Internship – Strategic Sourcing
Position Overview
The Strategic Sourcing Intern will support the sourcing and procurement of high-value equipment—such as inverters, transformers, and other critical components—for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain management, data analytics, and contract negotiation within a fast‑growing sector of the energy industry.
The intern will work closely with the Strategic Sourcing team to analyze supplier data, support competitive bidding events, evaluate commercial proposals, and help optimize sourcing strategies. This internship is ideal for students interested in supply chain, engineering, business analytics, or renewable energy markets.
Primary Responsibilities
Supplier & Market Research
• Assist in identifying and evaluating potential suppliers for medium-voltage transformers, inverters, and other BESS components.
• Collect and analyze market intelligence, pricing trends, cost structures, and supplier capabilities.
Data Analytics & Reporting
• Develop dashboards and reports to support sourcing decisions using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or SQL.
• Analyze historical spend, lead times, and supplier performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities.
Sourcing Event Support
• Support Request For Proposal (RFP) development, distribution, and evaluation.
• Help compare commercial bids, summarize results, and develop recommendation packages.
Contract Negotiation & Support
• Assist in preparing negotiation strategy materials, including cost breakdowns, risk assessments, and supplier scorecards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, legal, finance, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment on sourcing requirements and project timelines.
• Help track open actions and stakeholder feedback for sourcing projects.

Reporting Structure:
• This position reports to the Senior Manager – Strategic Sourcing
- Pay Rate: $21-$25/HR
- Assist/Manage the merchandise sourcing & production of select product categories in partnership with the Sourcing Manager.
- Partner on vendor strategy, product costing/placement, manage vendor communication and production management related to designated product categories
- Responsible for ensuring products meet established standards for safety and quality including monitoring quarterly Product Review Requests (PRRs) with product integrity partners
- Manage Development Tracking Reports (DTRS), sample tracking and approval processes throughout each development season
- Manage the workflow for data entry task Supplier Set Ups, price changes, financial roadmaps, and invoicing, and all Product Lifecycle Management data entry
- Contact vendors to follow-up and verify the accuracy of provided data, resolve routine issues and ensure vendor alignment with company processes and procedures
- Follow up with vendor communication regarding any outstanding samples (Approval, PP/TOP, etc.)
- Liaise with vendors and ticket/label suppliers to ensure company guidelines are followed to avoid late deliveries and charge backs due to non-compliance
- Ensure all items are completed within PLM system to ensure on-time PO issuance
- Schedule and participate Production Handoff to the Responsible Sourcing and Production team at the end of each costing season
- Prepare standard any ad-hoc reports as requested (Time and Action Calendars, production timelines, status updates, etc.)
- Build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
- Attend weekly cross-functional meetings and quarterly product line review meetings to understand key sourcing issues and action items
- Communicate production status to global and regional partners during weekly cross-functional meetings as required
- 1+ years related experience, preferably in specialty retail or consumer products
- Associate degree or Technical Degree in Merchandising/Product Development/Design, Business or Supply Chain ideal
- Previous use in a Product lifecycle Management system a must.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Management, or similar discipline with a minimum 7 years of data architecture and solution development experience driving IT projects in consumer products, ecommerce, or similar related field.

- Hours of operation: Monday-Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm CST to overlap with USA operations; extended work hours depending on volume.
- On-call availability for resolving emergency issues from home.

The Role:
Works under the operations team and in coordination with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to oversee the entire flow of materials, from procurement and inventory control to receipt to storage and distribution. Ensure all materials meet defined specifications and are available for intended use and quantities to support user needs. Provide continuous improvement efforts in purchasing, planning, and warehousing. Key responsibilities include strategic sourcing, inventory optimization, demand forecasting, supplier negotiation, and managing logistics for clinical distribution while reducing waste and costs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop material strategies, forecasts demand, plans production and inspection schedules, and aligns material flow with business goals.
- Maintains optimal inventory levels, conducts physical counts, investigates discrepancies, and implements lean manufacturing principles.
- Supervises purchasing, inventory, and warehouse activities in a manner consistent with cGMPs.
- Assists Quality Assurance to assign and document the status for all materials used in the development of Vaxess products.
- Implements initiatives to reduce waste, cost efficiencies, and improve financial performance.
- Sources, negotiates, and purchases goods and services, building strong supplier relationships and ensuring quality and reliability.
Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years in Material Management or Shipping and Receiving in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device Industries working in a cGMP Environment.
- Strong understanding of supply chain, logistics, and inventory principles.
- Experience with ERP Systems/SAP preferred.
- Experience with standard cGMP storage requirements for Quarantine, Release and Rejected materials.
- Experience with the receipt, storage, distribution, and shipping of temperature-controlled materials.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Logistics, Biomedical Engineering or Health Care Management and certifications (APICS, ISM) preferred.
