One of our major clients is currently seeking a sleep/loungwear technical designer for their new line for both mens and womens.

Role would be hybrid, they are headquartered in brooklyn and it would be around 20-30 hrs of work per week.


About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Designer to provide technical fit expertise across women’s and men’s sleepwear and accessories. This role will be responsible for establishing and maintaining garment fit standards, developing technical specifications, and ensuring consistency in construction and grading across core and seasonal styles.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge, strong vendor communication skills, and hands-on experience within fast-growing DTC apparel or home brands. This is a highly detail-oriented role focused on precision, fit integrity, and scalable size architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

Fit & Block Development

•Establish and maintain brand fit standards and core fit blocks across key silhouettes for women’s and men’s sleepwear and accessories.

•Play a key role in all fit rounds, leading technical evaluation and ensuring clear documentation of comments and revisions.

•Measure fit models and maintain detailed model measurement records for reference; periodically re-measure models to ensure calibration and accuracy of fit comments over time.

•Evaluate construction, balance, proportion, and garment performance during on-model and mannequin fittings.

Technical Specifications & Development

•Contribute to the completion of tech packs, including measurement specs, construction details, seam finishes, tolerances, and garment callouts.

•Measure all proto samples and fit garments to confirm adherence to approved specifications and tolerances.

Ensure all tech packs align with industry standards for garment specification and documentation.

•Review and approve graded specs to ensure proportional balance and brand fit standards are maintained.

Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration

•Partner closely with Design and Product Development to ensure technical feasibility while preserving design intent.

•Review proto and pre-production samples to confirm spec adherence and readiness for bulk production.

Key Responsibilities 

Product Development Process 

  • Manage all aspects of development from initial handoff through final SMS and pre-production approvals, ensuring timelines are met even in high-pressure situations. 
  • Ensure all styles meet Birdwell’s premium standards for fit, fabric, trim, and construction, balancing speed and quality. 
  • Maintain product integrity while solving for cost, feasibility, and production efficiency—proactively identifying and resolving obstacles.

  • Negotiate pricing and minimums with vendors to balance margin and quality expectations, using creative problem-solving to achieve optimal outcomes.

Calendar & Budget Management 

  • Own and maintain the development calendar; ensure timely approvals and handoffs to Production, even when facing competing demands. 
  • Partner with the VP of Operations on margin planning, target pricing, and vendor capacity, using data-driven problem-solving to optimize results. 
  • Maintain organized records of development status, sample flow, and cost changes for maximum efficiency. 

 

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of product development experience in premium men’s apparel, with a focus on woven shorts, woven pants, woven tops, sweaters, knits, and UV shirts. 
  • Proven expertise in developing high-quality, heritage men’s apparel. 
  • Experience with domestic apparel development, including sourcing and production with U.S.-based vendors and factories required. Experience working in the greater-Los Angeles area strongly preferred. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of garment construction, fit, and grading for the above categories. 
  • Familiarity with trims, finishing techniques, and materials used in high-quality, long-lasting men’s apparel.

About the Role:

-Work alongside Design in its day-to-day creative projects while maintaining its organization
