Director of Estimating – Utility-Scale Solar + BESS
Location: Norton, MA (Relocation assistance available)
Schedule:Full in-office workweek; limited field travel as needed
Compensation:$140,000 – $160,000 Base + Discretionary Bonus

Role Overview
Lead the estimating function for large utility-scale solar, BESS, and substation projects. Own department performance, estimating strategy, and the accuracy of all bids and proposals. Work directly with Preconstruction, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement to drive winning estimates and support project turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and grow the estimating team; ensure consistent, accurate, competitive estimates
- Oversee all takeoffs, bid packages, schedules, value engineering, and constructability reviews
- Review drawings/specs, identify risk, and align findings with senior leadership
- Manage client relationships and participate in procurement, budgeting, and scheduling efforts
- Lead bid strategy, vendor/subcontractor solicitation, and proposal development
- Support project handoff to construction teams and assist PMs during early project phases
Requirements
- Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years in estimating or preconstruction, including 5+ years in electrical utility leadership
- Strong understanding of electrical construction and large-scale commercial environments
- Ability to lead teams, drive results, and uphold high-quality estimating standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, Primavera, Bluebeam, and estimating software (MC2/ICE or similar)

Position Summary
The Contracts Manager oversees all contractual activities for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects from early development through project execution. This position ensures compliance with contract requirements, manages risk, and supports project teams in delivering high-quality projects on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in contract negotiation, risk mitigation, and familiarity with industry standards in renewable energy.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Drafting & Negotiation
- Prepare, review, and negotiate EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), O&M (Operations & Maintenance), supply agreements, and other project-related contracts.
- Partner with legal counsel to ensure alignment with laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain contract documentation, exhibits, and version control.
Risk Management
- Identify contractual risks at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce exposure and resolve disputes effectively.
Project Support
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and procurement teams to align contract terms with project timelines, budgets, and objectives.
- Track contract execution and ensure adherence to all terms and conditions.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the primary contact for clients, vendors, and subcontractors on contractual matters.
- Facilitate communication between internal teams and external stakeholders.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain organized, accurate records of all contracts and related correspondence.
- Provide regular updates on contract status, risks, obligations, and key deliverables.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Engineering, or a related field. JD or MBA preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in contract management, ideally within renewable energy or large-scale infrastructure.
- Demonstrated success negotiating complex EPC and supply agreements.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of construction law, commercial terms, and risk allocation principles.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Proficient with contract management platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with utility-scale solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
