Blockchain Developer
🏢 Groma
Salary not disclosed
Boston, MA 6 days ago

Please note that this is a senior-level role and is full-time in-office in Boston, MA.

Groma is building the real estate coin, an on-chain asset that represents diversified ownership in a $100MM+ portfolio of buildings. We operate at the intersection of real estate and technology to unlock a new real estate asset class while making it easier for everyone, from institutional investors to the residents in our buildings, to participate in ownership. Our property technology platform uses AI and IoT to bring new efficiencies to the small unit count multifamily sector, enabling us to efficiently acquire, upgrade, and operate these 2-20 unit multifamily buildings and bring institutional performance to this massive but historically overlooked sector. Our investor technology platform makes owning these assets accessible to a broad array of investors, with bespoke vehicles available to institutional and family office investors and our flagship vehicle, the blockchain-powered Groma Real Estate Trust, available to everyone, with a special focus on enabling ownership for the residents in our buildings. Visit to learn more about us.

About the Role

This senior-level role will join a small team of software engineers that build the digital infrastructure and products that power the company. We're looking for someone that has hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining smart contracts in a production environment on EVM networks (Ethereum and Base), as well as experience working with a variety of token standards. Specific nice-to-haves include experience with RWAs/real estate, representing securities with compliance constraints on-chain (e.g. ERC-3643), and DeFi protocols like Uniswap.

While we're looking for an engineer with this background, please note that we also expect all engineers to be willing and able to contribute across our entire technology stack. The primary products that you'll be working on include:

  • Tools that are designed to make managing our large and growing real estate portfolio highly efficient. These are tools that we use to address the tactical challenges that arise from managing distributed real estate assets as efficiently as possible while still ensuring the best possible resident experience. We use many standard technology solutions, but also IoT smart home technology and AI to solve and optimize many of our resident and maintenance tasks.
  • Products that enable investors to initiate and manage their investments into Groma’s real estate funds. A primary goal of Groma is to make real estate work better for everyone. This means not only owning and managing it well, but also expanding ownership opportunities, with audiences ranging from institutional investors to the residents in our buildings.
  • Infrastructure to express Groma’s property assets, investor share holdings, and REIT operations on Ethereum and other networks. Blockchain is a powerful tool for us to increase transparency, investor access, and, over time, unlock new functionality to enable our holders to get the most possible value out of owning real estate.

The most important traits for someone joining the team will be:

  • Startup interest. We’re an early stage company and still have a lot left to figure out. There will be lots of ups and down, we don’t yet have all of the answers yet and you’ll be a part of finding them.
  • Product mindset. As a startup, we need to be fast to identify and solve problems across the business. We do not have a product team, so we expect engineers to be comfortable working directly with stakeholders throughout the business to understand their needs and build pragmatic solutions to them.
  • Technical breadth. As a small team, it’s highly valuable for each member to be able to operate across the entirety of our technology stack. This means being willing and able to work on backend and frontend development, our blockchain infrastructure, or occasionally even some spreadsheet hacking.
  • Desire to move fast. As an engineering team, we care about building reliable, secure, and easily-maintainable systems, but also recognize the need to move very quickly as we operate within a fast-moving startup. This means finding the right balance between quality and delivery speed.

The core technologies that the team uses are:

  • Languages: Python, TypeScript, Solidity
  • Frameworks: Django, React
  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud, Postgres, Ethereum

This is a role for someone that can quickly ramp up to execute independently and effectively across the range of technologies described above. You do not need to be an expert in everything mentioned, but should be very comfortable building web applications in Django or a comparable framework and at least interested in learning the rest.

About our Culture

At Groma, we’re looking to build something big and are on a fast growth trajectory. A healthy work-life balance is important to our team, but we also expect a high degree of commitment from every team member. We strive to respect individuals and their needs, while also acknowledging the reality that we have a small team that is trying to accomplish some very ambitious goals in a short period of time.

