cars. Work to prove-out durability and performance to technical targets. Report and communicate on lessons-learned during the development process. Devise innovative tools and methods to test cars, subsystems, and parts. Document problem reports for failures in the field. Analyze data logged on cars, to trace down root causes. Track and manage resolution of vehicle hardware issues. Devise countermeasures. Work with designers and manage 3rd parties to implement design changes. Manage and execute testing of countermeasure parts. Manage and execute test and development of new vehicles, and vehicle hardware updates. Regularly liaise with 3rd party vendors, race teams, and test facilities. Specify instrumentation, perform data analysis, and write reports on the outcomes of development initiatives. Devise new and improved ways to test parts and systems, either in track driving tests, or in workshop rig tests. Work with designers, electronics groups, and suppliers to implement new testing equipment and methods.

BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience with 3-dimension CAD software modelling of race car components. At least 5 years of professional experience.  Strong analytical skills are required. Knowledge and hands-on experience with racing cars and related electronics and mechanical systems. Previous experience evaluating and implementing design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Previous experience coordinating activities related to project  development, scheduling, and resolution of engineering design and test issues. Extensive knowledge of racing car mechanical systems and structural elements Strong knowledge of engineering principles and theories. Knowledge of raw material specifications and codes. Strong Project Management skills.  Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment. Ability to accurately apply engineering theories to analysis of real-world data. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs of vehicle components

Physical Demands Requirements:

• Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist while working.
• Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees to work on close to the groundwork.
• Crawling.
• Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to work underneath suspended vehicles/engines/equipment to diagnosis problems and or remove replace parts.
• Standing for sustained periods during work or events.
• Sitting. Extensive travel and long travels.
• Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks (particularly walking long distances at the track to pit lane and around shop) 
• Lifting. Raising objects of 25 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
• Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while servicing / maintaining a race engine, vehicles and equipment.
• The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat and exposure to chemicals.
