The Anatomy Lab Technician within the Department of Simulation Education collaborates with the Anatomy Lab Supervisor to support the day-to-day maintenance of the laboratories used for professional education of Creighton University learners and ensures that the lab is set up to offer a positive, effective learning experience. Responsibilities include care of human cadavers, the laboratories, teaching instruments, equipment, and supplies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Cadavers are preserved with formaldehyde, must be able to handle malodorous conditions. This position is very active and requires standing, lifting, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping, throughout the day. This position will also assist students and faculty with laboratory safety and will be present during scheduled laboratory meetings and practicals. This position also prepares cadavers prior to scheduled laboratory meetings and practicals as well as receive and return the cadavers from outside agencies.
This is a part-time position, working between 10-19 hours per week. Hours may vary and could include evenings.

Anatomy Lab Maintenance & Preparation
* Assists the Anatomy Lab Supervisor to ensure all aspects of the anatomy lab are prepared for the students and faculty needs.
* Assist with preparing cadavers for transport, cremation, and use in anatomy courses.
* Monitor dissection tables for drainage problems and cleanliness.
* Maintain inventory of dissection tools; clean/repair/replace as needed.
* Maintain inventory of expendable supplies and restock as necessary.
* Monitor sharps and biohazard containers and dispose of properly.

Experience:

Supervises students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training. Meets with and keeps supervisor informed of needs, activities, and problems within department. Responsible for all pertinent information documented properly on images ‐ name, date, technologist’s initials, position markers in view, and MSA readout. Perform routine quality control checks on any equipment that requires it. Perform other QC as required: phantom checks, compression checks, repeat analysis, etc. Be able to explain all procedures to patients. Practice radiation safety using the ALARA principle. Minimize the radiation exposure to the patient, yourself, co‐ workers, etc. always. Responsible for the care and safety of all patients in any radiologic area.
Respect patient modesty, comfort and privacy. Take proper medical history before all examinations, including checking patient’s lab values. Position patients so all desired anatomy will be demonstrated in the scan. Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients. Responsible for evaluating cross‐ sectional images to determine if they are of optimal quality for the radiologist. Demonstrate competency and confidence in starting IVs with the administration of contrast media. Practice radiation safety using the ALARA principle. Keep CT room neat, clean and stocked with linens, gloves, contrast media, and required supplies such as IV needles, syringes, etc. Properly clean CT table and sponges after each patient.
Inform radiology supervisor of any problems in the specialty departments. Bring to the attention of the radiologist any special concerns or problems of the patient. Follow protocols in dealing with patients with infectious diseases. Practice universal precautions and abide by OSHA regulations. Be able to handle stressful situations in dealing with very difficult patients with mental instability and/or various handicaps. Prepares contrast material for certain CT or MRI procedures. Get patients properly gowned for all exams, transports patients to related areas in hospital. Cleans equipment and room after every patient each day. Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
Other Duties:
Perform all functions of Radiologic Technologist job. Perform required number of exams as needed for MSQA, accreditations and certifications pertinent to specialty registration. Obtain proper continuing education requirements as needed for each specialty certification. Demonstrate a willingness to accept non‐ routine work assignments, as appropriate. 8. Processes CT exams utilizing the teleradiology system during off shift hours. Able to trouble shoot problems and contact correct help lines if necessary.
9. Demonstrates the ability to choose correct protocols for patients based on age and size.
10. Accurately completes computer (Meditech) patient procedure documentation. Assures the accuracy of documentation understanding that all items will be charged to the patient’s hospital bill. Submits correctly documented and labeled exam to the Radiologist and is available for review and discussion. Reviews each exam for technical accuracy.
11. Transports patients when needed.
12. Performs quality assurance in accordance with the American College of Radiology guidelines for CT.
13. Reviews post instructions to patient (example: hydration, when physician will receive results)
14. Demonstrates ability to trouble shoot any electronic equipment such as scanner, workstations, and printers.
15. Independently responds on a call basis to perform procedures. Drives to affiliate and/or contracted location to provide services as may be required.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent; graduate of an ARRT approved Radiological Technology School program is required.
- Registration and certification with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and licensure with the State of Connecticut are required.
- Must remain current with ARRT continuing education requirements and maintain an active ARRT certificate.
- Advanced certification from the ARRT in Computerized Tomography is expected from the incumbent within one year of hire.

Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Invasive Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary Technologist program, radiology, Respiratory therapy, paramedic; Surgical Tech (Certificate must be 1 yr. min program). 3 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
Additionally, 1 year of adult Cath lab diagnostic and interventional procedure in performing scrubbing, circulating and monitoring and recording duties.
RCIS or RCES or must be signed up for RCIS test within 18 months of employment and obtained within 2 years of employment. RCES for EP must be signed up for test within 30 months of employment and obtained within 3 years of employment.
ACLS (PALS is only required at Presbyterian Downtown) is required within the first 6 months.

• A Perfusionist is responsible for the delivery of patient care as needed during a surgical procedure.
• A Perfusionist maintains and operates cardiopulmonary pump, Cell Saver, auto transfuser and intra-aortic balloon pump during invasive cardiovascular procedures, and provides assistance to the physicians as needed.
• Operate life support equipment for the patient undergoing open-heart surgery, specifically the cardiopulmonary bypass machine ("pump").
• Set up and operate left and/or right heart bypass pumps.
• Set up and operate Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping system.
• Demonstrate full knowledge of the heparin, protamine, anticoagulation-titration analysis systems.
• Ability to serve in an advisory capacity to the surgeon responsible for ordering the administration of cardiac drugs.
• Set up and operate Auto transfusion (blood cell saver) equipment when required to support cardiovascular, orthopedic, vascular and other surgical procedures in which the auto transfusion system is required.
• Demonstrate understanding of and proficiency in patient management responsibilities including: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Cardiology, Surgical Techniques, Physiologic Monitoring, and Patient Care.
• Review basic histology and anatomy required to gain the best understanding of the patient's disease process.
• Assist in setting up and inserting the IABP in a variety of settings as required; OR, Cardiac Cath Lab, ICU or other areas.
• Ensure ordering off supplies and organizational activity needs.
• Ensure heart-lung machines are cleaned and in good working order per manufacturer's recommendations.
• Assist in providing required data for Quality and Infection Control as needed.

Education/Skills • Completion of an accredited perfusionist program required.
B.
Experience • 3 years of experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications • BLS required.
• Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion preferred.