We are also focused on maintaining our dynamic in-office culture at Groma’s headquarters in beautiful downtown Boston, Massachusetts. We believe that in-person collaboration and spontaneous interpersonal interaction is critical to the company’s success at this stage. Also, our office is great! We own the whole building and have made it very much our own space - we’ve got a gym, locker rooms, a game room, a rooftop garden, and all the normal stuff to make an office an effective and fun place to be. We understand that everyone will occasionally need flexibility, but want to be explicit that this is a fully in-person role.

We have an ever-evolving list of values and conventions that guide how we operate as a company, but here are some of our core ones:

  • We approach our work with pragmatic idealism that enables us to focus on our desire to make the world a better place in ways big and small while also being open to intelligent compromises that accelerate us on our path to serve our broader societal goals.
  • Our whole team believes strongly that the challenges we are trying to solve require effective teams, not individual heroes.
  • We have complex conversations well. We sit at the intersection of housing and blockchain policy, both nuanced topics with real world impacts. We pride ourselves on being thoughtful, seeking the best solutions to real world challenges, and implementing them effectively in the real world.

Disclaimers

While we think that this role is an amazing opportunity for the right candidate, we also want to be upfront about some of the reasons that it might not be a fit for you:

  • You want to work in a partially or fully remote environment. We take great care to enable flexibility for team members, but our default will always be to be in office together.
  • You just want to write code and are less interested in learning about the business. We expect engineers to spend lots of time with stakeholders figuring out what the right problems are to solve (i.e. doing "product" work), then building the solutions to them.
  • Job titles are important to you or you're looking for a quick pathway into engineering management. We're a small, flat organization and intend to keep it that way for the foreseeable future. That said, there are many other types of leadership opportunities available.
  • You want a highly predictable job. We're a startup and there have been and will continue to be lots of twists and turns in our story - we change direction quickly and throw a lot of things against the wall to see what sticks.
  • You don't want to use AI. While there are tradeoffs that must be managed, we believe that AI-powered coding tools will transform the software engineering profession and are a powerful accelerant.

Job Benefits

  • Competitive salary and bonus for the Boston area
  • Early stage equity
  • 5% 401k match
  • 100% employer-paid premiums for high-quality health, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Fully covered commuter passes for bus, subway, boat, or commuter rail
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 13 official company holidays
  • 1 floating holiday: We recognize that there are lots of holidays that are meaningful to different people in different ways and we want to celebrate that by enabling team members to have the time/space to commemorate those days however is appropriate, and using it as an opportunity - if they’d like to - to share the meaning of that day with the broader team
  • A beautiful office in downtown Boston with a gym, locker rooms, game room, rooftop garden, and at least one catered lunch and breakfast per week

Strategy and Technology, Director

Salary not disclosed
*The Role*

We are looking for a Senior IT Consultant who is as comfortable resetting a misconfigured MDM profile as they are sitting across a conference table from a COO, walking them through why their staff keeps clicking phishing links and what to actually do about it.

This is not a help desk role. This is not a break-fix role. This is a relationship role, supported by deep technical expertise. The right person understands that in our world, the hardest problems are rarely technical. They are behavioral, organizational, and cultural. The technology is almost always the easy part.

You will be assigned to a dedicated set of clients and will function as their trusted IT lead embedded, proactive, and accountable. You will collaborate closely with our founder and existing team on standards, tooling, and service delivery.

*What Youll Do*

* Serve as the primary IT point of contact for a portfolio of 36 client organizations, building genuine relationships with leadership, operations staff, and end users alike.
* Conduct regular on-site and remote engagements not just for break-fix, but for strategic check-ins, technology reviews, and training sessions that actually change behavior. This does include flight travel 3-4 times a year.
* Design and manage security programs including endpoint protection, email security, phishing simulation, and security awareness training with the understanding that the goal is culture change, not checkbox compliance.
* Own the Apple ecosystem: device enrollment, MDM (Jamf/Mosyle), fleet management, onboarding/offboarding workflows, and OS lifecycle planning.
* Lead vendor management evaluating, procuring, and managing SaaS tools, ISPs, hardware, and third-party services on behalf of clients.
* Support data retention, compliance, and policy development for clients in regulated or grant-funded environments.
* Deliver executive-ready communication: clear, non-technical summaries of technical issues, risks, and recommendations for C-suite and board audiences.
* Collaborate with Stiqibits team on internal playbooks, documentation, and service improvement.

