What You Will Achieve

A Senior Associate Scientist (R2) position is available in the Upstream Process Development group within the Bioprocess R&D organization. The successful applicant will join a team of scientists and engineers focused on developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for recombinant proteins and other modalities for early- and late-phase human clinical trials. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for designing and executing laboratory experiments in bench-top bioreactors and associated scale-down equipment with the goal of developing robust, scalable, and high productivity processes. The work will also involve working with pilot, clinical, and commercial production facilities to ensure accurate technology transfer, successful large-scale production and associated regulatory filing activities. The candidate may also be involved in cutting edge technology development projects that seek to improve production processes and control strategies leveraging various process analytical technologies.


How You Will Achieve It

  • Design and execute experiments in appropriate scale-down models such as shake flasks and bioreactors in an effort to develop robust, high yield, and scalable manufacturing processes
  • Serve as upstream tech lead; ensure accurate tech transfer to pilot and GMP manufacturing facilities; provide technical support during manufacturing campaign
  • Timely and accurately document data in electronic lab notebooks; author technical reports and contribute to relevant sections of regulatory submissions such as IND and BLA
  • Participate and contribute to discussions in lab and project team meetings on design of experiments and interpretation of data
  • Contribute to safe, efficient, and harmonious lab environment; strong lab citizen and collaborative team player
  • Occasionally work over the weekend to passage flasks, sample bioreactors or perform other essential tasks


Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years’ industrial experience or Master’s degree with 0-3 years industrial experience in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology or a relevant field.
  • Significant experience with sophisticated lab instruments such as bioreactor systems and analytical equipment.
  • Strong mammalian cell culture expertise required.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and excellent attention to details.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.


Nice-To-Have

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $68,600.00 to $114,300.00. The Principal Product Engineer will learn the technical aspect of key product in the Andover, MA factory.  The Product Engineer will be product centric technical liaison, focused on driving collaboration across work centers and all disciplines to resolve technical issues, improve efficiencies and optimize overall product yield to ensure high-quality and cost-effective products and systems. You will utilize data analysis, CORE methodologies, and technical understanding to maximize overall product test yield, efficiency, and value.

What You Will Do

  • Address major yield and technical issues highlighted by tech leads and factory operation managers.

  • Perform data analysis and provide direction for overall product yield and performance improvement.

  • Facilitate collaboration across manufacturing work centers and design engineering.

  • Empower production test engineer to resolve complex failures through data driven troubleshooting technique.

  • Establish technical understanding of the product architecture, subassemblies, and test requirement.

  • Partner with test and design engineering team to develop sustaining solution to technical problems with root cause and corrective action identification.  

  • Requires direct support of manufacturing test activities and spending a large amount of time directly on the factory floor in support of a highly demanding dynamic environment.

Qualifications You Must Have  

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and typically a minimum 8 years of relevant experience

  • 4+ years in Production testing/troubleshooting

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Preferred majors: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering Technology

  • The ability to interpret and analyzer RF parametric data

  • Experience with lean principles in a manufacturing environment

  • Current DOD Secret Security Clearance

As a Senior Process Project Manager, the role will carry out responsibilities such as but not limited to leading and executing strategic capital investment and process improvement projects that enhance the design, performance, and reliability of our yogurt manufacturing operations. The role includes overseeing projects from concept through full implementation, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, plant operational needs, and product quality expectations. Responsibilities include driving process design, managing cross-functional project teams, supporting production and quality operations, and ensuring successful commissioning of new or upgraded yogurt processing systems. Additionally, the Senior Yogurt Process Project Manager will collaborate with other Lactalis USA Corporate team members, the Lactalis Group Corporate Engineering & Equipment Department, R&D, Quality, Finance, and Plant Engineering and Operations teams to align duties with the company's goals and values.

From your EXPERTISE to oursKey responsibilities for this position include:
  • Define project objectives, deliverables, and performance criteria to support strategic business goals within yogurt manufacturing and processing.
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to evaluate technical constraints, operational impacts, and cost-benefit considerations.
  • Partner with Key Stakeholders at Corporate and Plant level - including Production, Quality, Planning, R&D, Finance, Safety, Maintenance, and Engineering - to obtain buy-ins and to ensure that project designs meet business, operational, and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop complete project packages including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment layouts, scopes of work, cost estimates, timelines, ROI, and risk assessments required for capital project justification and submittal.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prequalify suppliers, engineering firms, and equipment vendors aligned with corporate standards and yogurt processing technology requirements.
  • Lead vendor negotiations to secure competitive quotations for capital assets, installation services, and engineering support.
  • Prepare comparative analyses and recommendations for purchasing decisions and capital investment approvals.
  • Lead end-to-end project management for yogurt process initiatives, from conceptual design through commissioning, ramp up, project closure, and handover.
  • Maintain and distribute comprehensive Project Schedules, identify critical paths, implement mitigation initiatives, and propose acceleration plans to ensure all projects are completed in accordance with the timelines in the Savings Plans and ROI calculations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate project review meetings, develop and distribute meeting minutes, and escalate issues or risks to key stakeholders as required.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning activities to ensure equipment performance aligns with specifications and project objectives.
  • Oversee installation, startup, and optimization of yogurt processing systems, resolving technical issues and ensuring seamless integration with existing operations.
  • Ensure all projects comply with corporate engineering standards, environmental regulations, food safety requirements, and applicable industry codes.
  • Promote continuous improvement and standardization of yogurt processing technologies across the global manufacturing network.
  • Travel to domestic and international manufacturing sites, vendor locations, and corporate offices as necessary to support project planning, execution, and commissioning.
