Job Summary:
As a Machine Operator for H&S, you'll be setting up and operating Boring Mills, Lathes, Hobbing, and Grinding Machines to machine industrial gearing parts to specific tolerances. The operator is responsible for operating controls, setting offsets, editing programs, some deburring, and performing self-inspection of parts in-process and upon completion for conformance to requirements. The Operator will also use large overhead cranes and other large equipment.
Primary responsibilities:
- Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
- Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
- Calculate where to cut or bore.
- Shape steel, aluminum, titanium, plastic, silicon and other materials.
- Determine how fast or slow work piece is fed into machine.
- Determine how much material to remove.
- Select tools and materials for the job.
- Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
- Mark the work piece to show where cuts should be made.
- Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
- Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
- Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.
- Regulate temperature of work piece.
- Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.
- Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years' experience on CNC Horizontal Boring Mills, Lathes, and Grinders, and proficiency with large-part machining and blueprint reading; with the understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensioning.
- CNC programming experience a plus.
- Must be able to perform own setups, measure parts that consistently result in precision quality parts.
- Large overhead crane experience and move large work pieces.
- Must be able to edit G and M-codes, trouble shoot jobs and make adjustments as required.
- Strong shop mathematics (trigonometry) aptitude and the ability to use precision measuring instruments (calipers, mics and other gauges).
- Must have the ability to use a feed and speed chart or calculator to determine appropriate feeds, speeds, and depths of cut.
- Understanding of metal properties and appropriate cutting tools.
- Positive attitude required; dependable, self-starter and the willingness to help others.
- Ability to work in a large manufacturing environment and performs well with minimal supervision.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Engineering & Programming Technician works independently throughout the manufacturing plant to analyze, modify, and build control systems to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity of equipment and facility systems. Additionally, this individual may be called upon to assist in troubleshooting machine issues, to implement safety, quality, and productivity projects, and to introduce new products and processes. This individual will be responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities that are machine and process related that can be improved through the use of technology. They will need to coach and mentor others within the manufacturing plant in their areas of expertise. This position works with other technicians, tool room personnel, planners/schedulers, engineers, department managers, and operators during the analysis, build, and implementation phases of various projects. This individual will also work with the MES systems group to ensure that Pella control systems standards are applied and maintained.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will receive and triage tissue and cytology specimens and provide necessary support functions; assist with frozen sections, bone marrows and fine needles; provides clerical support and maintains equipment.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
1. Receives, accessions and labels specimens and corresponding paperwork, assuring proper identification and specimen integrity. Documents any problems utilizing proper protocol. Performs required computer and clerical functions for all surgical and cytology (as required) specimens. Assists pathologists or pathologist assistants with set-up functions, including printing cassettes. Prepares containers and cassettes for shipment to appropriate processing site, placing in appropriate transport coolers with accompanying paperwork and proper routing slip.
2. Assists with frozen sections by operating a cryostat utilizing correct settings, temperatures, alignments and knife angles to insure optimum sectioning. Accessions, processes, cuts and stains fresh samples for frozen section diagnosis. Places call to appropriate physicians so pathologist may give results. Properly stamps and records all specimens for Turn Around Time documentation process. Transfers tissue to the corresponding cassette and places in formalin for permanent processing. Handles frozen section permanent specimens as directed in #1.
3. Assists with autopsies by ensuring all required supplies (including restocking) are available in morgue. Reviews paperwork and documentation ensuring it is properly completed prior to autopsy. Accessions autopsy case and prepares cassettes and containers.
4. Assists with procedures as directed, i.e. fine needle aspirations, bone marrows, following site procedures and utilizing the skills required for accessioning, labeling and preparing for transport.
5. Provides clerical assistance to include triaging of phone calls to the appropriate pathologist or staff member. Effectively trouble shoots and appropriately documents all problems relating to specimens and Surgical Pathology procedures.
6. Maintains all equipment, staining protocols, slide and block filing systems, retained tissue specimens and other materials removed in surgery. Fills out all maintenance sheets on a routine basis as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months previous medical laboratory experience in specimen handling skills.
- Requires good communication, comprehension and typing skills.
- possess a significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the Pathology field.
- Evidence of increasing responsibility in personnel interaction and organizational skills required.

Use overhead cranes to load and unload parts and fixtures as required for the machining process.
Upload and download CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) programs to machine controllers using computing equipment from various servers or databases.
Select and check cutting tools according to program specifications, ensuring they are the correct type, length, diameter, and in good condition before installation.
Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including cutter offsets, tool heights, and probes, using appropriate measuring tools.
Run CNC programs to machine rough and precision cut parts, monitoring machine operations for unusual vibrations, sounds, or warning indicators.
Adjust machine settings (e.g., speeds and feeds) to correct machining issues or prepare the machine for subsequent operations, including head and spindle angles.
Troubleshoot and repair minor controller problems as required, and initiate requests for corrective action when machine malfunctions occur.
Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) functions as required to ensure quality standards are met.
Check completed work for defects and ensure parts meet drawing specifications, removing sharp edges with deburring tools as required.
Maintain personal and tool certifications and assist planners or programmers in determining final numerical control programs to optimize machine utilization and minimize setups.

Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

Basic Qualifications
2+ years of experience setting up and operating Manual and CNC machines
2+ years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators

2+ years of experience working with powered hand tools
