Amazing opportunity to join Riverside’s Family After-School Program as a Child & Family Counselor!


Riverside’s Family After-School Program provides a structured, therapeutic after-school environment for children ages 6–12 in the Cambridge and Somerville communities who have experienced challenges such as neglect, homelessness, and trauma. The program offers clinically intensive, trauma-informed services that help children build coping skills, self-expression, and healthy peer relationships, while actively engaging families through regular events and collaboration.


As a Child & Family Counselor, you will work closely with program staff, family members, and collateral providers to support the emotional and behavioral well-being of the youth served in the program.


In this vital role, you will:




  • Plan, organize, and lead therapeutic groups and daily activities that promote social-emotional growth and skill-building.




  • Ensure children are safe, supported, and appropriately supervised at all times.




  • Implement behavior management strategies and participate in crisis intervention when needed.




  • Partner with clinical case managers on individual treatment plans and goal implementation.




  • Assist with transportation by driving and/or monitoring children as they arrive at and depart from the program using your personal vehicle or our program's transportation vehicle




Schedule: Part Time, 16 hours/week


This program is open during the following hours:



  • Summer: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • School Year: Monday through Friday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Pay Rate: $20.60/hourly

Young Adult Peer Mentor - Family After School Program

The Young Adult Peer Mentor will:

  • Collaborate closely with the clinical team and using lived experience as a positive model for individuals' served growth and recovery.




  • Provide transportation (pick-up and drop-off) from school to the program, from the program to their homes, and field trips




Schedule: Part Time 20 hours per week



  • School Year Hours: 2-6pm; Summer Hours: 1-5pm

Pay Rate: $21.63/hourly; $22.28/hour with Peer Specialist certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Instruction

To meet these requirements, you must enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during your employment with us if you do not have a degree in education. Uncommon Schools teachers are required to become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is between SALARIED at $50,000 to $64,700/YEAR. Most candidates who meet job description requirements will receive an offer of $50,000 - $54,100. Please note these figures are for FULL TIME HOURS; the pay will be adjusted to reflect PART TIME HOURS.

Starting pay is determined using various factors including but not limited to relevant professional development, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
