Position Summary

Essential Duties

Inspects, installs, connects, maintains, cleans, operates, tests, and repairs all appurtenances associated with the City's wastewater and storm water systems as they relate to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Maintains access to system manholes, taps, and pipelines.

Responds to complaints regarding illicit discharges, plugged sewers, flooding and odors. Assesses and evaluates situation, explains findings to leadworker or supervisor. Contacts business owners and residents in area where services may be interrupted and explains when repairs will be completed.

Maintains stormwater detention facilities, water quality ponds, and urban streams. Performs inspections, riparian area maintenance, vegetation and debris removal, channel management and bank stabilization.

Uses computerized television inspection equipment to analyze and rate facilities for consideration of needed future maintenance.

Incumbents may be assigned primary responsibility for the Vector Control Program. Responds to customer concerns and baits for rats in the sanitary sewer system, and addresses trapping needs for nutria, opossum, and other mammals in the surface water piping system and urban stream areas of Corvallis.

Responds to emergency calls, including after-hours response within required timeframe. Position may involve working overtime and on weekends as needed.

Maintains job-site safety for co-workers and the general public including traffic control and minimization of hazardous conditions.

Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment used in the wastewater and storm water systems.Identifies system needs and assists with planning and scheduling maintenance and repairs.

Maintains wastewater and storm water system operation and maintenance records and reports with the use of various computerized maintenance management systems. Maintains daily records and reports pertaining to activities, equipment and materials utilized, consistent with local, County, State and federal requirements.

Overview

Job Summary

Seasonal Parks Laborers perform general labor tasks as assigned to contribute to the development and maintenance of City public grounds and moorage facility.

Each Laborer works as part of a team to conduct routine maintenance and park development which includes cleaning restrooms, picnic shelters, and other City facilities as well as opening and closing parks daily, addressing customer concerns as they arise, collecting garbage, and picking up litter. Depending on the team of assignment, the Seasonal Laborers perform their work under supervision to maintain park landscaping, turf, sport fields, trees, boardwalks, buildings, equipment, and natural areas undergoing habitat restoration. Please note the specific tasks listed below.

All Laborers positions will operate vehicles, equipment, and a variety of hand and small power tools as required to complete their assigned tasks.

Essential Duties

  • Hand mows spaces not accessible by tractor-mowers.
  • Trims grass and cuts weeds with an edger or weed eater.
  • Raking leaves, spreading sand and soil, installing park benches and cleaning the docks.
  • Waters vegetation on City facility grounds.
  • Remove debris with mechanical blower.
  • Makes garbage runs at City facilities. This includes emptying garbage cans, picking up litter and debris.
  • Landscape installation to include planting, weeding and bed maintenance.

These techniques include the proper mixing, calculating and applying of a variety of approved herbicides according to product label directions and in accordance with the rules and regulations as set forth by Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and County regulations and policies governing the application of herbicides.

Vegetation management activities will also include the operation of mechanical harvesting equipment.

Operates powered and manual equipment relative to vegetation management such as airboats, all-terrain vehicles, midsize tractors, outboard motorboats, aquatic vegetation harvesters (e.g., Truxor® amphibious machine, Conver® harvester, tow boats) chemical spray trucks, backpack sprayers including transporting, loading, and offloading of equipment.

Fills sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, according to formulas.

Mixes herbicides and/or algaecides for application to vegetation or algae.

Connects hoses and nozzles selected according to terrain, distribution pattern requirements, types of infestations, and velocities.

Starts motors and engages machinery, such as sprayer agitators or pumps or portable spray equipment.
