Fabrication/Construction/Manufacturing related company $50M in annual revenue is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a roll-up-your-sleeves environment and being directly involved in the financial operations of the business.

The Controller will manage the company’s accounting processes, maintain financial records, process payroll for approximately 50+ employees, and ensure accurate financial reporting. This individual will work closely with ownership and leadership to provide financial visibility into operations, costs, and profitability.

This is a working Controller role, not a delegator position. The organization currently has one accounting team member handling AP and AR, while the Controller will oversee the general ledger, payroll, financial reporting, and cost analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

• Oversee and maintain the company’s general ledger and day-to-day accounting activities
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
• Analyze financial results to ensure accuracy and provide insight into company performance
• Perform account reconciliations and support the monthly close process

Cost & Inventory Accounting

• Monitor and analyze cost accounting related to fabrication and production activities
• Track and evaluate material costs, and production expenses
• Partner with operations to understand job costs and ensure accurate cost allocation
• Provide visibility into cost vs. revenue performance

Payroll Administration

• Process and manage payroll for approximately 50+ employees
• Ensure payroll reporting is completed accurately and on time
• Maintain payroll records and related documentation
• Handle payroll compliance requirements within Texas regulations

Operational Support

• Work closely with ownership and operational leaders to support business decision-making
• Assist with budgeting and financial analysis as needed
• Maintain internal financial controls and ensure accurate recordkeeping

External Relationships

• Coordinate with the company’s external CPA firm, which will handle all tax filings and income tax compliance
• Provide financial documentation and reports as needed for external partners

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting experience, preferably within manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environments
• Strong background in cost accounting and inventory accounting
• Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements
• Payroll processing experience required
• Strong Excel skills and comfort working in a hands-on accounting environment

Position Responsibilities:

• Independently operate and adjust numerically controlled Tape Laminator machines according to established shop practices and procedures.

• Prepare for job setup by reviewing production orders, work orders (W/O), and setup documents, ensuring access to blueprints and drawings.

• Verify that the correct materials and tools are issued and free from visible defects before starting work.

• Identify the type of machine setup needed based on drawings and work orders, including flat tape laminating machines and automated fiber placement machines.

• Check machine setups and parts completed by previous operators to ensure safe working conditions and job progress.

• Prepare machines by obtaining materials from storage and performing necessary processes before operation, such as rolling tackifier and laying fiberglass.

• Use precision measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, to align and level the layup table as required.

• Retrieve and download CNC programs to the machine controller from the mainframe server.

• Set machine coordinates and adjust offsets, tool heights, and laser settings using the controller keyboard or pendant.

• Run the machine to lay graphite plies, copper ampe plies, and perform hand trimming and rework as necessary.

• Monitor machine operations for unusual vibrations or sounds, checking gauges and displays for warnings.

• Move finished parts and tools using appropriate material handling equipment as required.

• Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and using personal protective equipment.

• Perform quality checks after each operation to ensure parts meet specifications and are free from defects.

• Maintain personal and tool certifications, consulting with team leaders and supervisors on process or job-related issues as needed.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

• Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

• Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

THE ROLE YOU WILL PLAY:

The Electronics Specialist is responsible for solving problems not resolved by plant electricians. This includes working closely with electricians to resolve problems and requires mechanical knowledge of the equipment. This position reports directly to the Plant Engineering Manager.

• Program, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Programmable Logic Controllers utilizing PC and manufacturer’s programming software. Recognize and correct potential problems in programs on new equipment installs as well as streamline programs for maximum efficiency and safety.
• Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair process instrumentation and control equipment such as PID loop controllers, I/P and E/P converters, pressure transducers, and pneumatic actuators