*What Were Looking For*

*Required*

* 5+ years of IT experience, with meaningful time spent in a client-facing MSP, consulting, or embedded IT role.
* Deep hands-on experience with the Apple ecosystem macOS, iOS, MDM, and the tools that support them.
* Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships at the executive level with professionalism, empathy, and confidence.
* A track record of driving technology adoption and behavioral change in organizations that are not naturally tech-forward.
* Solid grounding in cybersecurity fundamentals: endpoint management, identity and access, email security, phishing mitigation, and security training programs.
* Excellent written and verbal communication you can explain anything to anyone without condescension.
* Self-direction and professional maturity: you manage your own schedule, own your commitments, and flag issues early.

*Preferred*

* Direct MSP or multi-client IT experience, including client onboarding, tiered support delivery, and documentation practices.
* Experience supporting nonprofits, philanthropic organizations, or impact-driven institutions or a genuine affinity for working with mission-driven teams.
* Familiarity with compliance and data retention requirements common to foundation or grant-funded environments (GDPR, CCPA, donor data governance).
* Experience with tools such as Jamf, Mosyle, Microsoft 365, Entre, Google Workspace, Okta, Meraki, Egnyte, Atlassian Jira, Hudu, or similar enterprise platforms.
* Relevant certifications: Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP), CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar.
* Prior experience in or strong cultural understanding of the philanthropic or civic technology sector.

*The Mindset We Value*

We hire for judgment, not just skill. A few things we hold deeply:

* *White-glove is a standard, not an upsell. *White-glove is a standard, not an upsell.

Our clients chose us because they want a partner, not a vendor. Every interaction a password reset or a board presentation reflects that.

* *Technology is a means, not an end. *Technology is a means, not an end.

We measure success by whether people are more effective, more secure, and more confident using technology. Shiny tools mean nothing if they dont stick.

* *The human problem is the real problem. *The human problem is the real problem.

If a clients staff keeps making the same mistakes, the answer is rarely a new tool. Its better communication, better training, and earning enough trust that people actually follow the guidance. Thats the work.

* *Ownership without ego. *Ownership without ego.

You take full responsibility for your clients' experience. You also know when to ask for help, escalate, or collaborate. Both matter equally here.

*Location & Logistics*

We are open to candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Washington D.C./Metro area, New York/Metro area, Paris, or London. Some travel to client sites is expected. Remote-first with regular on-site presence for client engagements.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. We offer a collaborative, intentional culture and the satisfaction of doing genuinely meaningful work for organizations that are trying to make the world better.

Pay: $135,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year

Benefits:
* 401(k)
* Dental insurance
* Health insurance
* Health savings account
* Paid time off
* Vision insurance

Senior Developer — AI Evaluation & Cloud Infrastructure
✦ New
Salary not disclosed
Boston, MA 6 hours ago

Senior Developer, AI Evaluation & Cloud Infrastructure | Just Horizons Alliance

Join us to build the technical foundation for AI accountability.

The Role

Just Horizons Alliance is an 18-year-old applied research lab focused on ethics and technology. Our current focus is the AI Ethics Index, a measurement framework for evaluating AI systems on ethics, safety, and societal impact.

We need a senior engineer to own the technical infrastructure end-to-end: learn what exists, close critical gaps, and build something that lasts.

The evaluation methodology is validated and in use. We're now at the stage where the systems need to mature alongside the research. This is the first dedicated infrastructure hire for this work, and you'll shape how it scales.

What You’ll Do

Months 1–3: Learn the System

Map the current architecture with Sophia Zitman (AIEI Team Lead). Understand the evaluation methodology, the data flows, and the infrastructure that supports them. Identify what needs to evolve for multi-domain benchmarking—reproducibility, security posture, test coverage, deployment pipeline. Begin implementing the highest-priority improvements.

Months 4–6: Build for Scale

Architect the infrastructure to support the next phase of the Index. CI/CD that maintains stability as the system grows. IAM and secret management built for a production environment. Experiment tracking that makes every evaluation run auditable. Documentation that enables the research team to work independently.

