The ideal candidate for this position will be friendly, nurturing, kind, empathetic, fun, detailed, have strong communication skills, experience working with parents and teachers, and a desire to individualize the learning experience of each client. Additionally, the candidate should be computer literate and comfortable with technology, passionate about supporting struggling learners, and able to work well with others in the best support of our students. This is both a collaborative role as well as one requiring a high-level of autonomy (including scheduling sessions, keeping case notes, establishing session plans, having your β€œfinger on the pulse” of the students’ needs, and navigating the case management of the students as needed).

We work either in-office, in-home, at school, and at times, virtually with our students, and we ask that the applicant is able to work with us for at least one year, and ideally longer to provide students with stable, consistent support. If your short-term plans include a career change or move, you may not be the right fit for this role.

Requirements:

  • Ed Therapist Certification and/or MA in Special Education (in process considered) teaching/tutoring experience
  • Ability to drive to student’s home for in-home appointments
  • Familiarity with writing, math, and basic knowledge of middle/high school academics.
  • Ability to read assessment reports, formulate learning goals, manage a learning profile, document progress, and collaborate with allied professionals as needed.
  • Write progress reports and session notes
  • Have a warm, fun, engaging personality - ability to naturally establish rapport with students who may be a little bit resistant to support at first.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing assigned literacy programs, ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple initiatives. The Program Manager is focused on program-level strategy, resource allocation, and risk management, ensuring projects align with overall objectives and contribute to the program's success. This role oversees scheduling, staffing, volunteer coordination, and logistics for programs including 1:1 tutoring, correctional education, and English as Second Language classes. The Program Manager supervises a team of instructional and program staff and supports volunteers, ensuring each program runs smoothly and meets established goals.

This position reports to the Program Director. The ideal candidate is an organized, outstanding communicator, and experienced in both teaching and supervising others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of assigned literacy programs, including but not limited to: program calendars, facilitator and substitute schedules, classroom/site logistics, and supply coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for program sites and resolve any concerns as they arise.
  • Oversee, implement, and maintain quality of program delivery ensuring learners are supported in the learning environment
  • Oversee participant recruitment to ensure programs reach targeted audiences.
  • Support learner enrollment, intake, and progress tracking processes
  • Lead and coordinate special projects that support the growth and improvement of Read Muskegon's literacy programs
  • Supervise instructional and program support staff and support their professional development
  • Lead volunteer recruitment and ensure ongoing support of all volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement activities
  • Responsible for the design and delivery of volunteer training programs, manuals, and materials.
  • Document program data and outcomes to ensure alignment with goals and grant requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement through feedback, observations, and program assessments
  • Represent Read Muskegon at community events and partner meetings
  • Participate in intermittent evening and weekend programming

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in non-profit or educational leadership
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing projects
  • Teaching or instructional experience with youth or adults
  • Strong organizational leader with the ability to analyze and problem-solve
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in utilizing databases and reporting tools
