Lab Technician 1 will be responsible for a variety of activities that support and provide technical assistance to Research and Development, Corporate Plants, and Corporate Quality Assurance. Perform routine testing on all Liquid and Solid samples provided to the lab from Plants, QA, and R&D, including company samples and competitor samples as provided by Marketing and Sales.

From your EXPERTISE to ours

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Perform all analytical tests to properly evaluate each product provided to the laboratory. Testing to include, but is not limited to Fat, Moisture, Calcium, Salt, Protein.
  • Sample and provide assistance to have samples tested, when required, at an outside lab for chemistry and microbiology. Provide all analytical data results to Lab Manager and or/Project Manager in an organized and clear format. Carry out daily, weekly and monthly cleaning of analytical equipment and laboratory area. Monitor chemical reagents and notify Lab Manager when supplies are running low.
  • Work closely with laboratory staff.
  • Provide technical assistance as needed for Aware of and practice Plant's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as well as Good Sanitation Practices (GSP).

  • The supervisor ensures maintenance supports production of high-quality food products. Leveraging team members to propose and execute work that assures compliance to specifications and increases consumer satisfaction.
  • The position keeps eye on cash flow per budget (MRO and labor), proposing capital projects where appropriate. Manage stockroom costs and best practices to site practices. Ensure critical spare parts and materials are available as needed.
  • The supervisor will support and propose new initiatives to reduce utility costs. This can include through improved efficiency and procurement practices.
  • The supervisor will pursue new technologies to improve operations on the processing lines, packaging lines and utilities equipment.

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

  • Requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Engineering degree preferred.
  • Food Industry experience desired
  • Packaging lines and dryer processing experience a plus
  • Requires intermediate computer skills. For example, using Microsoft Office, SAP, and AutoCAD to present all documents related to any projects.
  • Ability to work with clients, vendors, and other team members at all levels.

  • Individual must have interpersonal and team skills to function as a team member and leader.

From your PASSION to ours:

Summary: Responsible for a variety of tasks that requires knowledge and/or ability to learn both production equipment and major utility systems. Will work closely with a Class 3 Mechanic or mentor. This is a training/apprentice level. Ability to progress and desire to learn of high importance.


From your EXPERTISE to ours:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


1. PM's will be done on a daily basis.

2. Troubleshoot and repair production equipment in production operations, utilities, buildings & grounds, etc.

3. Maintains machines with respect to bearings, assembly, disassembly, power transmission, rigging, and lubrication.

4. Effectively completes bench work utilizing common hand tools.

5. Learns to do rudimentary pipefitting of water, steam, and air lines with steel, plastic, and copper pipe materials.

6. Performs routing preventative maintenance on designated equipment. Will assist upper class mechanic on major overhauls. Learns to identify potential issues and reports these to the necessary persons.

7. Attention to detail and accuracy in work required.

8. Clear communication abilities, written and verbal.

9. Knowledge of computer software helpful.

* Strong HVAC required.

* Previous food manufacturing experience preferred.

* Mechanical experience necessary, electrical abilities necessary.

* Stationary engineers/ammonia refrigeration experience preferred.

* Must have a valid driver's license.


Education and/or Experience:

* High School Diploma Required

* Trade School level of Electrical or Mechanical training preferred.

* Dairy Experience Preferred

* Basic mathematical skills are required (must be able to calculate averages)
