Lean Manager
Role Summary
The Lean Manager is responsible for driving operational excellence within the plant by deploying Lean manufacturing principles focused on fulfilling customer demand, eliminating waste, and enabling continuous improvement. This role partners closely with plant leadership to define and implement the Lean roadmap aligned with regional and global operational strategies.
The Lean Manager leads initiatives to improve production flow, optimize plant layouts, enhance material movement, and strengthen overall operational efficiency. This role also develops Lean capabilities within the organization by coaching teams, facilitating improvement workshops, and ensuring alignment with the MANN+HUMMEL Production System (MHPS).
Main Tasks
• Define and implement the plant Lean roadmap aligned with plant, regional, and global strategy.

Problem Solving Utilizes problems solving methodologies to determine root causes of problems and implement effective and sustainable solutions.
Participates as an essential member of the Corrective Action team.
Consistently uses the Corrective Action Request (CAR) process to address and solve issues.
Verifies effectiveness of problem resolution by monitoring production performance after solution implementation.

Summary of the position:
The Assembler position requires an individual to perform several duties as defined within the Assembly family.
This position is located at Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Value Stream Leader.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assemble compressors in assigned area using Work Center Instructions (WCI), Piping & Instrumentation instructions (P&I), Wiring Diagram (WD) and Bill of Material (BOM) and assembly drawings.
- Apply decals to machines, as needed.
- Utilize Andon signals per guidelines.
- Measure, cut, bend, fit small tubing to machine. Install tubing and fittings using hyferset.
- Install foam insulation on tubing and controls.
- Install heat trace tape to tubing and controls AND/OR bend large tubing with power bender per print or custom fit (Industrial).
- Assemble frames in assigned area, per BOM, or WCI.
- Assemble separator tanks in assigned area, using BOM, P&I or WCI.
- Assemble components to engines in assigned area, per BOM or WCI.
- Connect motor leads and connectors to power source per WD and BOM.
- Wire machines or packages, terminating wire harnesses or basic wiring in assigned area, per WD.
- Assemble couplings on engines/motors and air ends in assigned area, per WCI, BOM.
- Inspect finished machines at the end of process in assigned area, and receive them into finished goods.
- Align motor, air end and coupling in assigned area, using calipers, dial indicators and straight edge.
- Assemble and insulate enclosures and install on machine in assigned area, per BOM, WCI.

Our growing manufacturing client in Northern, NJ is seeking a Continuous Improvement Leader to drive operational excellence by uncovering, designing, and implementing improvement initiatives throughout manufacturing operations. This position is highly hands-on, partnering directly with shop-floor teams, supervisors, and site leadership to integrate Lean principles, reduce waste, and improve efficiency, quality, and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion and lead continuous improvement projects using Lean, Kaizen, and related methodologies.
- Collaborate with functional and department leaders to deploy process enhancements that improve throughput, lower costs, and elevate quality performance.
- Perform on-the-floor evaluations, including time studies, process observations, and root cause analysis to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Design and facilitate training on Lean tools such as 5S, standard work, value stream mapping, and visual controls.
- Measure, monitor, and communicate progress against key performance indicators to ensure improvements are quantifiable and sustainable.
- Foster a culture focused on teamwork, ownership, and ongoing improvement at all levels of the organization.
- Assist with the introduction of new equipment, automation, or technologies that support operational efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement, ideally within a industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Lean tools, Six Sigma concepts, and structured improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional improvement efforts that deliver measurable business results.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven hands-on approach with the ability to drive change directly within a production environment.

As the Manufacturing Manager, you will lead the charge in creating a work environment that prioritizes the safety of all employees. The Manufacturing Manager reports to the Plant Director and is responsible for managing the manufacturing process of multiple value streams. The manufacturing manager will have a combination of Value Stream Managers and Production Supervisors reporting directly to them. They are tasked with effectively utilizing materials, labor, and equipment to meet the business plan while ensuring a safe work environment.
The Manufacturing Manager oversees the total production of the facility, including safety records, production requirements, defect levels, waste, and work order attainment. This role is critical in ensuring efficient and effective production processes to meet customer demands while staying within established cost targets.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Leads efforts to achieve a “Zero and Beyond” culture, eliminate all injuries, and positions the plant as a good community partner through our Corporate Social Responsibly efforts.
- Achieves daily, weekly, monthly production targets at minimal cost, maximum efficiency, and maximum quality.
- Works with Quality control to enhance in process controls to minimize scrap and meet customer high quality standards.
- Drives continuous improvement through appropriate coaching, training, and process improvement.
- Champions, with Value Stream Managers and Supervisors, operator led process control, lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts and programs.
- Knowledge and application of Tier Communication and 6-S.
- Administers company policies and practices.
- Works with materials management to optimize load, to minimize downtime, bottlenecks, unfavorable material mix and to reduce raw material, WIP and FG inventories.
- Works with Engineering to enhance process improvement resulting in achieving productivity goal.
- Works with Maintenance to ensure preventative maintenance programs match production requirements and maximize equipment efficiencies.
- Champions manufacturing objectives and possesses Project Management skills through leading and facilitating projects.
- Experience facilitating organizational change with good oral and verbal communication skills throughout all levels of the organization.
- Uses Continuous Improvement tools to troubleshoot recurring issues and eliminate root cause process failures.
- Analyzes KPI’s to prepare charts/records and initiate remedial action.
- Manages labor and employee relations in accordance with corporate policies ensuring pay rates, promotions, demotions, and termination of employment are applied consistently and with due process and diligence.
- Reviews material/facility usage.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 7+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
- Proven success in leading cross-functional teams and driving operational improvements.
- Strong analytical, communication, and planning skills.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.

- Determine appropriate stocking strategies for each part (Plan for Every Part ‐ PFEP)
- Work PO Exception Messages in a timely fashion to ensure material is delivered to our requirements
