  • Under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, performs services which may include:ย

    • removing excess cement from surfaces of the teeth;ย

The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology, is seeking full-time general pediatricians to join our multidisciplinary care team at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital NICU as Clinical Associates with renewable terms of up to three years.
Appointees will provide neonatal services at one or more level II nurseries in the University of Chicago Medicine system. These positions do not require teaching or scholarly activity. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. These positions are benefits-eligible. Appointees will collaborate with a dynamic team of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, pediatric residents, nutritionists, and neonatal pharmacists, providing care under the supervision of the attending neonatologist. Responsibilities include daily patient care activities such as pre-rounding, presenting patients, order writing, addressing clinical problems, and communicating with parents and consultants. Following skills evaluation and, if necessary, additional training and support, appointees will perform standard neonatal procedures, attend high-risk deliveries, and perform neonatal resuscitations.
At our level II nurseries, appointees will attend deliveries, perform neonatal resuscitations, stabilize infants for transport, and manage infants whose acuity allows them to remain at their birth hospital.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a MD degree or equivalent, 2) have completed an ACGME-approved pediatric residency, 3) be board certified/eligible in general pediatrics, and 4) have or be eligible for permanent State of Illinois medical licensure.
We especially welcome applicants with experience equivalent to one year of post-graduate work in a Level II NICU or one of higher acuity.

Position description

The University and Jepson Herbaria at UC Berkeley seek an experienced phycologist to work in the Silva Center with the mission to develop, maintain and share documentation in the field of algal systematics.



The incumbent will be working as part of the International Bioeconomy Macroalgae Center (IBMC), funded by NSF and led by J.D. Coates, Professor of Microbiology at UC Berkeley. The work will focus on extracting and amplifying DNA from historic type and other herbarium specimens as part of our effort to understand the seaweed flora of California. The successful candidate will co-lead the development of cameras for the stereophotogrammetry of clouds, combining the camera data with the theory of physical processes and related numerical simulations to answer scientific questions about moist convective dynamics.



Assist with supervising and mentoring postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The Assistant Project Scientist will collaborate with David Romps' group to produce publications, as well as contribute to proposals and progress reports. Maintain the code base responsible for camera calibration, feature matching, stereo reconstruction, and volume filling. Develop new stereo-reconstruction algorithms to keep our program at the cutting edge of cloud photogrammetry.   • Sterilize instruments and maintain dental equipment to ensure patient and provider safety.



  • Take dental radiographs (x-rays) as requested by student providers or supervising faculty.



  • Accurately document patient information and procedures using our electronic health record system (e.g., axiUm).



  • Help maintain clinical supply inventory and assist with ordering/restocking as needed.

Minimum Qualifications




  • High school diploma or equivalent



  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program



  • Certification in dental radiography



  • CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)



  • 1-2 years of dental assisting experience, preferably in a clinical or academic setting


Preferred Qualifications




  • Experience working in a dental school or training environment



  • Familiarity with electronic dental record systems (e.g., axiUm, Dentrix)



  • Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) certification or equivalent

JOB SUMMARY

Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. Provide clinical leadership for other staff and assume relief charge duties when designated. Serve as a role model to promote a positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

PATIENT CARE - Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required

POLICIES - Work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies

CARE PLAN - Work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching

TESTS AND PROCEDURES - Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained

PARTICIPATION - Participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel

EMERGENCY MEASURES - Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients

MEDICAL RECORDS - Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information

INQUIRIES - Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy

MEDICATION - Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings

ENVIRONMENT - Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards

DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Nursing program (nationally accredited) graduate

CERTIFICATIONS:

RN MATRIX - Complete and maintain unit/clinic based required certifications and competencies as listed in the department expectations/and or the unit/clinic education matrix

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by State of New Mexico

CPR Certification for Healthcare/BLS Providers or for Professional Rescuers or must obtain within 30 calendar days of date of position

TESTING REQUIREMENTS:

Obtain UNMH IV Verification within 6 months of position

Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