Months 7–12: Expand

Multi-domain benchmarking across education, healthcare, finance, and other sectors. Reproducibility standards that meet external scientific scrutiny. A system the research team can extend without engineering support for every change. At this point, the infrastructure should be stable enough that you're focused on capability, not maintenance.

Why This Role Is Difficult

This is infrastructure for a scientific standard, not a product feature.

Correctness and delivery both matter. A bug in the evaluation engine doesn't break a feature, instead it invalidates a measurement. A flawed pipeline doesn't slow things down, it compromises the credibility of the research. At the same time, methodology that never runs in production has no impact. The role requires both rigor and momentum.

You're translating between disciplines. Your stakeholders are researchers, ethicists, and governance specialists. You'll need to take concepts like "operationalizing an ethical construct" and turn them into data models and pipelines. This is a translation problem as much as an engineering problem.

The work is novel. There's no existing system to reference. The AI Ethics Index is defining what rigorous AI evaluation looks like. You'll be making architectural decisions in areas where best practices don't yet exist.

You'll have full ownership. This is not a role where you're executing someone else's technical vision. You're setting the direction. That means autonomy, but it also means accountability.

You're probably the right person if

You've built evaluation systems or data pipelines that other people depended on for correctness, not just uptime

You're comfortable with GCP and have deployed containerized workloads in a real production context

You've worked with LLM APIs and understand their reliability and reproducibility characteristics

You can read a paper about measurement methodology and turn it into a working data structure

You build for durability. Your code is still running 18 months later because you thought about the next person

You've worked somewhere between 5 and 50 people and you're comfortable being the person who figures things out without a playbook

You find working on AI ethics infrastructure more interesting than building another e-commerce checkout flow

You're probably not the right fit if

Enterprise environments make up most of your experience. This is not a large-team context

You need clearly defined requirements before you can start. The requirements here evolve through conversation with ethicists

You're based on the West Coast US or expect West Coast US working hours

You mainly build user-facing APIs and features — this is systems and infrastructure work

You're looking for a high-growth startup where shipping speed is everything. This is a scientific organization. Correctness is everything.

Hard Skills

These are the technical capabilities you need going in — or need to be able to build up fast using an AI coding agent. We're not looking for someone who ticks every box. We're looking for someone who closes gaps quickly and knows how to learn.

  • Python — strong enough to design systems architecture and reason about failure modes, even if you work with AI assistance for implementation details
  • Google Cloud Platform — specifically Cloud Run, IAM design, secret management, and containerized workload deployment in a real production context
  • API and model documentation — able to read, write, and navigate API specs and model documentation fluently; you know how to figure out how a system behaves from its documentation without needing someone to walk you through it
  • Structured step-by-step reasoning — when you hit a complex problem, you decompose it immediately and visibly into logical steps; you don't disappear into your head and come back with an answer, you think out loud and in sequence, which makes collaboration with the ethics and research team possible
  • LLM API integration — understanding the reliability, reproducibility, and failure characteristics of external model endpoints
  • Data pipeline architecture — building evaluation or measurement systems where correctness is non-negotiable, not just data-moving
  • Experiment tracking and reproducibility standards — always looking to improve the evaluation pipeline; you understand what needs to be tracked, why reproducibility matters scientifically, and you find the right approach for the context without being dogmatic about tooling
  • Statistical reliability concepts — enough to understand what inter-rater reliability means for evaluation output and why reproducibility matters scientifically

What you get

The role: You'll work directly with Sophia Zitman (AIEI Team Lead) as the technical backbone of the AI Ethics Index. Full engineering ownership of the evaluation engine.

The comp: Base salary $110,000.

The team: Small, split between ethicists and engineers. You will interview with Janet Kang (Executive Director) and Sophia Zitman (AIEI Team Lead).

The environment: Boston-based non-profit (501(c)(3)). East Coast US or Western Europe time zones. Collaborative but autonomous — Sophia won't micromanage, but she will hold you to a high standard of systems thinking.

The upside: You'll have built the technical foundation of what may become the globally referenced standard for AI system evaluation. That's a meaningful line on any CV — and a genuinely hard thing to have done.
